This paper proposes a novel pattern recognition approach based on the radial basis function (RBF) neural network for identifying insulation defects of high-voltage electrical apparatus arising from partial discharge (PD). Pattern recognition of PD is used for identifying defects causing the PD, such as internal discharge, external discharge, corona, etc. This information is vital for estimating the harmfulness of the discharge in the insulation. Since an insulation defect, such as one resulting from PD, would have a corresponding particular pattern, pattern recognition of PD is significant means to discriminate insulation conditions of high-voltage electrical apparatus. To verify the proposed approach, experiments were conducted to demonstrate the field-test PD pattern recognition of cast resin current transformer (CRCT) models. These tests used artificial defects created in order to produce the common PD activities of CRCTs by using feature vectors of field-test PD patterns. The significant features are extracted by using nonlinear principal component analysis (NLPCA) method. The experimental data are found to be in close agreement with the recognized data. The test results show that the proposed approach is efficient and reliable.
Garment design needs an iterative manipulation of 2D patterns to generate a final sloper. Traditionally there have been two kinds of design methodologies such as the flat pattern method and the pattern draping method. But today, it is possible to combine the advantages from the two methods due to the realistic cloth simulation techniques. We devised a new garment design system which starts from 3D initial drape simulation result and then modifies the garment by editing the 2D flat patterns synchronously. With this interactive methodology using real-time pattern deformation technique, the designer can freely change a pattern shape by watching its 3D outlook in real-time. Also the final garment data were given relative coordinates with respect to the human anthropometric feature points detected by an automatic body feature detection algorithm. Using the relative human body coordinate system, the final garments can be re-used to an arbitrary body data without repositioning in the drape simulation. A female shirt was used for an example and a 3D body scan data was used for an illustration of the feature point detection algorithm.
These days, printed electronics attract attention from electronics industry. In this paper, the fabrication of the fine patterns by Near Field Electro Spinning (NFES) was studied by using Ag ink on silicon wafer (substrate). Two types of ink, the high viscous ink Ag-200 and low viscous ink Ag-15, were used. The fine and uniform patterns were easily fabricated by using Ag-200 because jet breakup is less occurred in high viscosity solution. As increasing flow rate of solution, aspect ratio of Ag pattern decreased. And there was optimum applied voltage for fine pattern. In case of Ag-200, the optimum applied voltage was about 2.02KV. When pattern was fabricated by NFES, the pattern width and height were affected by many factors such as viscosity, flow rate of solution, applied voltage etc.
Laser surface dimple patterning is a method of laser surface texturing to reduce lubrication sliding friction. The dimple pattern improves friction properties by reserving lubricant and trapping worn particles. This surface texturing technology can reduce coefficients of friction and extend the service life by applying a uniform load to the surface of the material. This study investigates the friction properties using PMMA, a highly compatible polymer material, as a specimen. We observe the friction properties of untextured specimens by processing specimens with dimple pattern densities of 5 and 10 on the surface area using laser. Dimple pattern density affects the coefficient of friction. We present the following friction property results using a pin-on-disc sliding friction test under saline lubrication. The coefficients of friction for the dimple patterned specimens are lower than those for the untextured specimens. As the normal load and sliding speed increase, the coefficients of friction of the dimple pattern specimens decrease differently from those of the untextured specimens. The specimen with a dimple pattern density of 5 at a normal load of 24.5 N and a sliding speed of 0.22 m/s has the best friction properties. Notably, different friction properties are exhibited depending on the dimple pattern densities.
This study seeks to increase the satisfaction of elderly men when purchasing and wearing ready-to-wear clothes by designing a slacks pattern suitable for their body type, which is determined by analyzing their lower bodies using virtual avatars and 3D virtual simulation system. The study found the following. First, based on virtual visualization of the comparison slacks pattern, the waistline position was consistently the lowest scored question among the evaluation survey items. Interpretation of this dissatisfaction suggests that, because the front waistline falls below the abdomen, the lower body, and especially the abdominal shape, is unpleasantly emphasized. Second, by using a virtual simulation system, the study developed a new slacks pattern that considered the concerns of elderly men. The primary measurement changes were as follows: front waist girth W/4+1.5cm+0.5cm, back waist girth W/4+1.5cm-0.5cm, front hip girth H/4+2.5cm-0.5cm, back hip girth H/4+2.5cm+0.5cm. Third, the new slacks pattern's appearance was evaluated more highly than the comparison pattern, confirming the new pattern's appropriateness for elderly men. This study demonstrates how slacks and other clothing patterns designed in a 3D virtual garment simulator can be used to design more appealing clothing for elderly men, increasing the satisfaction of wearing ready-made clothes at older ages.

This paper presents a fast massively parallel automatic test pattern generator for digital combinational logic circuits using neural networks. Automatic test pattern generation neural network(ATPGNN) evolves its state to a stable local minima by exchanging messages among neural network modules. In preprocessing phase, we calculate the essential assignments for the stuck-at faults in fault list by adopting dominator concept. It makes more neurons be fixed and the system speed up. Consequently. fast test pattern generation is achieved. Test patterns for stuck-open faults are generated through getting initialization patterns for the obtained stuck-at faults in the corresponding ATPGNN.
A new pattern classification algorithm using cepstrum to analyze lung sounds for the classification of pattern with pulmonary and bronchial disorders is proposed. To evaluate the perfomance of the proposed method, the results are compared to the pattern classification with the AR modeling method. In the experiment lung sounds recorded for the training of physician used. As a results, the accuracy of the cepstrum classification is 92.3 % and AR modeling is the 53.8 %, therefore cepstrum modeling method has very high performance than AR and it turned out to be a very efficient algorithm.

The aroma pattern was analyzed using electronic nose to examine the possibility of origin discrimination according to the mixing ratio of Chinese and Korean red ginseng concentrates. The origin of Chinese red ginseng concentrate and Korea red ginseng concentrate could be distinguished and the pattern of aroma component detected decreased as the mixing ratio of Chinese red ginseng concentrate increased. Cultivar and habitat of Korean red ginseng concentrated was remarkably distinguished by the chromatogram of frequency pattern, derivative pattern and visual pattern using olfactory images known as vapor printTM.

Tire noise is divided into two parts. One is pattern noise the other one is road noise. Pattern noise primarily occurs in over 500 Hz frequency but road noise occurs mainly in low frequency. It is important to develop a technology to predict the pattern noise at the design stage. Prediction technology of pattern noise has been developed by using image processing. Shape of tire pattern is computed by using imaging signal processing. Its results are different with the measured one. Therefore, the prediction of actual measured pattern noise is valuable. In the signal processing theory is applied to calculate the impulse response for the measurement environment. This impulse response used for the prediction of pattern noise by convolving this impulse response by the results of image processing of tire pattern.
This study examined how to create 2D basic pattern of individuals by means of 3-D body figure, which is to develop a flat of individual basic pattern directly from the 3-D body scan data of each subject using that of the upper body of a male adult. In terms of methodology, this study adopted 3D body scan data on system and body to make examinations in the following steps: 1. Standard point and line were set on human body, along with 3-D definition points(feature points). 2. PB was created by modifying horizontal and longitudinal section of scan data. 3. Ways to set reserve were established in the findings of PB planar development. Respective developed flat patterns were compared with pattern findings in previous studies by means of sensory evaluation. As a result, it was found that both system and body model are basic pattern and belong to appropriate pattern as semi-tight-fit basic pattern with overall appropriate tolerances. Thus, this study came to a conclusion that it is feasible and valid to develop theories for flat development as considered herein.
