  • One significant challenge that arises in social tagging systems is the rapid increase in the number and diversity of the tags. As opposed to structured annotation systems, tags provide users an unstructured, open-ended mechanism to annotate and organize web-content. In this paper, we propose a scheme for URL recommendation that is based on a folksonomy which is comprised of user-defined tags, URL-keywords and the category folder name as the major element. This scheme will be further improved and implemented on a browser extension that recommends to users the best way to classify a particular URL.

  • XML as a standard for representing data and document structure is widely used in every area, and we have to write XML compilers which process the XML documents according to a user's intention. Because it takes time and costs to write XML compilers by hand, we need some generators that automatically generate XML compilers. In this paper, we introduce an XML compiler generator named XCC. It reads DTD and semantic rules, and it generates XML compiler and Java classes which correspond to the elements defined in the DTD.

  • Based on the random cracking theory, the cylinder RVE model of reinforced concrete is established and the damage process is divided into three stages as the evolution of the cracks. The stress distribution along longitude direction of the concrete and the steel bar in the cylinder model are derived. The equivalent elastic modulus of the RVE are derived and the user-defined field variable subroutine (USDFLD) for the equivalent elastic modulus is well integrated into the ABAQUS. Regarding the tensile rebars and the concrete surrounding the rebars as the equivalent homogeneous transversely isotropic material, and the FEM analysis for the reinforced concrete beams is conducted with the USDFLD subroutine. Considering the concrete cracking and interfacial debonding, the macroscopic damage process of the reinforced concrete beam under four-point bending loading in the simulation. The volume fraction of rebar and the cracking degree are mainly discussed to reveal their influence on the macro-performance and they are calibrated with experimental results. Comparing with the bending experiment performed with 8 reinforced concrete beams, the bending stiffness of the second stage and the ultimate load simulated are in good agreement with the experimental values, which verifies the effectiveness and the accuracy of the improved finite element method for reinforced concrete beam.

  • The shape-based retrieval is defined as the operation that searches for the (sub) sequences whose shapes are similar to that of a query sequence regardless of their actual element values. In this paper, we propose a similarity model suitable for shape-based retrieval and present an indexing method for supporting the similarity model. The proposed similarity model enables to retrieve similar shapes accurately by providing the combination of various shape-preserving transformations such as normalization, moving average, and time warping. Our indexing method stores every distinct subsequence concisely into the disk-based suffix tree for efficient and adaptive query processing. We allow the user to dynamically choose a similarity model suitable for a given application. More specifically, we allow the user to determine the parameter p of the distance function $L_p$ when submitting a query. The result of extensive experiments revealed that our approach not only successfully finds the subsequences whose shapes are similar to a query shape but also significantly outperforms the sequence search.

  • Although the evaluation of the mechanical properties and behavior of discontinuous rock masses is very important for the design of underground openings, it has always been considered the most difficult problem. One of the difficulties in describing the rock mass behavior is assigning the appropriate constitutive model. This limitation may be overcome with the progress in discrete element software such as PFC, which does not need the user to prescribe a constitutive model for rock mass. Instead, the micro-scale properties of the intact rock and joints are defined and the macro-scale response results from those properties and the geometry of the problem. In this paper, a $30m{\times}30m{\times}30m$ jointed rock mass of road tunnel site was analyzed. A discrete fracture network was developed from the joint geometry obtained from core logging and surface survey. Using the discontinuities geometry from the DFN model, PFC simulations were carried out, starting with the intact rock and systematically adding the joints and the stress-strain response was recorded for each case. With the stress-strain response curves, the mechanical properties of discontinuous rock masses were determined and compared to the results of empirical methods such as RMR, Q and GSI. The values of Young's modulus, Poisson's ratio and peak strength are almost similar from PFC model and Empirical methods. As expected, the presence of joints had a pronounced effect on mechanical properties of the rock mass. More importantly, the mechanical response of the PFC model was not determined by a user specified constitutive model.

  • Skin friction of prebored and precast pile may be one of the most critical factors affecting the bearing capacity and settlement. Special attention was given to the interface behavior of pile-cement milk-surrounding soil when the load is acting on the prebored and precast pile. The cases of single pile were analyzed through a three-dimensional finite element approach and pile loading tests. A series of numerical analyses of the interface of pile-cement milk-soil was conducted with the proposed t-z curve and field measurements. It is shown that the use of cement milk around the pile increases the skin friction and reduces the pile settlement. It is also known that the suggested t-z curve between the cement milk and the soil, enhances the accuracy of the numerical analysis results.

  • In this paper, the horror game is defined as a game that is aimed at causing fear reactions to user. And this paper analyzed narrative elements for studying what causes fear reactions beyond the existing experimental study. This analysis is significant at the point of determining narrative principles in the horror game. So this paper has extracted horror elements from gothic horror novels that established as the 'horror' genre and has considered how these horror elements would be transformed actually in the horror game. So it analyzes how the space and narrative elements as the distinctive characteristics of game are transformed centrally in the case of the 'Silent hill' series(published by Konami Corporation). Furthermore this study will be expected to be a help for clarifying not only the horror game as a peculiar genre but also the relationship between the space and narrative elements in the game.

  • In this paper, the creep behavior of bolted rock was analyzed by using the unconfined creep tests and the numerical results. Based on the test results, the Bolted Burgers creep model (B-B model) was proposed to clarify the creep mechanism of rock mass due to rock bolts. As to the simulation of the creep behaviour of bolted rock, a new user-defined incremental iterative format of the B-B model was established and the open-source $FLAC^{3D}$ code was written by using the object-oriented language (C++). To check the reliability of the present B-B creep constitutive model program, a numerical model of a tunnel with buried depth of 1000 m was established to analyze the creep response of the tunnel with the B-B model support, the non-support and the bolt element support. The simulation results show that the present B-B model is consistent with the calculated results of the inherent bolt element in $FLAC^{3D}$, and the convergence deformation can be more effectively controlled when the proposed B-B model is used in the $FLAC^{3D}$ software. The big advantage of the present B-B creep model secondarily developed in the $FLAC^{3D}$ software is the high computational efficiency.

  • It is well recognized that residual stresses of the rails, generated from the manufacturing process including roller straightening and heat treatment, play an important role in determining fatigue and fracture properties of the rails. Thus, it has been a challenge to measure the residual stresses accurately. In this work, contour method was employed to evaluate the residual stresses existing in interior of the rails. The cross section perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the rail was cut at a very slow rate using electric discharge machining (EDM), after which a laser-based flexural measuring instrument enabled us to precisely measure the flection of the cross section. The measured data were converted into the residual stresses using the commercial finite element package, ABAQUS, through a user-defined element (UEL) subroutine, and the residual stresses of the new rails (50N, KR60, UIC60) with three different specifications were compared.

  • This study presents seismic responses of 5-story reinforced concrete structures retrofitted with the buckling-restrained braces using a time-dependent element. The time-dependent element having birth and death times can freely be activated within the user defined time intervals during the time history analysis. The buckling-restrained brace that showed the largest energy dissipation capacity among the test specimens in previous research was used for retrofitting the RC buildings in this study. It was assumed that the first story of the damaged building under the first earthquake was retrofitted with the buckling-restrained braces considered as the time-dependent element before the second of the successive earthquakes occurs. Under this assumption, this paper compares seismic responses of the RC structures with the time-dependent element subjected to the successive earthquake. Subjected to the second earthquake, it was observed that activation of the BRB systems largely decreases deformation of the moment frame where the damage was concentrated under the first earthquake. However, damages to the shear wall systems were increased after activation of the BRB systems. Since the cumulative damages of the shear wall systems were infinitesimal compared with the retrofit effect of the moment frame, the BRB system was effective under the successive earthquake.
