Since the operation of the first satellite-based navigation services, satellite positioning has played an increasing role in both surveying and navigation, and has become an indispensable tool for precise relative positioning. However, in some situations, e.g. at a low angle of elevation, the use of satellites for navigation is seriously restricted because obstacles like buildings and mountains can block signals. As a mean to resolve this problem, the quasi-zenith satellite system has been proposed as a next-generation satellite navigation system. Quasi-zenith satellite is a system which simultaneously deploys several satellites in a quasi-zenith geostationary orbit so that one of the satellites always stay close to the zenith if viewed from a specific point on the ground of East Asia. Thus, if a position measurement function compatible with GPS is installed in the quasi-zenith and stationary satellites, and these satellites are utilized together with the GPS, four satellites can be accessed simultaneously nearly all day long and a substantial improvement in position measurement, especially in metropolitan areas, can be achieved. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the effectiveness of quasi-zenith satellite system on positioning accuracy improvement through simulation by using precise orbital information of the satellites and a three-Dimensional digital map. Through this simulation system, it is possible to calculate the number of simultaneously visible satellites and available area of the positioning without the need of actual observation.
Today's commercial high resolution satellite imagery such as IKONOS and QuickBird, offers the potential to extract useful spatial information for geographical database construction and GIS applications. Recognizing this potential use of high resolution satellite imagery, KARI is performing a project for developing Korea multipurpose satellite 3(KOMPSAT-3). Therefore, it is necessary to develop techniques for various GIS applications of KOMPSAT-3, using similar high resolution satellite imagery. As fundamental studies for this purpose, we focused on the extraction of 3D spatial information and the update of existing GIS data from QuickBird imagery. This paper examines the scheme for rectification of high resolution image, and suggests the convenient semi-automatic algorithm for extraction of 3D building information from a single image. The algorithm is based on triangular vector structure that consists of a building bottom point, its corresponding roof point and a shadow end point. The proposed method could increase the number of measurable building, and enhance the digitizing accuracy and the computation efficiency.

It is very important to detect land cover/land use change from the past and to use it for future urban plan. This paper investigated the application of Landsat satellite imagery for detecting urban growth and assessing its impact on surface temperature in the region. Land cover/land use change detection was carried out by using 30m resolution Landsat satellite images and hierarchial approach was introduced to detect more detail change on the changing area through high resolution aerial photos. Also, surface temperature according to land cover/land use was calculated from Landsat TM thermal infrared data and compared with real temperature to analyze the relationship between urban expansion and surface temperature. As a result, the urban expansion has raised surface radiant temperature in the urbanized area. The method using remote sensing data based on GIS was found to be effective in monitoring and analysing urban growth and in evaluating urbanization impact on surface temperature.
This paper attempts to identify motivations of the satellite DMB use and to examine the relationship between user motivations and structure of genre consumption. Firstly, this paper identified motivational dimensions for satellite DMB usage. The results of the factor analysis revealed three dimensions: information-seeking, entertainment-oriented and social communication. It accounts for 69.9% of the variances found within this data. Secondly, the results of the regression analyses suggested that both information seeking and entertainment-oriented motivations were closely related to genre preferences of satellite DMB contents. In addition, these two motivations predicted genre repertoires and similarity in genre consumption. In conclusion, motivations of the satellite DMB use were the best predictors for explaining the structure of genre consumption.

Nowadays, the satellite communication systems provide worldwide or international service through organizations such as INTELSAT and INMARSAT, and the satellite communication technology has brought remarkable changes in the maritime mobile service as well as the fixed service on land. In our country, the international fixed satellite service via INTELSAT is no means inferior to the advanced countries, but to the contrary, we feel ashamed to admit that the facilities and technologies of our maritime satellite service via INMARSAT system donot keep abreast with the development pace of the world. This paper describes first the historical review of the development of satellite communication system is the world, then analyses the problems to bring the systems into wider use as early as possible, and filnally, I will make the following suggestions for the promotive direction on the INMARSAT systems. 1. Estabilishment of the earth stations at sea and on land. 2. Standardization of the qualification of the principal communicator on board. 3. Promotion of the international cooperation for the maritime mobile satellite service. 4. Establishment of the research institute on the INMARSAT systems.

Purpose of this study is to maximize inflection of code DGPS for LBS. Compare calibration method with pseudo range revision method for this and decides revision method. Also, examine variation that occur by inconsistency of satellite association of user and standard department for problem solution by satellite association. Model revision information through AR model who use RLSLF and minimises satellite association problem. I wish to do optimized code DGPS of digital map so that is possible through an experiment.
Like other computer vision research trends, research using satellite images was able to achieve rapid growth with the development of GPU-based computer computing capabilities and deep learning methodologies related to image processing. As a result, satellite images are being used in various fields, and the number of studies on how to use satellite images is increasing. Therefore, in this paper, we will introduce the field of research and utilization of satellite images and datasets that can be used for research using satellite images. First, studies using satellite images were collected and classified according to the research method. It was largely classified into a Regression-based Approach and a Classification-based Approach, and the papers used by other methods were summarized. Next, the datasets used in studies using satellite images were summarized. This study proposes information on datasets and methods of use in research. In addition, it introduces how to organize and utilize domestic satellite image datasets that were recently opened by AI hub. In addition, I would like to briefly examine the limitations of satellite image-related research and future trends.
Most of the public and private users who use national satellite information such as the KOMPSAT series mainly use Electro-Optical and Infrared (EO/IR) satellite images, and the utilization of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images is relatively insufficient. As KOMPSAT-5 currently in operation, KOMPSAT-6 and micro SAR satellite constellation systems are scheduled to be launched in the future, the demand for utilization of SAR satellite information is increasing in various fields. Accordingly, it is necessary to possess core technology for SAR utilization that can support the utilization of SAR satellite information for users. Due to the all-weather properties of SAR system, change detection technology is a key application technology. However, until now, the development of technology that automatic change detection and cueing using SAR images is insufficient. Through this study, the requirements of automatic change detection and cueing function using multi-temporal KOMPSAT-5 SAR satellite images were derived and a prototype program was developed. This prototype program aims to secure independent SAR utilization technology and promote the utilization of domestic SAR satellite information by practitioners in public sector organizations in Korea.
The operational NOAA satellite temperature soundings are utilized to determine the horizontal wind and vertical motion fields for a polar low case over the East Asian region by solving the nonlinear balance equation and the omega equation. Preliminary results demonstrate that the balanced wind and vertical motion fields derived from the satellite data give reasonable synoptic patterns associated with the polar low. This encourages the use of satellite information as inputs in the numerical weather prediction models.
In order to spatially interpolate the near-surface temperature (Ta) values, satellite and reanalysis methods were used from previous studies. Accuracy of reanalysis Ta was generally better than that of satellite-based Ta, but spatial resolution of reanalysis Ta was large to use at local scale studies. Our purpose is to evaluate accuracy of reanalysis Ta and satellite-based Ta according to elevation from April 2011 to March 2012 in Northeast Asia that includes various topographic features. In this study, we used reanalysis data that is ERA-Interim produced by European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), and estimated satellite-based Ta using Digital Elevation Meter (DEM), Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), difference between brightness temperature of $11{\mu}m$ and $12{\mu}m$, and Land Surface Temperature (LST) data. The DEM data was used as auxiliary data, and observed Ta at 470 meteorological stations was used in order to evaluate accuracy. We confirmed that the accuracy of satellite-based Ta was less accurate than that of ERA-Interim Ta for total data. Results of analyzing according to elevation that was divided nine cases, ERA-Interim Ta showed higher accurate than satellite-based Ta at the low elevation (less than 500 m). However, satellite-based Ta was more accurate than ERA-Interim Ta at the higher elevation from 500 to 3500 m. Also, the width of the upper and lower quartile appeared largely from 2500 to 3500 m. It is clear from these results that ERA-Interim Ta do not consider elevation because of large spatial resolution. Therefore, satellite-based Ta was more effective than ERA-Interim Ta in the regions that is range from 500 m to 3500 m, and satellite-based Ta was recommended at a region of above 2500 m.
