E-PON supports efficiently the increased Internet data traffic and efficient bandwidth assignment function by which the shared upstream bandwidth in the broadband access networks. In this paper, when different types of incoming sources are mapped into QoS-aware source and Best-Effort(BE) source, we propose the Dual-GPS schedulaer in E-PON that has the characteristics to provide delay and delay-constraint application, and maximizes the bandwidth to best-effort service. When transmit upstream data in E-PON, The proposed scheme supports the control capabilities of delay and delay-variation for required QoS flow through the novel bandwidth assignment scheme. Simulation results show our scheme outperforms the conventional bandwidth allocation scheme in controlling the delay and delay-variation of E-PON system.
There is a serious unfairness problem between upstream and downstream flows of AP in IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN. This problem is because Wireless LAN's DCF MAC protocol provides AP with equal channel access priority to mobile noded. Also, it makes this problem worse that the TCP's Data segment loss is more effective on throughput than the TCP's ACK segment. In this paper, we first make several simulations to analysis the unfairness in the various point of view and to find reasons of the unfairness. Also, this paper presents AP's scheduling scheme to alleviate the unfairness problem and evaluate the scheme through ns2 simulator.

Ultrasonic flow metering(UFM) technology is being received much attention from a variety of industrial fields to exactly measure the flow rate. The UFM has much advantage over other conventional flow meter systems, since it has no moving parts, and offers good accuracy and reliability without giving any disturbances to measure the flow rate, thereby not causing pressure losses in the flow fields. In the present study, 3-dimensional, unsteady, compressible Navier-Stokes equations are solved by a finite volume scheme, based upon the second order upwind scheme for spatial derivatives and the multi-stage Runge-Kutta integral method for time derivatives. In order to simulate multi-path ultrasonic flow meter, an excited pressure signal is applied to three different locations upstream, and the pressure signals are received at three different locations downstream. The mean flow velocities are calculated by the time difference between upstream and downstream propagating pressure signals. The obtained results show that the present CFD method simulates successfully ultrasonic meter gas flow and the mean velocity measured along the chord near the wall is considerably influenced by the boundary layers.

S(Synchrous)-DMT(Discrete Multi Tone) is an emerging cable modem technology applicable to the upstream channel for high speed multimedia communication. In this paper we analyze the transmitting and receiving process of S-DMT scheme and derive bit error probability of S-DMT scheme in the $\varepsilon$-mixture impulse noise model which appropriately reflects impulse noise model which approproately reflects impulse noise characteristics of upstream channel. The analysis results show a good match with the simulation results. We also compare Eb/No gain performance of S-DMT with TDMA in 16-, 32-, 64-QAM.
Flood routing in the Youngsan River was performed for the flood event of July, 1989 by two finite difference methods. The Saint Venant eq., a kind of hyperbolic partial differential equation is employed as governing equation and the explicit scheme (Leap Frog) and implicit scheme (Preissmann) are used to discretize the GE. As for the external boundary conditions, discharge and tidal elevation are upstream and downstream BC, respectively and estuary dam is included in internal BC. Lateral inflows and upstream discharges are the hourly results from storage function method, At Naju station, a Relatively upstream points in this river, the outputs are interpreted as good ones by comparing two numerical results of FDMs with the observed data and the calibrated results by storage function method. and two computational results are compared at the other sites, from middle stream and downstream points, and thus are considered reliable. Therefore, we can conclude from this research that these numerical models are adaptable in simulating and forecasting the flood in natural channels in Korea as well as existing hydrologic models. And the study about optimal gate control at the flood time is expected as further study using these models.
A simple method is proposed to split the flux vector of the Euler equations by introducing two artificial wave speeds. The direction of wave propagation can be adjusted by these two wave speeds. This idea greatly simplifies the upwinding, and leads to a new family of upwind schemes. Numerical flux function for multi-dimensional Euler equations is formulated for any grid system, structured or unstructured. A remarkable simplicity of the scheme is that it successfully achieves one-sided approximation for all waves without recourse to any matrix operation. Moreover, its accuracy is comparable with the exact Riemann solver. For 1-D Euler equations, the scheme actually surpasses the exact solver in avoiding expansion shocks without any additional entropy fix. The scheme can exactly resolve stationary contact discontinuities, and it is also freed of the carbuncle problem in multidimensional computations.
In devising a numerical approximation for the convective spatial transport of a fluid mechanical quantity, it is noted that the convective motion of a scalar quantity occurs in one-way, or from upstream to downstream. This consideration leads to a new scheme termed a pure upwind difference scheme (PUDS) in which an estimated value for a fluid mechanical quantity at a control surface is not influenced from downstream values. The formal accuracy of the proposed scheme is third order accurate. Two typical benchmark problems of a wall-driven fluid flow in a square cavity and a buoyancy-driven natural convection in a tall cavity are computed to evaluate performance of the proposed method. for comparison, the widely used simple upwind scheme, power-law scheme, and QUICK methods are also considered. Computation results are encouraging: the proposed PUDS sensitized to the convection direction produces the least numerical diffusion among tested convection schemes, and, notable improvements in representing recirculation of fluid stream and spatial change of a scalar. Although the formal accuracy of PUDS and QUICK are the same, the accuracy difference of approximately a single order is observed from the revealed results.
Effects of rotor-stator blade count ratio on the unsteady aerodynamic characteristics of a cascade was studied by using a Navier-Stokes code. Present Navier-Stokes code is a parallel code and works on a multi-cpu machine. It is based on the SIMPLE algorithm and uses QUICK scheme for convection terms and second order back difference for all temporal derivatives. Computations were carried out for two cases : case 1 is for 3 stator cascade passages subjected to two upstream wakes while case 2 is for 2 stator cascade passages subjected to three upstream wakes. Numerical solutions show that rotor-stator blade count ratio plays a significant role in the unsteady aerodynamic characteristics of the stator cascade. Case 2 shows smaller unsteady fluctuation than case 1, even if they show the same time averaged value. The smaller fluctuation of case 2 is believed due to strong interaction between unsteady vortices. The unsteady lift variation of case 2 is shown to have many high frequency fluctuations as more unsteady vortices travel around the cascade. The unsteady turbulent kinetic energy due to the upstream wake is also shown to decay faster through the cascade passage than in the free stream.

Airframe-integrated Scramjet engines of NASA Langley type consist of a compressor, a combustion chamber and a nozzle. When some disturbances occur in one module of the engine, its influences are propagated to other modules. In this study, it is investigated numerically how shock waves were caused by thermal choking in one module propagate upstream and how they influence adjacent modules. The calculations are carried out in 2-dimensional supersonic viscous flow model using explicit TVD scheme in generalized coordinates. The adverse pressure gradient caused by heat addition brings about separation of the wall boundary layers and formation of the oblique shock wave that proceed to upstream. This moving shock wave formed one module blocks the flow coming into the adjacent modules, which makes the modules unstarted.

An expanded scheme of direct numerical solution method for solving the Reynolds' equation in the boundary fitted coordinate systems for the gas lubrication with ultra low clearance is presented. Skewed slider is calculated by this scheme and results are compared to the original direct numerical solution. The modified scheme has advantages in stability in high compressibility number region. At the lower A region the difference in results of original and modified method is several percents.
