Properties of photoluminescience for ZnSe/GaAs epilayer grown by hot wall epitaxy

  • The ZnSe epilayers were grown on the GaAs substrate by hot wall epitaxy. After the ZnSe epilayers treated in the vacuum-, Zn-, and Se-atmosphere, respectively, the defects of the epilayer were investigated by means of the low-temperature photoluminescence measurement. The dominant peaks at 2.7988 eV and 2.7937 eV obtained from the PL spectrum of the as-grown ZnSe epilayer were found to be consistent with the upper and the lower polariton peak of the exciton, $I_{2}$ ($D^{\circ}$, X), bounded to the neutral donor associated with the Se-vacancy. This donor-impurity binding energy was calculated to be 25.3 meV, The exciton peak, $I_{1}^{d}$ at 2.7812 eV was confirmed to be bound to the neutral acceptor corresponded with the Zn-vacancy. The $I_{1}^{d}$ peak was dominantly observed in the ZnSe/GaAs : Se epilayer treated in the Se-atmosphere. This Se-atmosphere treatment may convert the ZnSe/GaAs : Se epilayer into the p-type. The SA peak was found to be related to a complex donor like a $(V_{se}-V_{zn})-V_{zn}$.

Micro-meteorological Characteristics during the Steam Fog over the Gumi Reservoir of Nakdong River (낙동강 구미 보의 증기 안개 발생 시의 미기상학적 특성)

  • We analyzed the micro-meteorological characteristics during typical steam fog over the Gumi Reservoir of Nakdong river with the field observation data for recent 2 year(1 April 2013~31 March 2015) collected by the national institute of meteorological research, KMA. Steam fog occur when the cold drainage flows over the warm water surface. As the sensible and latent heat from water are provided to the air, the instability of lower atmosphere is increased. The resultant vertical mixing of warm, moist air near water surface and cold air aloft causes the formation of status cloud. The convection strengthened by radiative cooling of the upper part of the stratus causes the fog to propagate downward. Also, the temperature at the lowest atmosphere is increased rapidly and the inversion near surface disappear by these processes when the fog forms. The increase of wind speed is observed because the downward transportation of momentum is caused by vertical mixing.

Classification of Precipitation Type Using the Wind Profiler Observations and Analysis of the Associated Synoptic Conditions: Years 2003-2005 (윈드프로파일러 관측 자료를 이용한 장마철 강수 형태 분류와 관련된 종관장의 특성 분석: 2003년-2005년)

  • Remote sensing techniques using satellites or the scanning weather radars depend mostly on the presence of clouds or precipitation, and leave the extensive regions of clear air unobserved. But wind profilers provide the most direct measurements of mesoscale vertical air motion in the troposphere, even in the context of heavy precipitation. In this paper, the precipitation events during the Changma period was classified into 4 precipitation types - stratiform, mixed stratiform/ convective, deep convective, and shallow convective. The parameters for the classification of analysis are the vertical structure of reflectivity, Doppler velocity, and spectral width measured with the wind profiler at Haenam for a three-year period (2003-2005). In addition, the synoptic fields and total amount of precipitation were analyzed using the Global Final Analyses (FNL) data and the Global Precipitation Climatology Project (GPCP) data. During the Changma period, the results show that the stratiform type was dominant under the moist-neutral atmosphere in 2003, whereas the deep convective type was under the moist unstable condition in 2004. The stratiform type was no less popular than the deep convective type among four seasons because the moist neutral layer was formed by the convergence between the upper-level jet and the low-level jet, and by the moisture transport along the western rim of the North Pacific subtropical anticyclone.

  • The flight test comes at the end of the aircraft development process and is an unique part. The purposes of the flight test are to evaluate the characteristics of the aircraft and validate its design in the real operating environment. Atmospheric considerations are key elements, when the planner of flight test establishes the flight test planning. The primary objective of atmospheric considerations is to ensure safety of the vehicle. The planning through atmospheric considerations can minimize flight cancellations caused by severe weather. In this paper, we present a program for flight suitability distinction, and develop a program for calculation of available sorties.

Numerical Study of Snowfall Mechanism arounf Seoul Region

  • A numerical simulation was carried out to investigate the mechanism of snowfall around the Seoul region during a cold air-outbreak in the winter season. A particular case was selected for this study(Dec. 19, 1999). The inflow directions of the synoptic flow in the upper and lower levels were westerly and north-westerly, respectively. Plus, there was a deep trough and thermal ridge at a level of 500/700/850 hPa over the Bal-Hae region, in the northern part of the Korean peninsula. According to the model results, snowfall occurred around the Seoul region with the simultaneous existence of a strong static instability in the lower atmosphere, northerly or westerly dry air advection, and strong thermal advection toward the Seoul region. There was a strong convergence thereby indicating the existence of convective rolls in the clouds. The main energy source of convection over the Yellow sea was a sensible heat flux. The main moisture source was convection. Radiative cooling in the cloud layer intensified the static instability in the lower atmosphere.

Observing Sensitivity Experiment Based on Convective Scale Model for Upper-air Observation Data on GISANG 1 (KMA Research Vessel) in Summer 2018 (현업 국지모델기반 2018년 여름철 기상 1호 특별 고층관측자료의 관측 민감도 실험)

  • KMA performed the special observation program to provide information about severe weather and to monitor typhoon PRAPIROON using the ship which called the Gisang 1 from 29 June 2018 to 4 July 2018 (UTC). For this period, upper-air was observed 21 times with 6 hour intervals using rawinsonde in the Gisang 1. We investigated the impact of upper-air observation data from the Gisang 1 on the performance of the operational convective scale model (we called LDAPS). We conducted two experiments that used all observation data including upper-air observation data from the Gisang 1 (OPER) and without it (EXPR). For a typhoon PRAPIROON case, track forecast error of OPER was lower than EXPR until forecast 24 hours. The intensity forecast error of OPER for minimum sea level pressure was lower than EXPR until forecast 12 hours. The intensity forecast error of OPER for maximum wind speed was mostly lower than EXPR until forecast 30 hours. OPER showed good performance for typhoon forecast compared with EXPR at the early lead time. Two precipitation cases occurred in the south of the Korean peninsula due to the impact of Changma on 1 July and typhoon on 3 July. The location of main precipitation band predicted from OPER was closer to observations. As assimilating upper-air data observed in the Gisang 1 to model, it showed positive results in typhoon and precipitation cases.

Overall, the pressurization of the lobby makes it stairwell amount of pressure(+) to the zone in pressure designed to prevent the spread of smoke control performance and found that, the way a normal state and sub-pressurization in the stairwell with stack effect of the turbulence Such as the formation of the upper flow, but, in the upper atmosphere with pressurization was formed by the underlying trend.

A Study on the Explosion Characteristics of City Gas (도시가스의 폭발 특성에 관한 연구)

  • Explosive characteristics of the city gas were determined by using the gas explosion apparatues. The explosive range is determined between lower explosive limit of 5.0% and upper explosive limit of 15.3% at atmosphere and even though the oxygen concentration is decreased, lower explosive limit is not changed, but upper explosive limit is rapidly decreased. The minimum oxygen for combustion is determined 10%. The maximum explosion pressure is determined 5.72$\textrm{cm}^2$ and the maximum rate of explosion pressure rise is oxygen concentration of 12% to determined 160.12$\textrm{cm}^2{\cdot}$sec.

The Role of Fronts on the Vertical Transport of Atmospheric Pollutants II: Vertical transport experiment using MM5 (대기오염물질의 연직 수송에 미치는 전선의 역할 II: MM5를 이용한 3차원 연직 수송 실험)

  • Neglecting the vertical transport from the surface, most of the previous studies on the long-range transport of pollutants have only considered the horizontal transport caused by the free atmosphere wind. I used a three dimensional numerical model, MM5 (The fifth generation Penn State Univ./NCAR Mesoscale Model) for the simulation of vertical transport of pollutants and investigated the mechanism of the vertical transport of atmospheric pollutants between planetary boundary layer(PBL) and free atmosphere by fronts. From the three dimensional simulation of MM5, the amount of pollutants transport from PBL to free atmosphere is 48% within 18 hour after the development of front, 55% within 24 hour, and 53% within 30 hour. The ratios of the vertically transported pollutant for different seasons are 62%, 60%, 54%, and 43% for spring, summer, fall, and winter, respectively. The most active areas for the vertical transport are the center of low pressure and the warm sector located east side of cold front, in which the strong upward motion slanted northward occurs. The horizontal advection of pollutants at the upper level is stronger than at the lower level simply because of the stronger wind speed. The simulation results shows the well known plum shape distribution of pollutants. The high concentration area is located in the center and north of the low pressure system, while the second highest concentration area is in the warm sector. It is shown that the most important mechanism for the vertical transport is vertical advection, while the vertical diffusion process plays an important role in the redistribution of pollutants in the PBL.
