  • Fair Queueing has been studied only on wired network. When it is applied to wireless netowork, the collision phenomenon makes a problem.'rho information of queue of MT cannot be transferred to fair queueing algorithm In real time easily. We propose wireless fair queueing scheduler that protects short term farirness and long term fairness. We developed it in TDMA/TDD enviroment. Our scheme also supports uplink and downlink at the same time. And it can make subframe boundary based on fair scheduling algorithm.

  • This paper describes playback downlink and telecommand uplink channel design performed for a transportable small-sized KOMPSAT(Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite) ground station. As a result of downlink channel design, required receiving performance was calculated from the threshold signal-to-noise ratio of playback signal and it was revealed that this performance can be guaranteed in 1.5 m ground station with 6.5 dB/K of G/T. For the uplink channel design, 40 dBW of EIRP was derived from the threshold signal-to-noise ratio of telecommand signal received at on-board receiver. The implemented small-sized ground station based on design was evaluated to be fully acceptable for KOMPSAT TT&C(Telemetry, Tracking and Command) system and playback downlink design without taking account of additional 3 dB system link margin was shown to be effective because it had provided constantly initial channel performance without any remarkable degradation over several years of tests with KOMPSAT and KOMPSAT-2, for both uplink and playback downlink in the elevation angle above $10^{\circ}$.

  • In this paper, we propose a joint power control strategy for both the uplink and downlink transmission by considering the energy requirements of the user equipments' uplink data transmissions in data and energy integrated communication networks (DEINs). In DEINs, the base station (BS) adopts the power splitting (PS) aided simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) technique in the downlink (DL) transmissions, while the user equipments (UEs) carry out their own uplink (UL) transmissions by exploiting the energy harvested during the BS's DL transmissions. In our DEIN model, there are M UEs served by the BS in order to fulfil both of their DL and UL transmissions. The orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) technique is adopted for supporting the simultaneous transmissions of multiple UEs. Furthermore, a transmission frame is divided into N time slots in the medium access control (MAC) layer. The mathematical model is established for maximizing the sum-throughput of the UEs' DL transmissions and for ensuring their fairness during a single transmission frame T, respectively. In order to achieve these goals, in each transmission frame T, we optimally allocate the BS's power for each subcarrier and the PS factor for each UE during a specific time slot. The original optimisation problems are transformed into convex forms, which can be perfectly solved by convex optimisation theories. Our numerical results compare the optimal results by conceiving the objective of maximising the sum-throughput and those by conceiving the objective of maximising the fair-throughput. Furthermore, our numerical results also reveal the inherent tradeoff between the DL and the UL transmissions.

  • The satellite 2.1 GHz frequency bands, 1980-2010 MHz and 2170-2200MHz are allocated for mobile satellite service including satellite IMT, while it does not preclude the use of these bands for mobile services. The concept of an integrated satellite/terrestrial network has been introduced in worldwide because the terrestrial use in these bands adjacent to existing terrestrial IMT bands is attractive to provide mobile broadband services. The integrated satellite/terrestrial infrastructure with a high degree of spectrum utilization efficiency has the ability to provide both multimedia broadband services and public protection and disaster relief solutions. In addition, it is required to consider interference issues between the terrestrial and satellite components in order to reuse the same frequency band to both satellite and terrestrial component. This paper analyzes the interference for satellite uplink in the satellite/terrestrial integrated system and the interference reduction scheme for satellite uplink interfered by terrestrial user equipment.

  • In this paper, we introduce a new approach for the design of uplink sub-channel allocation and power control in the High-speed Portable Internet system that is based on OmMAnDD scheme. In OFDMA system, because the number of allocated sub-channel in mobile station varies from one to the whole sub-channel as in base station while mobile station's transmit power is lower than that of base station, full loading range(FLR) constraint occurs where whole sub-channel can be used and the conventional open-loop power control scheme can not be used beyond FLR. We propose a new scheme that limits the maximum sub-channel allocation number and uses power concentration gain(PCG) depending on location of mobile station, which is based on ranging in OfDMA system. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme extends the uplink coverage to the entire cell service coverage area, provides solutions for optimum utilization of radio resource and enables open-loop power control beyond FLR without extra hardware complexity.

  • In this paper, we propose a Cyclic-Prefix Code Division Multiple Access system that uses Sequences with Good Autocorrelation property(GAS-CP-CDMA) and analyze the uplink signal-to-noise ratio performance of that system. Phase-shifted sequences are used for differentiating users. The signals of the GAS-CP-CDMA system experience no (or very little) interferences from co-cell signals because of the good autocorrelation property, but user signals of adjacent cells may yield interferences. The frequency reuse factor in the ordinary CDMA system is around 0.6 and the interference from adjacent cells is about 40 percent of the total interference in the conventional CDMA system. Our numerical analysis shows that the frequency reuse factor and user capacity versus signal-to-noise ratio of the GAS-CP-CDMA system are improved comparing to the conventional CDMA system. The uplink user capacity of the proposed system can be increased up to about twice of that of the conventional CDMA system.

  • This paper deals with the problem of unfairness among uplink TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) flows associated with frame aggregation employed in IEEE 802.11n WLANs (Wireless Local Area Networks). When multiple stations have uplink TCP flows and transmit TCP data packets to an AP (Access Point), the AP has to compete for channel access with stations for the transmission of TCP ACK (acknowledgement) packets to the stations. Due to this contention-based channel access, TCP ACKs tend to be accumulated in the AP's downlink buffer. We show that the frame aggregation in the MAC (Medium Access Control) layer increases TCP ACK losses in the AP and leads to the serious unfair operation of TCP congestion control. To resolve this problem, we propose the TAC (TCP ACK Compression) mechanism operating at the top of the AP's interface queue. By exploiting the properties of cumulative TCP ACK and frame aggregation, TAC serves only the representative TCP ACK without serving redundant TCP ACKs. Therefore, TAC reduces queue occupancy and prevents ACK losses due to buffer overflow, which significantly contributes to fairness among uplink TCP flows. Also, TAC enhances the channel efficiency by not transmitting unnecessary TCP ACKs. The simulation results show that TAC tightly assures fairness under various network conditions while increasing the aggregate throughput, compared to the existing schemes.

  • We treat device-to-device direct communication (D2D) by reusing cellular uplink resources in LTE-Advanced systems. Conventional schemes assume that D2D transmitter employs SC-FDMA scheme for the date transmission. In the conventional schemes, however, it is very difficult to reduce the interference between the users, D2D communication cannot be used when the interference caused by cellular uplink signal is high. In this paper, we propose D2D transmission scheme which employes MC-CDMA technology and D2D detection scheme which uses MMSE algorithm to reduce interference from the cellular uplink signal. Therefore, in the proposed scheme the D2D communication becomes possible even in the high interference scenario. Through simulation, we show that the proposed scheme has better BER performance than the conventional scheme.
