The stabilization control of inverted pendulum (IP) system is difficult because of its nonlinearity and structural unstability. In this paper, an Evolving Neural Network Controller (ENNC) without Error Back Propagation (EBP) is presented. An ENNC is described simply by genetic representation using an encoding strategy for types and slope values of each active functions, biases, weights and so on. By an evolutionary programming which has three genetic operation; selection, crossover and mutation, the predetermine controller is optimally evolved by updating simultaneously the connection patterns and weights of the neural networks. The performances of the proposed ENNC(PENNC)are compared with the one of conventional optimal controller and the conventional evolving neural network controller (CENNC) through the simulation and experimental results. And we showed that the finally optimized PENNC was very useful in the stabilization control of an IP system.
Proper installation of Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) devices in existing transmission networks can enable power systems to accommodate more power transfer with less network expansion cost. The problem to maximize transmission system loadability by determining optimal locations and settings for installations of two types of FACTS devices, namely static var compensator (SVC) and thyristor controlled series compensator (TCSC), is formulated as a mixed discrete-continuous nonlinear optimization problem (MDCP). For solving the MDCP, in the paper, the proposed method with fitness sharing technique involved in the updating process of the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm, can diversify the particles over the search regions as much as possible, making it possible to achieve the optimal solution with a big probability. The modified IEEE-14 bus network and a practical power system are used to validate the proposed method.
This paper presents a rule-based approach for automatically selecting critical contingencies in electric power systems. The rules required to perform the task are derived from inspection about results of simulation and expertise of operators. And inherent information of system, for example, topology of system configuration, and flow direction in a line by compensation theorem. etc., which are independent of operating point of system, is stored in the database using the off-line calculation. The approach was investigated using the study of a sample test system. Since it is based on the knowledge engineering technique, efficiency of selection can be improved by updating and adding the rules.

An optimal design method for hybrid structural control system of building structures subject to earthquake excitation is presented in this paper. Designing a hybrid structural control system nay be defined as a process that optimizes the capacities and configuration of passive and active control systems as well as structural members. The optimal design proceeds by formulating the optimization problem via a multi-stage goal programming technique and, then, by finding reasonable solution to the optimization problem by means of a goal-updating genetic algorithm. The process of the integrated optimization design is illustrated by a numerical simulation of a nine-story building structure subject to earthquake excitation. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated by comparing the optimally designed results with those of a hybrid structural control system where structural members, passive and active control systems are uniformly distributed.
This paper presents an autonomous mobile robot (AMR) system and operation algorithms for logistic and factory facilities without magnet-lines installation. Unlike widely used AMR systems, we propose an EKF-based loosely coupled fusion of LiDAR measurements and visual markers. Our method first constructs occupancy grid and visual marker map in the mapping process and utilizes prebuilt maps for precise localization. Also, we developed a waypoint-based navigation pipeline for robust autonomous operation in unconstrained environments. The proposed system estimates the robot pose using by updating the state with the fusion of visual marker and LiDAR measurements. Finally, we tested the proposed method in indoor environments and existing factory facilities for evaluation. In experimental results, this paper represents the performance of our system compared to the well-known LiDAR-based localization and navigation system.

The Ant Colony System (ACS) is a variant of Ant colony optimization algorithm which is well-known in Traveling Salesman Problem. This paper proposed a hybrid method based on genetic algorithm (GA) and ant colony system (ACS), called GACS, to solve traffic routing problem. In the GACS, we use genetic algorithm to optimize the ACS parameters that aims to attain the shortest trips and time through new functions to help the ants to update global and local pheromones. Our experiments are performed by the GACS framework which is developed from VANETsim with the ability of real map loading from open street map project, and updating traffic light in real-time. The obtained results show that our framework acquired higher performance than A-Star and classical ACS algorithms in terms of length of the best global tour and the time for trip.
