In this study, eco-friendly hybrid composite boards were manufactured from green tea and wood fibers for application as interior materials with various functionalities of green tea and strong strength properties of wood fibers. In this relation, the effect of green tea content on the static bending strength performances of these green tea and wood fibers composite boards were investigated. Static bending strengths of hybrid composite boards were lower than those of control boards and decreased with the increase of green tea content. Also, the strength performances appeared to be somewhat different by resin type used for board manufacture. The hybrid composite boards manufactured from $E_1$ grade urea resin adhesive, which has higher molar ratio of formaldehyde to urea than that of $E_0$ grade one, were 1.08~1.53 times higher in bending modulus of elasticity (MOE) and 1.19~1.82 higher in modulus of rupture (MOR) than that manufactured from $E_0$ grade. And, the differences of MOE and MOR between hybrid composite boards manufactured from $E_0$ grade and $E_0$ grade urea resin adhesive increased with the increase of green tea content. In the case of hybrid composite boards manufactured from $E_1$ grade urea resin adhesive, the MOR was within 0.94~1.03 times the commercial medium density fiberboard. Thus, it was thought that eco-friendly hybrid composite boards with various functionalities and strong strength performances could be manufactured from green tea and wood fibers.

This study was carried out to investigate the effect of environmental fators on backfat thickness and carcass weight and to investigate the carcass grade frequencies by sex, backfat thickness and carcass weight in commercial pigs. Total 20,450,773 of commercial pigs was used in this study, which were obtained from Korea institute for Animal Product Evaluation (KAPE) from July 1, 2007 to April 30, 2009. The averages of carcass weight and backfat thickness were $20.76{\pm}0.001mm$ and $85.97{\pm}0.002kg$, respectively. Carcass weight and backfat thickness of barrow were $22.55{\pm}0.002mm$ and $86.25{\pm}0.003kg$, respectively, which were significantly higher than those of males and females. The carcass weight and backfat thickness were increased with the slaughter years. In the effects of the season of slaughter, carcass weight was significantly higher in winter ($87.00{\pm}0.007kg$), and the backfat thickness was significantly higher in fall ($19.32{\pm}0.004mm$). In grade frequencies of carcass quality grade in sex, grade frequencies of high grade in barrow was higher than those of female in hot carcass and cold carcass. In grade frequencies of carcass quality grade in carcass weight, grade frequencies of high grade in 84~88kg was higher than the other groups in hot carcass and cold carcass. In grade frequencies of carcass quality grade in backfat thickness, grade frequencies of high grade in 22~24 mm was higher than other groups in hot carcass and cold carcass.

This study was conducted to investigate the bacteriological and physiological quality of seawater and surface sediments in Sacheon Bay of Korea from January to September in 2009. During the study period, the means of temperature was range from 5.3 to $24.9^{\circ}C$ (mean $17.7{\pm}0.4^{\circ}C$), transparency range from 1.4 to 2.5 m (mean $1.8{\pm}0.5m$), suspended solid ranged from 16.2 to 35.8 mg/L (mean $24.2{\pm}2.2mg/L$), chemical oxygen demand ranged from 1.42 to $3.29mgO_2/L$ (mean $2.06{\pm}0.55mgO_2/L$), dissolved oxygen ranged from 6.7 to 9.5mg/L (mean $7.9{\pm}0.6mg/L$), respectively. Seafood, if eaten raw, carries the risk of food poisoning. Seafood poisoning is often cause by pathogenic microorganism originating from fecal contamination, such as Salmonella sp., Shigella sp. and norovirus. Fecal coliforms are an important indicator of fecal contamination. Therefor, data on fecal coliform are very important for evaluating the safety of fisheries in coastal areas. So, we investigated the sanitary indicate bacteria. In this study, 56 sea water samples were collected from the Sacheon Bay, and total and fecal coliforms were compared and analyzed. The coliform group and fecal coliform MPN's of sea water in Sacehon Bay were ranged from <1.8~7,900 MPN/100mL (GM 214.7 MPN/100mL) and <1.8~330 MPN/100mL (GM 9.7 MPN/ 100mL), respectively. Total coliforms were detected in 75.0% of the samples and 76.2% of the total coliforms were fecal coliforms. During the study period, the means of water content, ignition loss, COD, and acid volatile sulfates in sediments in Sacheon Bay were $53.28{\pm}2.58%$, $9.38{\pm}0.42%$, $14.23{\pm}3.36mgO_2/g$, $0.09{\pm}0.07mgS/g$, respectively.
This study was carried out to evaluate effects of distance and difference of ground level between two natural ventilating pig houses on their ventilation by using simulation. Distance between two pig houses was 6 or 12 m. Difference of ground level between two pig houses was 0 or 2 m. Mean air velocities in summer and winter were designated to 1.3 and 1.1 m/s. Under the conditions of summer, air velocities in all the pig houses in south were about 0.75 m/s regardless of distance and difference of ground level between two pig houses and air velocities in the second pig houses in north were about 0.75 m/s at difference of ground level of 0m and about 0.0 m/s at difference of ground level of 2 m, respectively. Under the conditions of winter, air velocities in all the pig houses in south were about 0.15 m/s regardless of distance and difference of ground level between two pig houses and air velocities of the second pig houses in north were about 0.0 m/s at distance of 6 m and about 0.15 m/s at distance of 12 m, respectively. Therefore, it is suggested that the optimum distance and difference of ground level between two natural ventilating pig houses might be 12 m and 0 m.

The objective of this work was to investigate the influence of ultrasonification on extraction yield and chemical properties of green tea infusion. Changes in total soluble matter(TSM), vitamin C, total phenolic compounds, flavonols, catechins, caffeine, free amino acids contents in green tea infusion(GTI) influenced by ultrasonification at $60^{\circ}C$ of extraction temperature for 1, 5, 30, and 60 min were investigated. The amount of infused TSM increased about 5.3% by ultrasonification for 60min. Vitamin C contents also increased 0.21, 0.16, 0.31 mg/g from 1 to 30 min by ultrasonification. However, vitamin C decreased from 2.47 to 2.22 mg/g at 60min. Total phenol compounds contents increased about 10~13 mg/g on all extraction times by ultrasonification. Flavonols such as, myricetin, quercetin, kaempferol were increased to doubled contents as an influence of ultrasonification. Catechins such as, EGCG, EGC, ECG, EC, (+)-C and caffeine contents showed same tendency as the results of vitamin C. On the other hand, result of free amino acids showed different tendency. All amounts of free amino acids did not increase by ultrasonification. Consequently, content of bioactive compounds such as, vitamin C, total phenolic, flavonols and catechins in green tea infusion were influenced by ultrasonification.
This experiment was designated to investigate the effects of dietary supplementation with various concentrations of oriental herbal natural extract, Galla Rhois (GR), on growth performance and meat quality on broiler chickens. A total of 80 two-day-old broiler chicks were randomly designated to four groups, GR 0% diet (control), GR 0.10%, 0.25%, and 0.50%-treated diet, composed 20 chicks and fed a standard diet supplemented with GR and monitored the growth performance every 5 days during 30 days. Body weight gain (BWG) in all treated groups was increased compared to control group during overall period, showing significant (P<0.05) increase in GR 0.25% and 0.50% independent on concentration, though all group represented a similar level of feed intake (FI) and feed conversion rate (FCR). In analysis of the crude proteins and fatty acid composition in leg and breast meats in control, GR 0.10% and GR 0.50%, there was no significant difference for crude proteins and fatty acid composition in leg meats among 3 groups. Whereas the crude proteins and fatty acid composition in breast meat in GR 0.50% showed significantly higher than those of control (P<0.05). Furthermore, the composition of a-linoleic acid (C18:3n-3) and conjugated linoleic acid, which are known as anticancer and antioxidative fatty acids, are higher than those of control. These results demonstrate that Galla Rhois appears to improve growth performance, feed efficiency and meat quality on broiler chickens, focusing on potential use as a dietary supplement.

Studies were carried out to elucidate the effect of temperature, glasshouse forcing date and $GA_3$ on the growth and flowering of pot Hydrangea macrophylla Ser. The plant height was elongated in the $5^{\circ}C$ treatments as 38 cm compared with $20^{\circ}C$ treatment as 6.7 cm, and stem length showed the similar results. The leaf length and width was broadened in the lower temperature, and stem diameter showed the same tendency. The first flowering date in the $15^{\circ}C$ and $20^{\circ}C$ treatment shortened markedly than $5^{\circ}C$ treatment. Days to flowering date of $5^{\circ}C$ was 161 day, while it shortened as 88 day in the $15^{\circ}C$ treatment. The flowering rate was 75.8~90.7% in the temperature. The plant height was elongated in the late glasshouse forcing date, and the leaf length and width showed the similar tendency. The plant height increased in the higher concentration of $GA_3$ compared to the control, and leaf length and width showed the similar results. The first flowering day was advanced by 7 days in the $GA_3$$50mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ treatment which had been transferred to greenhouse on Dec. 30 compared with the control of which first flowering day was March 17, and the days to first flowering was conspicuously shortened in the late glasshouse forcing treatment. The width of flower cluster was increased in the $GA_3$ at Dec. 30 glasshouse forcing treatment. The flowering rate was markedly decreased as 62.3% in the control of Nov. 15 treatment, but was increased as 97.9% of $GA_3$$50mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ of Jan. 15 treatment.

In this study, in addition to the green tea - wood fiber hybrid composite boards of previous researches, to make effective use of saw dust of domestic cypress tree with functionalities and application as interior materials, eco-friendly hybrid composite boards were manufactured from wood fiber, green tea and saw dust of cypress tree. We investigated the effect of the component ratio of saw dust and green tea on dynamic MOE (modulus of elasticity). Dynamic MOE was within 1.41~1.65 GPa, and showed the highest value in wood fiber : green tea : saw dust = 50 : 40 : 10 of the component ratio, and had the lowest value in 50 : 30 : 20 of component ratio. These values were 1.4~1.6 times higher than static bending MOE of wood fiber - saw dust - green tea hybrid composite boards, and were 2.0~2.9 times lower than those of green tea - wood fiber hybrid composite boards reported in the previous researches. From the results of correlation regression analyses between dynamic MOE and static strength performances, a very high correlation coefficients were obtained, therefore it was found that static bending strength performances can be estimated with a high reliability from dynamic MOE.
Salmonella spp. are one of major pathogens for zoonosis in worldwide, and can replicate within host cells and generally cause enterocolitis and foodborne poisoning which represents a considerable public health burden. The present study was designated to investigate the safty for host cells, antibacterial effects of Saururus chinensis Baill water extract (SCWE) on pure culture and infection with Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium (S. typhimurium) in murine derived macrophage RAW 264.7 cells. The different treatment of SCWE concentration (1, 10 or $100{\mu}g/ml$) did not show any cytotoxic effect to RAW 264.7 cells for 24 h incubation. In determination of antibacterial activity of SCWE against S. typhimurium, bacterial viability was markedly decreased compared to SCWE-untreated control. In RAW 264.7 cells, SCWE significantly induced morphological change (p<0.05). In infection assay of S. typhimurium in RAW 264.7 cells pretreated with $100{\mu}g/ml$ of SCWE, which are non-cytotoxic concentration, bacterial uptake ability of macrophage was increased corresponding with morphological change, whereas bacterial survival rates within macrophage was markedly reduced comparing to that of SCWE-untreated control. Furthermore, nitric oxide (NO) production in SCWE-treated cells was slightly decreased until 24 h post infection. Taken together, these findings demonstrated that SCWE have the antibacterial activity for S. typhimurium and the protective effects against S. typhimurium infection through activating murine macrophage independent on NO, suggesting that SCWE were beneficial on the disease caused by intracellularly replicating pathogens as a safe alternatives of conventional chemotherapies.
This study was performed to obtain a heat saving effect and enhance the efficiency of a greenhouse by using a hot water piping in order to minimize the operating costs of a greenhouse as oil prices continue to rise. This method also reduces the likelihood of accidents caused by snowdrifts in regions with heavy snowfall. In general, the experimental plot was $2.0{\sim}6.0^{\circ}C$ higher than the control plot. When the skylight felt was opened, the minimum temperature was in the range of $3.0{\sim}12.0^{\circ}C$. Therefore, we judged that damage caused by snowdrifts may be prevented partly by active heating. The temperature difference inside of the greenhouse by height was insignificant. The maximum heating load of the greenhouse according to crop was respectively about $37,000kcal{\cdot}h^{-1}$ and $41,700kcal{\cdot}h^{-1}$. During the experiment, the heat value of each designed temperature in the range of the minimum ambient temperature $-11.9{\sim}4.0^{\circ}C$ was about 95,000~322,000 kcal and it was in the range of $6,050{\sim}20,900kcal{\cdot}h^{-1}$. If it is compared with the maximum heating load, it can be shown that about 15~56% of the heating energy can be supplied. The total heat value and the amount of power consumption were 2,629,025 kcal and 677.3 kWh respectively during the experiment. If it is heated with diesel, a fossil fuel, the consumption during the experiment was 291 L and the cost was 331,700won. Total cost of using electric power was about 24,400 won and it is shown that it is about 7.5% of the cost of diesel consumption. Also, if the total amount of power consumption is converted into energy, it is approximately 582,200 kcal and the energy was just about 22% of the total heat value.
