This paper proposes a high efficiency three-phase cascaded phase shifted H-bridge multi-level inverter without DC/DC converters for grid-tied multi string photovoltaic (PV) applications. The cascaded H-bridge topology is suitable for PV applications since each PV module can act as a separate DC source for each cascaded H-bridge module. The proposed phase shifted H-bridge multi-level topology offers advantages such as operation at a lower switching frequency and a lower current ripple when compared to conventional two level topologies. It is also shown that low ripple sinusoidal current waveforms are generated with a unity power factor. The control algorithm permits the independent control of each DC link voltage with a maximum power point for each string of PV modules. The use of the controller area network (CAN) communication protocol for H-bridge multi-level inverters, along with localized PWM generation and PV voltage regulation are implemented. It is also shown that the expansion and modularization capabilities of the H-bridge modules are improved since the individual inverter modules operate more independently. The proposed topology is implemented for a three phase 240kW multi-level PV power conditioning system (PCS) which has 40kW H-bridge modules. The experimental results show that the proposed topology has good performance.

This paper presents a novel soft-switching PWM utility frequency AC to high frequency AC power conversion circuit incorporating boost H-bridge inverter topology, which is more suitable and acceptable for cost effective consumer induction heating applications. The operating principle and the operation modes are presented using the switch mode equivalent circuits and the operating voltage and current waveforms. The performances of this high-frequency inverter using the latest IGBTs are illustrated, which includes high frequency power regulation and actual efficiency characteristics based on zero voltage soft-switching(ZVS) operation ranges, and the power dissipation as compared with those of the conventional type high frequency inverter. In addition, a dual mode control scheme of this high frequency inverter based on asymmetrical pulse width modulation(PWM) and pulse density modulation(PDM) control scheme is discussed in this paper in order to extend the soft switching operation ranges and to improve the power conversion efficiency at the low power settings. The power converter practical effectiveness is substantially proved based on experimental results from practical design example.

This paper investigates the stability and performance of model predictive controlled active-front-end (AFE) rectifiers for energy storage systems, which has been increasingly applied in power distribution sectors and in renewable energy sources to ensure an uninterruptable power supply. The model predictive control (MPC) algorithm utilizes the discrete behavior of power converters to determine appropriate switching states by defining a cost function. The stability of the MPC algorithm is analyzed with the discrete z-domain response and the nonlinear simulation model. The results confirms that the control method of the active-front-end (AFE) rectifier is stable, and that is operates with an infinite gain margin and a very fast dynamic response. Moreover, the performance of the MPC controlled AFE rectifier is verified with a 3.0 kW experimental system. This shows that the MPC controlled AFE rectifier operates with a unity power factor, an acceptable THD (4.0 %) level for the input current and a very low DC voltage ripple. Finally, an efficiency comparison is performed between the MPC and the VOC-based PWM controllers for AFE rectifiers. This comparison demonstrates the effectiveness of the MPC controller.
In this paper, proposes a novel AC-DC converter of high power factor and high efficiency by partial resonant method. The input current waveform in proposed circuit is got to be a discontinuous sinusoidal form in proportion to magnitude of ac input voltage under the constant duty cycle switching. Thereupon, the input power factor is nearly unity and the control circuit is simple. Also the switching devices in a proposed circuit are operated with soft switching by the partial resonant method. The result is that the switching loss is very low and the efficiency of system is high. The partial resonant circuit makes use of a inductor using step up and $L^2SC$ (Loss-Less Snubber Condenser). The switching control technique of the converter is simplified for switches to drive in constant duty cycle. Some simulative results and experimental results are included to confirm the validity of the analytical results.

This paper describes to control system for AC to DC converter which has been widely used to power source in industrial factory and domestics. In this paper, three-phase PWM AC to DC Boost converter that operates with unity power factor and sinusodial input line currents is presented. The current control of this converter is based on the predicted current control strategy with fixed switching frequency and the line currents track to reference currents within one sampling time interval. By using this control strategy low ripples in the output current and the voltage as well as fast dynamic response are achieved with small dc link capacitance employed.ployed.

This paper presents a prototype of three-phase current source zero voltage soft-switching PWM controlled PFC rectifier with Single Active Auxiliary Resonant Commutated Snubber (ARCS) circuit topology. The proposed three-phase PFC rectifier with sinewave current shaping and unity power factor scheme can operate under a condition of Zero Voltage Soft Switching (ZVS) in the main three phase rectifier circuit and zero current soft switching (ZCS) in auxiliary snubber circuits. The operating principle and steady-state performances of the proposed three-phase current source soft-switching PWM controlled PFC rectifier controlled by the DSP control implementation are evaluated and discussed on the basis of the experimental results of this active rectifier setup.
Authors propose a PFC(power factor correction) Buck-Boost AC-DC converter by soft switching method. The proposed converter for a discontinuous conduction mode eliminates the complicated control requirement and reduces the size of components. The input current waveform in the converter is got to be a sinusoidal form of discontinuous pulse in proportion to magnitude of ac input voltage under the constant duty cycle switching. Therefore, the input power factor is nearly unity and the control algorithm is simple. To achieve high efficiency system, the proposed converter is constructed by using a partial resonant technique. The control switches using in the converter are operated with soft switching for a partial resonant. The control switches are operated without increasing their voltage and current stresses by the soft switching method. The result is that the switching loss is very low and the efficiency of converter is high.

These days, the application of electronic power transformers (EPTs) is expanding in place of ordinary power transformers. These transformers can transmit power via three or four wire converters. Their dynamic performance is extremely important, due to their complex structure. In this paper, a new method is proposed for improving the dynamic performance of distribution electronic power transformers (DEPT) by using sliding mode control (SMC). Hence, to express the dynamic characteristics of a system, different factors such as the voltage unbalance, voltage sag, voltage harmonics and voltage flicker in the system primary side are considered. The four controlling aims of the improvement in dynamic performance include: 1) maintaining the input currents so that they are in sinusoidal form and in phase with the input voltages so they have a unity power factor, 2) keeping the dc-link voltage within the reference amount, 3) keeping the output voltages at a fixed amount and 4) keeping the output voltages in sinusoidal and symmetrical forms. Simulation results indicate the potential and capability of the proposed method in improving DEPT behavior.
This paper presents a novel prototype of the utilityinteractive voltage source type sinewave pulse modulated power inverter using a high-frequency flyback transformer link. The proposed power conditioner circuit for the solar photovoltaic generation and small scale fuel cell has an isolation function due to the safety of the power processing system, which is more cost effective and acceptable for the small-scale distributed renewal energy conditioning and processing systems. The discontinuous current mode(DCM) of this power processing conversion circuit is applied to implement a simple circuit topology and pulse modulated control scheme. Its operation principle is described on the basis of simulation evaluations and theoretical considerations. The simulation results obtained herein prove that the proposed inverter outputs with sinusoidal waveforms and unity power factor currents are synchronized to the main voltage in utility power source grid. In this paper, the soft switching topology of highfrequency linked sinewave pulse modulation inverter is proposed and discussed.

In this paper, a new current based maximum power point tracking (CMPPT) method is proposed for a single phase photovoltaic power conditioning system and the current based MPPT modifies incremental conductance method. The current based MPPT method makes the entire control structure of the power conditioning system simple and uses an inherent current source characteristic of solar cell array. In addition, digital phase locked loop using an all pass filter is introduced to detect phase of grid voltage as well as peak voltage. Controllers about dc/dc boost converter, dc-link voltage, dc/ac inverter is designed for a coordinated operation. Furthermore, PI current control using a pseudo synchronous d-q transformation is employed for grid current control with unity power factor. 3kW prototype photovoltaic power conditioning system is built and its experimental results are given to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control schemes.
