A design of a lowpass filter using Quad-Spiral Defected Ground Structure (Quad-Spiral Defected Ground Structure를 이용한 저역통과 여파기 설계)

  • A new structure to design low pass filters (LPFs) is presented rho proposed structure has the etched shape of Quad-Spiral DGS(Defected Ground Structure) on microstrip transmission lines. By extracting the equivalent circuit elements of unit Quad-Spiral DGS, LPFs are designed easily. The equivalent circuit of Quad-Spiral DGS consists of a step impedance resonator and lumped elements. The proposed LPF provided steep rejection characteristics with 5-poles. Experimental results show excellent agreements with circuit simulation results in wide band and the validity of our circuit modeling for LPF design. The result shows another possibility of Quad Spiral DGS for microwave devices.

Tunable Bandpass Filter with Varactors Based on the CRLH-TL Metamaterial Structure

  • This paper presents a tunable bandpass filter based on the varactor-loaded composite right- and left-handed transmission line (CRLH-TL). The proposed filter is composed of one CRLH-TL unit cell, which corresponds to the third-order bandpass filter. The tunable bandpass filter is designed using only lumped-elements. The use of lumped elements saves space and lowers the fabrication cost. The size of the proposed tunable bandpass filter is $17mm{\times}5mm$, neglecting the feed lines and DC lines. All of the varactors are controlled by one DC bias. The center frequency of the bandpass filter can be controlled by varying the value of the varactors. The tunable range of the center frequency is from 412.5 to 670 MHz. The insertion loss is less than 3 dB, the return loss is more than 10 dB in the passband.

  • Vogiouklis introduced $H_v$-hyperstructures and gave the "open problem: for $H_v$-groups, we have ${\beta}^*={\beta}^{\prime\prime}$. We have an affirmative result about this open problem for some special cases. We study ${\beta}$ relations on $H_v$-quasigroups. When a set H has at least three elements and (H, ${\cdot}$) is an $H_v$-quasigroup with a weak scalar e, if there are elements $x,y{\in}H$ such that xy = H \ {e}, then we have (xy)(xy) = H.

The Tectonic Characteristics of ′KAN′ in the head residence of Uisong Kims (의성 김씨종택에 있어서 간의 건축적 특성)

  • The purpose of this study is to explain the tectonic characteristics of 'Kan' which is an unit of composition in the head residence of Uisong Kims. Here, the 'Kan' is assumed as a conceptual framework to organize a house and also a maneuvering tool to control the spatial order with relationship between the whole and the part. Not limited to the simple conceptual aspects, but the interrelated elements such as the site conditions, modules, functions, structure and aesthetic factors. Through the process of the study, the role of 'Kan' is proved to be a tectonic tool for self-regulating architectural order by relation matrix of elements. 'Kan' is not only a fixed measuring tool for functions and material of a house but also a flexible device to control the building composition. 'Kan' is certainly a relative subject for measurement of form, space and aesthetic quality.

Implementation and Performance Evaluation of Vector based Rasterization Algorithm using a Many-Core Processor (매니코어 프로세서를 이용한 벡터 기반 래스터화 알고리즘 구현 및 성능평가)

  • In this paper, we implemented and evaluated the performance of a vector-based rasterization algorithm of 3D graphics using a SIMD-based many-core processor that consists of 4,096 processing elements. In addition, we compared the performance and efficiency of the rasterization algorithm using the many-core processor and commercial GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) system which consists of 7 GPUs and each of which have 512 cores. Experimental results showed that the SIMD-based many-core processor outperforms the commercial GPU system in terms of execution time (3.13x speedup), energy efficiency (17.5x better), and area efficiency (13.3x better). These results demonstrate that the SIMD-based many-core processor has potential as an embedded mobile processor.

  • An approach for predicting the effective thermal conductivities of fiber-reinforce composite has been developed based on a thermal-electrical analogy. The unit cell of the composite laminate is divided into regular volume elements and the material properties have been given to each element. By constructing the series-parallel thermal resistance network, the thermal conductivities of composite both in-plane and out-of-plane direction have been predicted. Graphite/Epoxy composite is used for a balanced plain-weave composite laminate. By comparing the predicted results and the previous works, good agreement has been found.

  • There are an electronic and a manual type in Bidet. The electronic bidet has some advantages. it supplies multiple functions and is up easily. However, it has frequent defects and a high price. The manual bidet is not need to supply electric and is cheaper than the electronic type. However, it is needed to supply hot water and is hard to set up. In order to solve these defects, this study designed a bidet heating unit using an electric instantaneous water heating method. To get a proper heating elements, experiments were performed about a Ni-Cr heater and a film heater.

  • This study considers a linear connected-(r,s)-out-of-(m,n):F lattice system whose components are ordered like the elements of a linear (m,n )-matrix. We assume that all components are in the state 1 (operating) or 0 (failed) and identical and s-independent. The system fails whenever at least one connected (r,s)-submatrix of failed components occurs. The purpose of this paper is to present an optimization scheme that aims at minimizing the expected cost per unit time. To find the optimal threshold of maintenance intervention, we use a genetic algorithm for the cost optimization procedure. The expected cost per unit time is obtained by Monte Carlo simulation. The sensitivity analysis to the different cost parameters has also been made.

A Comparison of Shortening and Shortening Speed in Sartorius, Gastrocnemius and Rectus Abdominis Muscles of Uromastix hardwickii

  • A new method is used to record the actual shortening produced during the auxotonic activity of the sartorius (SAR), gastrocnemius (CAS) and rectus abdominis (RAB) muscles of a lizard Uromastix. The auxotonic twitch and tetanus records thus obtained were used for the first time to calculate the coefficient of linear shortening (COLS). This coefficient represent the relative Index between change in length $(\Delta\;L=L_0-L_1)$ and tension $({\Delta}P\;P_0-P_1)$ due to shortening at the steepest rising phase of the twitch and tetanus, recorded at resting length. In addition to this, maximum shortening $(S_{max})$ and auxotonic tensions were also determined at resting lengths of these muscles. The COLS was found to express the speed of shortening and auxotonic tensions are suggested to be of value to express the internal architecture of SAR, GAS & RAB muscles. The results are discussed in terms of contractile and elastic elements of the muscles alongwith the importance of shortening at resting lengths in skeletal muscles.

Single-phase Uninterruptible Power Supply employing Superconducting Magnet Energy Storage Unit

  • A single-phase uninterruptible power supply system equipped with a superconducting magnet energy storage unit is proposed to achieve a simple circuit configuration and higher system reliability. It reduces a number of switching devices by applying a common-arm scheme. Removing some switches or substituting passive elements for active switches can increase the sophistication and reduces degree of freedom in control strategy. However, high-performance DSP controller can execute the complicated control task with no additional cost. Operational principles to normal, stored-energy, and bypass mode are discussed in detail. The validity of the proposed system is verified by experimental results.
