High-temperature superconducting joints between 61 filaments of Bi-2223 tapes were fabricated by chem-ical corrosion and repeated thermomechanical process. The silver sheath of the superconducting tape was chemically removed using chemical etchant(NH4OH:H2O2=1:1) from one side of each tape without altering the form of lap joint. The joined region was formed by uniaxial pressing and a series of thermomechanical process and then subjected to properties measurement and microstructural analysis. The critical current(Ic) variation and I-V characteristics along the joint were mesured with several configuration of proble points. Ic value of the transition region of the joint inthe multifilament tape which limit the total current carring capacity of the superconducting tape was higher than that of monofilament tape. But the transition ex-ponent n-value of the multi-filament tape was lower than that of monofilament wire due to the interaction of the individual superconducting core of the multi-filament. The critical current through the joint area was improved by respeated press and reaction annealing treatment.

Currently, abundant wastes from the palm oil refining process have been generated which are hard to handle. Spent Bleaching Earth (SBE) is the solid waste from this process and leads the cost of elimination to the company. This study aims to utilize the SBE as the alternative material in the non-fired wall tiles. The main raw materials used in non-fired wall tiles consist of laterite soil, fluvial sand, and Portland cement. The experimental formulas have been conducted and divided into 3 groups by varying the percentage of the SBE in main raw materials. The specimens of material mixture have been produced by uniaxial pressing at 100 bars, dimensions in $50{\times}100{\times}8mm$. These specimens are sprayed with water and cured in the air for 7 days. After that, bending strength and water absorption test of these specimens has been performed. It can be concluded that the best formula with the percentage of laterite soil, fluvial sand, Portland cement, and SBE are 60.94%, 13.125%, 22.5%, and 3.435%, respectively. Its bending strength and %water absorption are 0.68 MPa and 5.64%. Material costs of specimen are approximately $0.00276 USD/100g. Furthermore, the comparison of curing period between 7 days and 30 days has been performed. The 30 days of curing period can improve the bending strength of the specimen, but there is no effect on water absorption.

The SiC-$ZrB_2$ composites were produced by subjecting a 40:60 vol.% mixture of zirconium diboride($ZrB_2$) powder and ${\beta}$-silicon carbide (SiC) matrix to spark plasma sintering(SPS). Sintering was carried out for 60sec at $1400^{\circ}C$ (designation as TP145 and TP146), $1500^{\circ}C$(designation as TP155 and TP156) and uniaxial pressure 50MPa, 60MP under argon atmosphere. The physical, electrical, and mechanical properties of the SiC-$ZrB_2$ composites were examined. The relative density of TP145, TP146, TP155 and TP156 were 94.75%, 94.13%, 97.88% and 95.80%, respectively. Reactions between ${\beeta}$-SiC and $ZrB_2$ were not observed via x-ray diffraction (hereafter, XRD) analysis. The flexural strength, 306.23MPa of TP156 was higher than that, 279.42MPa of TP146 at room temperature, but lower than that, 392.30MPa of TP155. The properties of a SiC-$ZrB_2$ composites through SPS under argon atmosphere were positive temperature coefficient resistance (hereafter, PTCR) in the range from $25^{\circ}C$ to $500^{\circ}C$. The electrical resistivities of TP145, TP146, TP155 and TP156 were $6.75{\times}10^{-4}$, $7.22{\times}10^{-4}$, $6.17{\times}10^{-4}$ and $6.71{\times}10^{-4}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ at $25^{\circ}C$, respectively. The densification of a SiC-$ZrB_2$ composite through hot pressing depend on the sintering temperature and pressure. However, it is convinced that the densification of a SiC-$ZrB_2$ composite do not depend on sintering pressure under SPS.

The effects of compaction methods on the sintering density, microstructures, and mechanical properties were investigated in ${\alpha}-alumina$ ceramics. ${\alpha}-Alumina$ powders were granulated with a 10% aqueous solution of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). Uniaxially pressed (UAP) and cold isostatic-pressed (CIP) samples were prepared by pressing uniaxially at a pressure of 1 ton for 1 min, and isostatically at 200 MPa for 15 min, respectively. Subsequently, both types of samples were sintered at $1,200^{\circ}C$, $1,300^{\circ}C$, $1,400^{\circ}C$, $1,450^{\circ}C$, $1,500^{\circ}C$, $1,550^{\circ}C$, and $1,600^{\circ}C$ at a rate of $5^{\circ}C/min$ for 2 h. The CIP samples were better than the UAP samples for all properties measured, such as the sintering density, Vicker's hardness, and toughness. The CIP sample sintered at $1,400^{\circ}C$ showed the maximum Vicker's hardness and toughness; this may be attributed to the competing effects of a decrease in porosity and the growth of grains with increasing sintering temperature.
A series of experiment was conducted to evaluate basic performances of low-pH, anti-washing grouts incorporating gypsum which applied for reinforcing underwater cavities in limestone- grounds. Various types of mix proportions were designed and the fluidity, strength and environmental impact of these mixtures were evaluated. The flowability was evaluated under two conditions, i.e., flows without and with pressing, respectively. Strength was measured for the hardened mixtures fabricated under conditions of air and water injections. The environmental impacts including the pH of the suspension and the suspended solids concentration for the mixtures were evaluated. The low pH of fresh mixture suspension, below than 10, was achieved by incorporation of gypsum. The mix proportions of cement-quartz powder-gypsum binders and chemical agents resulted in mortar natural flow 7-10 cm and uniaxial compressive strength 4 MPa were derived.
In this research, $5\times5cm^2$ unit cells were fabricated via liquid condensation process and uniaxial pressing followed by the screen printing of electrolyte and cathode layer. The SOFC stack was assembled with unit cells, gasket-type sealant and metal interconnect. The stack was designed to have a single column with internal-manifold and cross-flow type gas-channels. The SOFC stack produced 15 W, which is $50\%$ of the maximum power being expected from the maximum power density of the unit cell. Controlling factors for the proper operation of the SOFC stack and other designing factors of stack manifold and gas channels were discussed.

Nanostructured high strength metastable Al-, Mg- and Ti-based alloys containing different amorphous, quasicrystalline and nanocrystalline phases are synthesized by non-equilibrium processing techniques. Such alloys can be prepared by quenching from the melt or by powder metallurgy techniques. This paper focuses on one hand on mechanically alloyed and ball milled powders containing different volume fractions of amorphous or nano-(quasi)crystalline phases, consolidated bulk specimens and, on the other hand. on cast specimens containing different constituent phases with different length-scale. As one example. $Mg_{55}Y_{15}Cu_{30}$- based metallic glass matrix composites are produced by mechanical alloying of elemental powder mixtures containing up to 30 vol.% $Y_2O_3$ particles. The comparison with the particle-free metallic glass reveals that the nanosized second phase oxide particles do not significantly affect the glass-forming ability upon mechanical alloying despite some limited particle dissolution. A supercooled liquid region with an extension of about 50 K can be maintained in the presence of the oxides. The distinct viscosity decrease in the supercooled liquid regime allows to consolidate the powders into bulk samples by uniaxial hot pressing. The $Y_2O_3$ additions increase the mechanical strength of the composites compared to the $Mg_{55}Y_{15}Cu_{30}$ metallic glass. The second example deals with Al-Mn-Ce and Al-Cu-Fe composites with quasicrystalline particles as reinforcements, which are prepared by quenching from the melt and by powder metallurgy. $Al_{98-x}Mn_xCe_2$ (x =5,6,7) melt-spun ribbons containing a major quasicrystalline phase coexisting with an Al-matrix on a nanometer scale are pulverized by ball milling. The powders are consolidated by hot extrusion. Grain growth during consolidation causes the formation of a micrometer-scale microstructure. Mechanical alloying of $Al_{63}Cu_{25}Fe_{12}$ leads to single-phase quasicrystalline powders. which are blended with different volume fractions of pure Al-powder and hot extruded forming $Al_{100-x}$$(Al_{0.63}Cu_{0.25}Fe_{0.12})_x$ (x = 40,50,60,80) micrometer-scale composites. Compression test data reveal a high yield strength of ${\sigma}_y{\geq}$700 MPa and a ductility of ${\varepsilon}_{pl}{\geq}$5% for than the Al-Mn-Ce bulk samples. The strength level of the Al-Cu-Fe alloys is ${\sigma}_y{\leq}$550 MPa significantly lower. By the addition of different amounts of aluminum, the mechanical properties can be tuned to a wide range. Finally, a bulk metallic glass-forming Ti-Cu-Ni-Sn alloy with in situ formed composite microstructure prepared by both centrifugal and injection casting presents more than 6% plastic strain under compressive stress at room temperature. The in situ formed composite contains dendritic hcp Ti solid solution precipitates and a few $Ti_3Sn,\;{\beta}$-(Cu, Sn) grains dispersed in a glassy matrix. The composite micro- structure can avoid the development of the highly localized shear bands typical for the room temperature defor-mation of monolithic glasses. Instead, widely developed shear bands with evident protuberance are observed. resulting in significant yielding and homogeneous plastic deformation over the entire sample.

Zirconia and titanium alloys, which are mainly used for dental implant materials, have poor osseointegration and osteogenesis abilities due to their bioinertness with low bioactivity on surface. In order to improve their surface bioinertness, surface modification with a bioactive material is an easy and simple method. In this study, akermanite (Ca2MgSi2O7), a silicate-based bioceramic material with excellent bone bonding ability, was synthesized by a solid-state reaction and investigated its bioactivity from the analysis of surface dissolution and precipitation of hydroxyapatite particles in SBF solution. Calcium carbonate (CaCO3), magnesium carbonate (MgCO3), and silicon dioxide (SiO2) were used as starting materials. After homogeneous mixing of starting materials by ball milling and the drying of at oven, uniaxial pressing was performed to form a compacted disk, and then heat-treated at high temperature to induce the solid-state reaction to akermanite. Bioactivity of synthesized akermanite disk was evaluated with the reaction temperature from the immersion test in SBF solution. The higher the reaction temperature, the more pronounced the akermanite phase and the less the surface dissolution at particle surface. It resulted that synthesized akermanite particles had high bioactivity on particle surface, but it depended on reacted temperature and phase composition. Moderate dissolution occurred at particle surfaces and observed the new precipitated hydroxyapatite particles in synthetic akermanite with solid-state reaction at 1100℃.
