Influencing factors for abrasive flow rate and abrasive flow quality of abrasive injection waterjet systems for tunnel excavation (터널굴착용 투입형 연마재 워터젯 시스템의 연마재 투입량과 유동성에 미치는 영향 인자)

  • A new rock excavation method using an abrasive waterjet system is under development for efficiently creating tunnels and underground spaces in urban areas. In addition, an appropriate abrasive flow rate and abrasive flow quality are important for the new rock excavation (cutting) method using an abrasive waterjet system. This study evaluated the factors influencing the abrasive flow rate and abrasive flow quality, specifically the abrasive pipe height, length, tortuosity and inner diameter, through experimental tests. Based on the experimental test results, this study suggested optimal conditions for the abrasive flow rate and abrasive flow quality. The experimental results can be effectively utilized as baseline data for rock excavation methods using an abrasive waterjet system in various construction locations such as tunnels near urban surroundings, utility tunnels, and shafts.

Bearing Capacity Determination Method for Spreading Footings Located above Underground Cavities (지하공동위에 위치한 확대기초지 지지력 산정 기법)

  • This paper presents a bearing capacity determination method for spread footings subjected to vertical central loading and located above underground cavities. For the development of the method, a parametric study on bearing capacity of a spread footing located above an underground cavity was performed by using a threetimensional elasto-plastic finite element computer program. From the results of the finite element analysis, bearing capacity values for the conditions analyzed were determined and used as a data base from which semiempirical equation to for the bearing capacity determination method were formulated by means of a regression analysis. The effectiveness of this method was illustrated by comparing the bearing capacity values computed from this method with those of available model footing tests as well as finite element analysis data. It was concluded that the method presented in this paper can be effectively used for practical applications at least within the conditions investigated.

  • Rapid economic development and urban population growth have been increasing the necessity for underground space exploration and utilization due to the need of upgrading and expanding the existing infrastructures. TBM has been widely used to construct underground structures with high advance rate and minimal ground disturbance. Two important design parameters, which are available thrust capacity and cutterhead torque, should be estimated for any project in addition to proper selection of TBM type. However, the conventional thrust force and torque estimation model only depends on the empirical equation, which hinders the design process of the optimal thrust hydraulic system and the appropriate hydraulic components. In this study, four thrust and torque calculation models are derived and explained. For TBM design practice, the four estimation models are compared and discussed.

  • Water management is the most important and difficult problems in crop cultivation. The farmers are doing irrigation, those when to irrigate and how much to irrigate, depending on their experiences. The irrigation manual as water saving is possible, those irrigation interval and amount of irrigation, are developed based on the lysimeter experiments carried out by the RDA for 11 years about potential evapotranspiration, crop coefficient. The manual can be used with easy to the farmer without soil sampling and any kinds of sensors measuring soil water status.

  • The environments in current farming and fishing communities have been exacerbated by the shortage of personnel caused by aging, the deficiency of equipment, and the decrease in produce prices. To help solve these issues, this study examined the history, such as inspections, failures, and repairs, by constructing a database for underground water wells, pumping stations, and irrigation, which are critical for management among agriculture production infrastructures. In particular, in the case of underground water wells, their optimal locations were determined using spatial information, such as a geological map of water resources, a water vein map, and underwater depth, because indiscreet installations and an absence of spatial information resulted in economic losses and environmental pollution. Therefore, this study could efficiently manage many facilities scattered in rural areas by developing a system. An analysis of the status of 14 underground water wells using spatial information showed that the location information at six points was specified incorrectly. On the other hand, a site investigation showed that the water vein map analysis at one point was inaccurate.

  • The traffic congestion is frequently occurring due to increasing demand for vehicles and development of subcenter in roads of domestic-downtown. The design of a Great depth underground double-deck tunnel planned for construction as a solution however it's mainly for a compact-car. Its low height and small section cause causalities when fire occurs. From this study, the delay system for fire smoke diffusion is developed to minimize the occurrence of casualties when fire occurs in the Great depth underground double-deck tunnel and the CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics) is used to find the optimal installation interval and the blockage ratio to maximize the system effects. The study analyzed the shorter the installation interval of the system, the higher the smoke delay effect but the efficiency-change tends to be slight above a certain distance and the larger the blockage ratio, the higher the effect but the efficiency-difference is slight according to installation interval.

  • The high pressure underground pipelines of industrial states such as Ulsan, Yeosu consist with not only the pipelines for the utility support such as Raw material of petrochemical industry and steam, but also high pressure pipelines of toxic, flammable gas intricately like a web. Therefore, in this study, based on in-depth comparison analysis of industrial estate pipelines, and underground city gas pipelines' safety management status, excavation frequency, excavation depth, patrol period which are pipe damage impact factor by the other construction are analyzed. And, as a result, risk changes and correlations due to risk reduction strategy of the other construction are compared to be presented the safety inspection operation model for the high pressure underground pipelines of industrial estates.

Development of AI Detection Model based on CCTV Image for Underground Utility Tunnel (지하공동구의 CCTV 영상 기반 AI 연기 감지 모델 개발)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to develope smoke detection using AI model for detecting the initial fire in underground utility tunnels using CCTV Method: To improve detection performance of smoke which is high irregular, a deep learning model for fire detection was trained to optimize smoke detection. Also, several approaches such as dataset cleansing and gradient exploding release were applied to enhance model, and compared with results of those. Result: Results show the proposed approaches can improve the model performance, and the final model has good prediction capability according to several indexes such as mAP. However, the final model has low false negative but high false positive capacities. Conclusion: The present model can apply to smoke detection in underground utility tunnel, fixing the defect by linking between the model and the utility tunnel control system.

  • Most tunnel damage such as cracks or leakage which exist in tunnel liner commonly, is caused by the cavities that exist behind the tunnel liner, through the tunnel safety inspections. These cavities were analysed to check if they affect the stability of tunnels. This study is on the development of the controlled low-strength and flowable filling material which an be applied to the cavity behind the tunnel lining. The backfilling material studied here is crushed sand and stone-dust which is in cake-state and is a by-product obtained in the producing process of aggregate. Varying the compound mixing ratio, laboratory tests of compression test and chemical analyses were carried out. In addition, the material was applied to an old tunnel for the performance assessment.

  • GIS is the system that has ability of integrating, managing, and analyzing the voluminous graphic and text data, which is adequate system to manage complex network of the underground utilities of urban area. A development of gas line safety management system is accomplished to construct a database of gas line network and topographic data, create safety managing model, and estimate openly its safety by GIS. This system is designed to evaluate easily the damaged facilities in case of gas line explosion by the establishment of the geographic output system. It is designed to trace and present efficiently closed valves and interrupted facilities of gas when gas line breakage occurs, and offer the information by which one can take quickly emergency. And also, it is constructed to prevent from accident occurring under construction work by showing underground utilities and states of work.
