  • Investigations on the behavior of steel fiber reinforced high strength concrete beams with shear confinement are accomplished to determine their ultimate shear strength including diagonal tension strength. The parameters varied were the shear confinement ratio(Ps), and fiber volume fraction(Vs). Ultimate shear strength increased significantly in steel fiber reinforced concrete beam without shear confinement. In steel- fiber reinforced high strength concrete beams with shear confinement, there is no increase of ultimate shear strength but shows much beneficial effects of Ductility Capacity.

  • The traditional prestressed concrete composite box-girders with corrugated steel webs have several drawbacks such as large deflection and potential local buckling. In this study, two methods were investigated to optimize and improve the prestressed concrete composite box-girders with corrugated steel webs. The first method was to replace the concrete bottom slab with a steel plate and the second method was to support the concrete bottom slab on the steel flanges. The behavior of the prestressed concrete composite box-girders with corrugated steel webs with either method was studied by experiments on three specimens. The test results showed that behavior of the optimized and upgraded prestressed concrete composite box-girders with corrugated steel webs, including ultimate bearing capacity, flexural stiffness, and crack resistance, is greatly improved. In addition, the influence of different shear connectors, including perfobond leisten (PBL) and stud shear connectors, on the behavior of prestressed concrete composite box-girders with corrugated steel webs was studied. The results showed that PBL shear connectors can greatly improve the ultimate bearing capacity, flexural stiffness and crack resistance property of the prestressed concrete composite box-girders with corrugated steel webs. However, for the efficiency of prestressing introduced into the girder, the PBL shear connectors do not perform as well as the stud shear connectors.

  • In this paper, an experimental study have been many studies on the propriety of block shear design code. according to limited state design criteria of steel structures recently established in Korea, by an experiment on the joint of H-Beam Flange tension members. The objects of this study were to compare with the results of other studies on block shear rupture mode and ultimate capacity, and to evaluate the propriety of the design criteria. The result is that the joint happened, two types, tension yield-shear ruptures and shear yield-tension ruptures, and the experimental rupture load was 23% higher than the capacity entered in the criteria design code In this criteria, it was found that ultimate strength of block shear of H-Beam Flange was lowly estimated. Therefore, we emphasize the need of estimates on the block shear rupture by carrying out many studies in this field.

  • 12 RC deep beams with a/d = 1.17 are reported. This paper is to study the effect of vertical and horizontal web reinforcement and web reinforcement arrangement on inclined cracking shear, ultimate shear strength, midspan deflection, and inclined crack width. Test results indicated that web reinforcement produces and arrangement seems to moderately affect inclined cracking shear, ultimate shear strength and crack width. However, addition of horizontal web reinforcement(pv = 0.0085) little or no influence on inclined cracking shear, ultimate shear strength and crack width. The member which vertical and horizontal web reinforcement concentrate on the center web considerably increases in load-carrying capacity.

  • Estimation of deformation capacity of non-flexural reinforced concrete members is proposed using basic concepts of limit analysis and the virtual work method. This new approach starts with construction of admissible stress field as for an equilibrium set. Failure mechanisms compatible with admissible stress fields are postulated as for displacement set. It is assumed that the ultimate deformations as result of failure mechanisms are controlled by ultimate strain of concrete in compression. The derived formula for deformability of deep beams in shear shows reasonable range of ultimate displacement.

  • This study is to investigate the ultimate shear load of prestressed girder made of Ultra High Performance Fiber Reinforced Concrete (UHPFRC). Nine girders were tested until failure in shear. An analytical model to predict the ultimate shear load was formulated based on the Two Bounds Theory. A fiber reinforcing model was constituted based on the random assumption of steel fiber uniform distribution. The predicted values were compared with the conventional predictions and the test results. The proposed equations for computing the ultimate shear strength can be used for the ultimate failure status analysis, which could also be utilized for numerical limit analysis of prestressed UHPFRC girder. The established fiber reinforcing theoretical model can also be a reference for micro-mechanics analysis of UHPFRC.

  • The purpose of this experimental study is to investigate the damage mechanism due to shear-fatigue behavior of high-strength reinforced concrete beams under repeated loading. The relationship between the number of cycles and the deflection or strain, the crack growths and modes of failure with the increase of number of cycles, fatigue strength, and S-N curve were observed through a fatigue test. Based on the fatigue test results, high-strength reinforced concrete beams failed at 57-66 percent of static ultimate strength for 2 million cycles. The fatigue strength at 2 million cycles from S-N curves was shown as about 60 percent of static ultimate strength. Compared to normal-strength reinforced concrete beams, fatigue capacity of high-strength reinforced concrete beams was similar to or lower than fatigue capacity of normal-strength reinforced concrete beams. Fatigue capacity of normal-strength reinforced concrete beams improved by over 60 percent.

  • This paper experimentally and analytically elucidates the shear behavior and shear bearing capacity of partially prefabricated steel reinforced concrete (PPSRC) columns and hollow partially prefabricated steel reinforced concrete (HPSRC) columns. Seven specimens including five PPSRC column specimens and two HPSRC column specimens were tested under static monotonic loading. In the test, the influences of shear span aspect ratio and difference of cast-in-place concrete strength on the shear behavior of PPSRC and HPSRC columns were investigated. Based on the test results, the failure pattern, the load-displacement behavior and the shear capacity were focused and analyzed. The test results demonstrated that all the column specimens failed in shear failure mode with high bearing capacity and good deformability. Smaller shear span aspect ratio and higher strength of inner concrete resulted in higher shear bearing capacity, with more ductile and better deformability. Furthermore, calculation formula for predicting the ultimate shear capacity of the PPSRC and HPSRC columns were proposed on the basis of the experimental results.

  • This paper is an experimental study on shear capacity of the high strength lightweight reinforced concrete beams with shear-depth ratio between 1.5 and 2.5. Thirteen T & rectangular beams were tested to determine their diagonal cracking and ultimate shear capacity. The major variables are shear span-depth ratio (a/d=1.5, 2.0, 2.5), concrete compressive strength(f'c=210, 24., 270㎏/㎠) and tensile steel ratio( =0.6, 1.2%). Based on results obtained from experiment of high strength lightweight reinforced concrete Beam & normal concrete, the following conclusions were drawn. (1) The shear capacity of high-strength lightweight concrete is less 15% than that of normal concrete under same condition. (2) As the results of Comparing this experimental datas with other various formulas. It is regarded that ACI 318-89 shear strength formula related tensile strength is proper to design formula of shear strength of high-strength lightweight reinforced concrete using lightweight concrete.

  • An artificial neural network is a computational model that mimics the biological system of the brain and it consists of a number of interconnected processing units where it can reasonably infer by them. Because the neural network is particularly useful for evaluating systems with a multitude of nonlinear variables, it can be used in experimental results predictions, in structural planning and in optimum design of structures. This paper describes the basic theory related to the neural networks and discusses the applicability of neural networks to predict the ultimate shear capacity of the precast concrete vertical joints by comparing the neural networks with a conventional method such as regression.
