In GPS Positioning, the error of satellite orbit will affect user's position accuracy directly, it is important to determine the satellite orbit precise. The real-time orbit is needed in kinematic GPS positioning, the precise GPS orbit from IGS would be delayed long time, so orbit prediction is key to real-time kinematic positioning. We analyze the GPS predicted ephemeris, on the base of comparison of EKF and UKF, a new orbit prediction method is put forward based on UKF in this paper, the result shows that UKF improves the orbit predicted precision and stability. It offers a new method for others satellites orbit determination as Galileo, and so on.

RLG(Ring Laser Gyroscope) is a main device of LINS(Laser Inertial Navigation System). RLG has the lock-in region in which there is no output signal. To alleviate the lock-in problem, a mechanical oscillation, the dither motion, is applied on RLG. A LPF(Low Pass Filter) is usually used on the output of RLG and accelerometer to remove the noise that is made by the dither motion. When the LINS is induced the disturbance during the initial alignment, it takes more time on alignment due to the use of the LPF and a fixed gain controller. In this paper, an initial alignment using UKF(Unscented Kalman Filter) is designed and analysed. Analysis include comparison between conventional initial alignment loop using fixed gain type controller and proposed initial alignment using UKF. Moreover, Disturbance inducing test results are demonstrated.

In this paper, a passive telemetry sensor system using Unscented Kalman Filter(UKF) is proposed. Specially, to show the effective tracking performance of the UKF, we compared with the tracking performance of Recursive Least Square Estimation (RLSE) using linearization.

The Unscented Kalman Filter is known to outperform the Extended Kalman Filter for the nonlinear state estimation with a significance advantage that it does not require the computation of Jacobian but EKF has a competitive advantage to the UKF on the performance time. We compare both algorithms on training the artificial neural network. The validation data set is used to estimate parameters which are supposed to result in better fitting for the test data set. Experimental results are presented which indicate the performance of both algorithms.

Satellite formation flying can provide the platform for interferometric observation to acquire the precise data and ensure the flexibility for space mission. This paper presents development and verification of an algorithm to estimate the baseline between formation flying satellites. To estimate a baseline(relative navigation) in real time, EKF(Extended Kalman Filter) and UKF(Unscented Kalman Filter) are used. Measurements for updating a state-vector in Kalman Filter are GPS single difference data. In results, The position errors in estimated baseline are converged to less than ${\pm}1m$ in both EKF and UKF. And as using the two types of Kalman filter, it is clear that the unscented Kalman filter shows a relatively better performance than the extended Kalman filter by comparing an efficiency to the model which has a non-linearity.

The UKF algorithm for tracking moving objects has fast convergence speed and good tracking performance without the derivative computation. However, this algorithm has serious drawbacks which limit its use in conditions such as Gaussian noise distribution. Meanwhile, the particle filter(PF) is a state estimation method applied to nonlinear and non-Gaussian systems without these limitations. But this method also has some disadvantages such as computation increase as the number of particles rises. In this paper, we propose the Unscented Particle Filter (UPF) algorithm which combines Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF) and Particle Filter (PF) in order to overcome these drawbacks. The performance of the UPF algorithm was tested to compare with Particle Filter using a 2-DOF (Degree of Freedom) Pendulum System. The results show that the proposed algorithm is more suitable to the nonlinear and non-Gaussian state estimation compared with PF.
In this paper, we study target tracking in two dimensional space using a Extended Kalman filter(EKF), various Extended Kalman Filter and Cost-Reference Particle Filter(CRPF), which can effectively estimate the state values of nonlinear measurement equation. We introduce various Extended Kalman Filter which the Unscented Kalman Filter(UKF), the Central Difference Kalman Filter(CDKF), the Square Root Unscented Kalman Filter(SR-UKF), and the Central Difference Kalman Filter(SR-CDKF). In this study, we calculate Mean Square Error(MSE) of each filters using Monte-Carlo simulation with unknown noise statistics. Simulation results show that among the various of Extended Kalman filter, Square Root Central Difference Kalman Filter has the best results in terms of speed and performance. And, the Cost-Reference Particle Filter has an advantageous feature that it does not need to know the noise distribution differently from Extended Kalman Filter, and the simulation result shows that the excellent in term of processing speed and accuracy.

The paper describes an application of unscented Kalman filter(UKF) for attitude estimation of an unmanned vehicle(UV), which is equipped with a low-cost attitude heading reference system (AHRS). The roll, pitch and yaw required at the correction stage of the UKF are calculated from the measurements of acceleration and geomagnetic field. The roll and pitch are attributed to the measurement of acceleration, while yaw is calculated from the geomagnetic field measurement. Since the measurement of geomagnetic field is vulnerable to distortion by hard-iron and soft-iron effects, the calculated yaw has more uncertainty than the calculated roll and pitch. To reduce the uncertainty of geomagnetic field measurement, the proposed method estimates bias in the geomagnetic field measurement and compensates for the bias for more accurate calculation of yaw. The proposed method is verified through navigation experiments of a UV in a test pool. The results show that the proposed method yields more accurate attitude estimation; thus, it results more accurate location estimation.
The parameters of civil engineering structures have time-variant characteristics during their service. When extremely large external excitations, such as earthquake excitation to buildings or overweight vehicles to bridges, apply to structures, sudden or gradual damage may be caused. It is crucially necessary to detect the occurrence time and severity of the damage. The unscented Kalman filter (UKF), as one efficient estimator, is usually used to conduct the recursive identification of parameters. However, the conventional UKF algorithm has a weak tracking ability for time-variant structural parameters. To improve the identification ability of time-variant parameters, an adaptive UKF with forgetting factor (AUKF-FF) algorithm, in which the state covariance, innovation covariance and cross covariance are updated simultaneously with the help of the forgetting factor, is proposed. To verify the effectiveness of the method, this paper conducted two case studies as follows: the identification of time-variant parameters of a simply supported bridge when the vehicle passing, and the model updating of a six-story concrete frame structure with field test during the Yangbi earthquake excitation in Yunnan Province, China. The comparison results of the numerical studies show that the proposed method is superior to the conventional UKF algorithm for the time-variant parameter identification in convergence speed, accuracy and adaptability to the sampling frequency. The field test studies demonstrate that the proposed method can provide suggestions for solving practical problems.

An Unscented Kalman Filter(UKF) for estimation of attitude and rate of a spacecraft using only magnetometer vector measurement is presented. The dynamics used in the filter is nonlinear rotational equation which is augmented by the quaternion kinematics to construct a process model. The filter is designed for low Earth orbit satellite, so the disturbance torques include gravity-gradient torque, magnetic disturbance torque, and aerodynamic drag. The magnetometer measurements are simulated based on time-varying position of the spacecraft. The filter has been tested not only in the standby mode but also in the detumbling mode. To stabilize the attitude, linear PD controller is applied and the actuator is assumed to be thruster. A Monte-Carlo simulation has been done to guarantee the stability of the filter performance to the various initial conditions. The UKF performance is compared to that of EKF and it reveals that UKF outperforms EKF.
