  • Ubiquitous computing called pervasive one is based on the thought of pervading ability of computation in daily life applications. In other words, it aims to include computation in devices such as electronic equipment and automobiles. This has led to disengagement of computers from desktop form. Accordingly, the notice in ubiquitous computing being taken of a world steeped in remote and wireless computer-based-services. Handheld and wearable programmed devices such as sense and control appliances are such devices. This advancement is rapidly moving domestic tasks and life from device-and-human communication to the device-and-device model. This model called Machine to Machine (M2M) has led to acceleration of developments in sciences such as nano-science, bio-science, and information science. As a result, M2M led to appearance of applications in various fields such as, environment monitoring, agricultural, health care, logistics, and business. Since it is envisaged that M2M communications will play a big role in the future in all wireless applications and will be emerged as a progressive linkage for next-generation communications, this paper aims to consider how much M2M architectures can realize ubiquitous computing in daily life applications. This is carried out after acquainting and initiating readers with M2M architectures and arguments for M2M. Some of the applications was not achievable before but are becoming viable owing to emergence of M2M communications.

  • At the present time the task of designing a highly integrated ZigBee radio frequency (RF) receiver with an excellent coexistence performance is still very demanding and challenging. This paper presents a number of system issues and design considerations for a ZigBee RF receiver, namely IEEE 802.15.4, for coexistence with wireless devices in the 2.4-GHz ISM-band. With regard to IEEE 802.15.4, the paper analyzes receiver performance requirements for; system noise figure (NF), system third-order intercept point (system-IIP3), local oscillator phase noise and selectivity. Based on some assumptions, the paper illustrates the relationship between minimum detectable signal (MDS) and various situations that involve the effects of electromagnetic interference generated by other wireless devices. We infer the necessity of much more stringent specification requirements than the published standard for various wireless communication field environments

  • The ubiquitous computing & technology is to make passive IT machinery as the smart-object to solve the problems of information management. These ubiquitous devices can be a concierge of humans lives. In addition, the ubiquitous computing & technology added with Pro-Active processing technology is the intellectual automatic process capacity that probably enhance quality of human's life. Although the social influencing power of ubiquitous computing technology is so critical, research on the social impact of ubiquitous has been studied insufficiently. And, we also need the countermeasures to protect the societies from the side effect of the ubiquitous computing technology. The purpose of this research is to minimize the loss which comes from the new ubiquitous society, by presenting the technological and systematic alternatives and by researching the various side effects. This research suggests the proper alternatives by reviewing and by researching the adverse effects of the ubiquitous computing technology.

  • Ubiquitous computing technology makes an impact on the appearance of u-learning and presents an advanced direction of futuristic school education. In ubiquitous learning environments, various embedded computational devices will be pervasive and interoperable across the network for supporting the learning, so users may utilize these devices anytime anywhere. An important next step for ubiquitous learning is the introduction of context-aware learning service that employing knowledge and reasoning to understand the local context and share this information in support of intelligent learning services. However, the existing studies on design and application of ontology context model to support context-aware service in actual school environments are incomplete state. This paper, therefore, suggests a scheme of constructing ubiquitous learning space for existing school network by introducing USN to support context-aware ubiquitous learning services. This paper, also, designs an ontology based context model for ubiquitous school environments which describes context information through OWL. To determine the suitability of proposed ubiquitous learning space and ontology context model, we implement some of context-aware learning services in the ubiquitous learning environments.

  • Purpose: The modern IT can give enormous impacts on the agricultural production and consumption. However, farmer's ability to use IT devices has been known as one of the critical factors on success of IT in agriculture. This survey study was performed to evaluate the informatization status of farmers and to draw a strategy to develop and distribute a ubiquitous agricultural information system. Methods: A survey questionnaire with 19 questions on the degree of IT devices such as computers and smartphones and their utilization were developed. The survey was questioned 3 groups of farmers in Gyounggi Province and analyzed statistically by the ${\chi}^2$ test. Results: The order of IT devices distribution were computers, smartphones, smart TVs and tablet PCs in all groups. The ratios of ownerships of the devices are 97.7, 78.6%, 31.4%, 17.8% respectively. The active farmers in this survey showed higher informatization level than that of native and the general farmers. Conclusions: The ubiquitous agricultural information system was judged to be developed for the computer because spread and use of it exceeds the other devices. Also, the information system based on the smartphone could be a complementary way if the rapid of the smartphones continues and proper education on use of the phone is provided.

  • In the maritime field, desktop-based ENC systems and services have been used for supporting the safe navigation of ship. However, with increasing level of needs for mobile device-based marine information service, ENC systems that provides basis for maritime service needs to be ported to mobile device. It is difficult to directly port desktop ENC system to the mobile devices, because the system operating environment and methods such as process management and memory management of the mobile devices are different from the desktop. In this paper, we analyze the characteristics of the Android-based mobile devices. Based on this, during porting process of desktop-based ENC system to android system, we modified and improved the display module with the characteristics of Android-based mobile devices in mind.

  • In this paper, we describe ubiquitous environments and the trend of convergence that is an evolution path of current telecommunication, and show the concept of broadband convergence network, service feature and evolution path. In order to converge wire and wireless communication, telecommunication and broadcasting, voice and data efficiently, broadband convergence network divides a network into service layer, control layer, transport layer, ubiquitous access and terminal layer. Broadband convergence network will be a network that can provide and control broadband multimedia services with QoS and securityof different and customized level. Then we depict characteristics and types of broadband multimedia service, and describe the characteristic of broadband convergence network. Finally, we show ubiquitous network based on the broadband convergence network to provide ubiquitous service which is a future telecommunication service. We also describe requirements of ubiquitous network such as an intelligent and context based platform, convergence terminals, ubiquitous computing devices, etc., and give various emerging technologies and those applications.

  • We proposed the detection method and security threat under ubiquitous surroundings. We described the problems that must be faced in the design of such a wireless protocol model. The internet is a natural and universal means of providing this interconnection. The networking of these ubiquitous computing devices is driven by the synergy between three trends. In this paper, we analysed the security model under ubiquitous surroundings.

  • A novel Intrusion Detection and Response System (IDRS) for IP based Ubiquitous Sensor Networks (IP-USN) is proposed. According to the best of our knowledge this is the first security framework for any kind of IP based sensor devices. The proposed scheme is fast, lightweight in terms of computation and memory, which make it appropriate for resource constrained sensor devices.

  • In the near future, we can access the information whenever we want, wherever we use because almost devices in ubiquitous environment are connected by either wired or wirelss networks. Especially, u-Learning which emphasizes on pedagogical property is enable to improve learning abilities. As researches of the previous u-Learning, there have been learning by mobile devices such as PDAs as well as the smart classroom which makes the remote students participate in the existing class. However, these researches have not satisfied pedagogical, cooperative and ubiquitous properties yet. Thus we suggest the framework for both local and mobile classroom, which can make the properties easy to satisfy.
