  • It has been argued theoretically and empirically that the analysis of business processes requires the decomposition of an integrated system. However, in order to innovate a business process, cognitive integration activities that try to understand the decomposed features of the business process as an integrated system are essential. This research aims at 1) empirically investigating the cognitive process of integrating multiple diagrams while using object-oriented methodologies in process modeling ; 2) identifying a cognitive integration strategy that supports the successful comprehension of business processes with the use of multiple diagrams ; and 3) proposing guidelines for developing supporting tools for effective business process engineering by using object-oriented process modeling.

  • Over the last decade, the field of supply chain management (SCM) and e-business has received an enormous amount of attention from practitioners and academicians. However, little has been known about how and to what extent small- to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are implementing SCM initiatives and e-business practices. This paper proposes a comprehensive research model and presents the survey results of these practices of SMEs located in Wisconsin and illinois, U.S., In terms of competitive strategy and priority, value chain activity priority, supply chain and e-business integration focus, SCM best practices implementation focus and challenges, and business performance. The analysis reveals several valuable insights into how SMEs should run their businesses in today's volatile, rapidly changing customer economy.

  • The purpose of this study is to construct the System Dynamics Model that can analyze urban spatial and temporal change and suggest the policy directions applicable to U-City Planning in Busan based on the SD model. It reviews previous literatures to elicit U-City issues and performs the case study to simulate urban spatial and temporal changes in Busan. The elicited results are connected into the policy directions of U-City planning. It emphasizes the necessity of business model suggestion based on U-City technology and industry not a tool, the U-City model construction that linkages and integrates the existing cities and new cities, and the excavation of U-City service model reflecting social and demographic changes.

For data analysis, descriptive statistics, 2-test, and t-test were used. As the results, generally Korean consumers had purchased more fashion counterfeits than American consumers. There were significantly differences between two groups on 5 fashoin brand counterfeits. That is, handbag of PRADA or LOUIS VUITTON, shoes of Ferragamo, or Gucci, clothing of DKNY, PRADA, or CK, sunglass of Gucci or Channel, and accessories of Agatha, Cartier, or Tiffany were purchased by Korean consumers much more than by U.S consumers. Also, Koreans had more higher purchasing intentions toward fashion counterfeits than Americans except clothing. Based on these results, fashion marketing would be suggested.

  • In this work, we have investigated the national economic effects of the ubiquitous industry(UI) for a u-Korea(ubiquitous Korea) project. Since the UI are now playing the more and more important role in Korean economy, it will be very appropriate to provide the policy makers with the accurate and reliable information regarding the role of UI in the national economy. This paper employs input-output analysis to examine the impacts of UI while carefully taking into account the unique situations of Korea. The meaningful results have been obtained by utilizing the rich experiences of the UI. To be more specific, the economic effects of UI on the production-inducing, added value-inducing, export & import-inducing and employments have been addressed in the work.

  • The purpose of this research is to understand the effects of Quality Management Award on stock prices movement and to examine the comparative advantages of quality award system in Korea and the U.S. This study compares the performances of QM Award companies in the stock market with those of the market index in both countries. We develop Korean Quality Award Index(KQA Index) based on the Baldrige Index of NIST in the U.S. We inspect three studies. Study 1 tests if the performances of MB Award winners and S&P500 index have a difference in the stock market. Study 2 tests if the performances of KQA winners and KOSPI(Korean Composite Stock Price Index) have a difference in the stock market. Study 3 tests if the performances of KQA winners and MB Award winners have a difference in the stock market. From the empirical tests, the performances of KQA winners are superior to those of KOSPI and the performances of MB Award winners are superior to those of S&P500 and the performances of MB Award winners are superior to those of KQA winners.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of UBL (Ubiquitous basedlearning) on fashion and consumer behavior course. Thirty-one undergraduate university students completed a 15-week capstone course in a clothing and textiles department. About sixteen percent students were majoring in liberal arts and sixty-three percent of the participants were majoring in the clothing and textiles. Mainly, the participants were junior and senior undergraduate students. The participants demonstrated positive attitude toward the UBL (Ubiquitous based-learning) on fashion and consumer behavior course. The results showed that seventy-seven percent of the participants have more opportunities to handle multi-media resources using social network and social media. Eighty percent of the participants have been developed of communication skills. Seventy-one percent of the participants were helped to learn foreign language skills. Overall, most of the participants were satisfied that their presentation skill was improved in class and they had willing to recommend the class to other students for the future.

  • Semantic Web and its related technologies have been opening the era of information sharing via Web. In the meantime, there are several huddles to overcome toward the new era and one of the major huddles is information integration issue unless we build and use a single unified but huge ontology which address everything in the world. Particularly in e-business area, information integration problem must be a great concern in search and comparison of products from various internet shopping sites and e-marketplaces. To overcome such an information integration problem, we propose an ontology driven mapping algorithm between heterogeneous product classification and description frameworks. We also perform comparative evaluation of the proposed mapping algorithm against a well-known ontology mapping tool, PROMPT.

  • The world is in the process of a structural change related to ICT convergence knowledge industries. ICT is leading to the creation of new products and services, and is making our lives more convenient, safer, and more efficient. In advanced countries, many studies have been conducted with the goal of developing new business models converged with ICT, and this is also the case in the food industry. Korea possesses world-leading ICT, and if this ICT is applied to the food industry, a world-class new business model can be developed. The u-Food System, which is in the process of development in Korea, is a next-generation food system that can allow food providers, consumers, and distributors to access various types of information about food products, including traceability, distribution, safety, quality, and freshness, and manage this information. It is a future food system that converges ICT, biotechnology and sensing technology with food. Based on the u-Food System, this paper will introduce the status of current smart quality distribution technologies that converge ICT (such as sensor tag, sensor network, LBS, GIS, and CDMA) with food technologies (such as traceability, quality, distribution management) to manage the safety and quality of fresh food in the distribution process.
