The use of energy pile foundation has increased for economic utilization of geothermal energy. In particular, coil-shaped ground heat exchanger (GHE) is preferred to the conventional U-shaped exchanger to ensure better efficiency of heat exchange rate. This paper presents a numerical and experimental study on the heat transfer behavior of PHC energy piles. Field thermal performance tests (TPTs) were conducted for the PHC energy piles installed in a partially saturated weathered granite soil deposit, in which two types of GHEs were considered: W and coil shaped GHEs. Besides, three-dimensional finite element analyses were also conducted, and the results were compared with the experimental results. According to the results of TPT and numerical analyses, the coil shaped GHE showed 10~15% higher heat exchange rate than the W type GHE in the PHC energy piles.

Recent advancement in ICT and IT infrastructure drives the construction industry towards a IT-based industry. Accordingly, the importance of the planning phase of a project is significantly highlighted due to recent large-scale national development projects such as U-city and multifunctional administration city. various development and studies are conducted on the convergence of 3D CAD and GIS in order to support the decision making by simulation of each phase of construction prior to the actual construction of a building. However there has been limits to the implementation of the IT technology in the planning phase due to its characteristics such as high reliability on the experts knowledge and the compliance of the administration work. In this study, a trendy issue of the convergence of the GIS technology with the 3D CAD design data is suggested to improve the efficiency of a decision support in the planning phase.

The demand of remote control and monitoring for efficiency and applications of LED streetlight is increasing continuously because the demand of LED streetlight was increase last few years. Existing street light remote control system is wired using a power line network. The wireless connection exists, but due to its low data transmission rate, it cannot support specialized applications. It can only support simple control and monitoring. In this paper, we propose a system that uses a IEEE 802.11s wireless mesh network based on WLAN, as a backbone network for remote control and monitoring of the LED street lights along with other specialized applications. Using the wireless mesh network for remote control and monitoring the LED street lights, the same can be used to act like a public Wi-Fi access point. We have designed Wi-Fi integrated LED streetlight controller and implemented our system. We evaluated the performance of our system on a real test bed. Our proposed system is expected to perform the role of a U-city infrastructure by utilizing the wireless mesh network.

Recently the number of the elderly who live alone are increasing more and more as the average life span is prolonged. The elderly are probably in danger at home without being helped due to external aggressions or sudden health problems. Accordingly, more and more interests are taken in medical welfare for the healthy life of the seniors. In this paper, we have developed a mobility and vitality signal monitoring system based on ZigBee-PSTN gateway for the elderly. This combination of ZigBee wireless sensor network and PSTN can be easily established even in the poor internet infrastructure as is usually common for the elderly, with the advantage of providing non-constrained monitoring feature. The research result can be extended to the future tele-medicine system.

The British public library services could be provided earlier than other countries as a result of the Industrial Revolution which was started in the U.K. earlier than other countries. Britain has steadily been building public library infrastructure during the last 150 years and currently maintains the highest level of public library services and operation. Until the 20th century, each local government in Britain remodeled other buildings into libraries and adopted a small and simple form of library building to build more libraries and also to help the convenient use of library, while minimizing the cost of library construction. The construction of public libraries of local governments was supported by the Public Libraries(and Museums) Act enacted in 1850. Korea is in an effort to build more public libraries. The study suggests that a small and simple form of library building should be constructed in order to build more public libraries with minimum costs.

The purpose of this study is to analyses 7 metropolitan cites on the urban facility data rather than application systems including water, sewer, and roads and to present the best way to reconfigure of the geospatial data in Korea. Data were mainly compiled from the 2nd NGIS(National Geographic Information Systems: 95-00) because the GIS data of this study is relatively important to generate favorable results due to their data precisely examinate by the 1st NGIS evaluated results. In results, GIS data and invested budget of the Seoul metropolitan government were not only covered 25 distracted areas of the fields, but also were overwhelming other six metropolitan government invested budget. Relatively the Daejeon metropolitan government had least invested budget resulted in Jess geospatial data than others. In particularly there were serious geospatial data error occurred even though geospatial data of the urban infrastructures like water, sewer, and roads including the national infrastructure like elec., comm., heat, oil pipes, and gas were facilitated with human habitants, gas and elec. had very high error data nearly two times high than the permitted error in 30cm. Therefore, this paper exhibited a LiDAR technology to regenerate high accuracy geospatial data of the metropolitan governments because of the new technology's extremely accuracy in 20cm in horizontal scale in fields.

In this study, we examine why there exist different legal systems in electronic commerce or online financial trading. When a fraud online transaction occurs and the online customer disputes the transaction, the online customer takes responsibility for the proof of her/his argument in many European countries while in the U.S., the burden of proof lays on the firm. This paper analyzes how these two different legal systems exist and how these can be applied to electronic commerce law. In particular, this paper intends to find the optimal level of e-commerce firms' investment on security and analyzes how security investments can be related to firm's profits and consumer's welfare depending on IT infrastructure and social trust environment. More on, this paper can be contributed to provide guidelines for regulatory framework on ecommerce online transactions and discuss social welfare implications.

The Purpose of this study is to analyze telecommunications impacts on travel in a comprehensive system, considering demand, supply, costs, and land use. This study first Presents a conceptual model, considering causal relationships among travel, telecommunications, land use, economic activity, and socio-demographics. Then, based on the conceptual model, the aggregate causal relationships between telecommunications (local telephone calls, toll calls, and mobile phone subscribers) and travel (vehicle-miles traveled and number of transit Passengers) are explored in a comprehensive framework, using structural equation modeling of national time series data spanning 1950-2000 in the U.S. The model results suggest that as telecommunications demand increases, travel demand increases, and vice versa. Additionally. transportation infrastructure and land use significantly affect travel demand.

By the progress of Information Technology, spatial data have been recognizes as one of essential infrastructure. Now for the near future needs of urban simulation, management, u-City construction, etc. MOCT(Ministry Of Construction & Transportation) have been driving to construct the 3D Geo-spatial Data as one of National Spatial Data Information on a base of 2D GIS(Geographic Information System). In this study we tried to analysis the demands and the optimum implementation method of 3D Geo-spatial Data in local governments. As the result of study, the plan to utilize 3D Geo-spatial Data and to carry out its utilization, and the advanced vision of 3D GIS in for the public affairs of Local Governments and private business scope were proposed.

Purpose - Recently, the Korean government is seeking to internationalize KRW and reduce its heavy reliance on the U.S. dollar and better cope with risks from external turbulence. However, there has been too little study on this subject in comparision with its importance. The main objective of the paper is to distinguish the descrete stages of the KRW internationalization and recognize the costs and benefits of each stage. Research design, data, methodology - In order to achieve its goal, this study accomplishes a formal policy analysis based on potential factors of currency internationalization and an examination of legal practices in relation to Foreign Exchange Transaction Regulation (the Regulation). Results - This study found that securing monetary policy may not be easy under liberalized capital account for a small open economy like Korea in view of the trillema. In addition, the inherent ambiguity of the Regulation may increase the costs of KRW internationalization. Conclusions-This study revealed the negative system for the control of foreign exchange of the Korean government. The excessive regulatory restrictions on foreign exchange may hinder the process of KRW internationalization. Some legal and policy reforms are needed to improve related regulation and infrastructure.
