  • Interacting galaxy pairs are important for study of galaxy evolution. We selected 8,542 interacting galaxy pairs out of 593,514 KIAS-VAGC galaxy sample with 0.02 < z < 0.047 and r_mag <17.6. We then classified by their interacting features into 6 types by visual inspection. We focused on two types whose spiral tidal features extend to the center of early type galaxy (ETG) or to the edge of ETG. We compared galactic parameters of these two types with those of entire 8,542 pairs as well as between the two types. Preliminary result shows both types are very close pairs (projected distance ~ 20 kpc). Spiral galaxies in the center type are more massive but less bright than those in edge type. ETGs in the edge type are brighter but not more massive than those in the center type. The center type has a mass ratio 3.4 times greater than the edge type, but the edge type has a higher angular momentum than the center type.

  • According to the unified model of AGNs, type 1 and 2 AGNs are intrinsically the same objects but seem different due to an obscuring matter which can block lights from the central engine of the AGN depending on the viewing angle. The obscuring object is thought to be shaped in a toroidal form and thus the geometry of tori of AGNs is an important factor to determine the fraction of type 1 (or type 2) AGNs. Oh et al. (2015) provides a new catalog of type 1 AGNs from SDSS DR7 in the nearby universe (z < 0.2) and it contains nearly 50% more type 1 AGNs than previously known. Using this new catalog, we test the fraction of type 1 AGNs along the black hole mass (MBH) and the bolometric luminosity of AGNs (Lbol), which are regarded as key parameters of the AGNs. First of all, because the methods to derive the black hole mass and the bolometric luminosity bear uncertainties, we test how the different methods lead to different values of type 1 fraction. We found that the fraction of type 1 AGNs varies with both MBH and Lbol. The extensively-studied, "receding torus model" can only explain the trend along Lbol and hence fails to explain the trend. To understand the new trend, we test the geometry of the torus based on the "clumpy torus model". We present our results on the basic properties of the torus such as a column density or opening angle and compare with those from previous studies based on other wavelengths (e.g. Infrared or X-ray).

  • Limited fossil fuels and unstable energy supply are considered as one of the critical problems in architecture requiring large amounts of energy. In order to this challenge, environment-friendly architecture design is required. Clear data should be prepared to apply solar energy to architecture aggressively and properly. This study used FS statistical analysis data regarding average daily solar radiation of Seoul observed over 20 years to find out standard year and standard daily solar radiation. This study also aims to compare and evaluate an appropriate method of selecting a standard year which is too close to measurement value through comparison and analysis with daily solar radiation acquired by applying overseas researchers' suggesting weight factor. As a result, the data nearest to measurement value of daily solar radiation was UK CIBSE TRY(TYPE 2) displaying 0.100in t-statistic index. For UK CIBSE TRY(TYPE 2), weight factor was applied to three climatic elements except relative humidity. TYPE 1 and TYPE 3 recorded 0.343 and 0.367, respectively, showing higher record of t-statistic than TYPE 2. TYPE 1 was calculated through FS statistical value of single data about daily solar radiation with other climatic elements excluded. For TYPE 3, relative humidity was added to TYPE 2. In particular, since TYPE 2 was closer to the measurement value compared to the others, it is necessary to consider relationship with other climate elements if other climate elements are added.

  • Serpins are a group of proteins involved in the regulation of serine and other type of proteases, and have been identified in many kinds of organisms from invertebrates to vertebrates. Serpins are known to regulate the proteolytic cascades of the innate immune pathways in addition to their roles in blood coagulation, angiogenesis, fibrinolysis, inflammation and tumor suppression. In this study, we have isolated two partial serpin gene fragments from expressed sequence tags (ESTs) of Nesiohelix samarangae. Dotplot analysis indicates that they are of two different types, Ns-serpin type 1 and Ns-serpin type 2. Ns-serpin type 1 has 819 bp coding region (272 amino acids), whereas Ns-serpin type 2 has 555 bp coding region (185 amino acids). Molecular phylogenetic analysis shows that the identified serpins have high similarities to their counterparts in the California see slug, Aplysia californica. Yet, the precise biological and immunological roles of these Ns-serpins remain to be further investigated using RNA interference and other molecular techniques.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify patterns of diagnosis and to explore risk factors for type 2 diabetes beyond the postpartum period in women with a previous history of gestational diabetes, and to identify differences in such risk factors between early and late-onset (aged <45 and ${\geq}45$). Methods: Using epidemiological data from the Korean Genome and Epidemiology Study, a retrospective analysis of 175 women with various timings of type 2 diabetes diagnosis was performed. Results: The average age ($42.6{\pm}10.6$) at type 2 diabetes diagnosis was earlier than the general population, and obesity was prevalent with marked weight gains around 35 years old. Longer duration of breastfeeding was observed in women with late-onset of type 2 diabetes. Conclusion: For prevention of type 2 diabetes, early intervention is required, and modifiable factors such as weight control and breastfeeding should be taken into consideration for intervention strategies.

  • The objective of this study were to examine the relationships between clothing design preference, clothing attitude and sex role identity. Using the data collected through interview questions. 200 subjects who were 60years of age and older in Kunsan, Korea, the data were analyzed using $X^2$-test. The results of the study were the followings. 1. The androgynous type liked two button single jacket and the masculine and indifferentiate type three button single jacket, while the femin type liked soutien collar jacket in their woman. 2. The androgynous type' purchase motive was 'enough money' 'finding like clothing' while the masculine type's 'to attend meeting'. The feminine type's motive was 'enough money' and the indifferentiate type 'to attend meeting'. Clothing selection motive was more influenced the androgynous type than the feminine and indifferentiate type by 'design'. 3. The androgynous type felt 'indifferent' for dare clothing of the aging, the masculine type 'hate', the feminine type 'I like to', and the indifferentiate type 'look so good'.

  • The mass loss rate and heat release rate of EPS sandwich panel cores were analysed using variable external irradiation level. The experimental materials were exposed to incident heat fluxes form 20 to 50 kW/$m^2$. For the measurement of mass loss rate and heat release rate, the size of specimen was $100mm{\times}100mm{\times}50mm$ and the samples were 3 different kinds. The combustion heat were carried out from the Oxygen bomb calorimeter and the mass loss rate and heat release rate were carried out from the Mass loss calorimeter according to ISO 5660-1. As the results of this study, the mass loss rate of Type A, B, and C were 2.7 g/$m^2s$, 2.8 g/$m^2s$, and 2.3 g/$m^2s$ and the heat release rate of Type A, B, and C were 58.23 kW/$m^2$, 47.19 kW/$m^2$, and 50.06 kW/$m^2$ respectively at the heat flux of 50 kW/$m^2$. In conclusion, when the heat release characteristics applied to a classification system of Canada, Type A and C can be classified grade C-3, and Type C can be classified grade C-2 from all data of this study.
