An Analysis of the Sound Propagation between Rooms with Different Mediums (서로 다른 매질을 갖는 격실사이의 음파전달해석)

  • In this paper, an analysis of sound propagation between two rooms with different mediums is discussed. Statistical energy analysis (SEA) is used to consider energy equilibrium among subsystems associated with the sound pressure levels in two rooms and the vibration level of the wall between rooms. Effect of the sound radiation from the structure-borne noise of the wall on sound pressure level of the receiving room is investigated. For a numerical example, sound propagation between engine room and water tank joined by a steel plate whose size is $8.4{\times}4$ m, is considered. It is found that when the critical frequency of the plate is above the frequency range of interest, the sound pressure level in the water tank is dominated by sound transmission through the plate, while sound radiation from the structure-borne noise of the plate is negligible except low frequency range below 63 Hz.

A Study on the Extraction of Parasitic Capacitance for Multiple-level Interconnect Structures (다층배선 인터커넥트 구조의 기생 캐패시턴스 추출 연구)

  • This paper are reported a methodology and application for extracting parasitic capacitances in a multi-level interconnect semiconductor structure by a numerical technique. To calculate the parasitic capacitances between the interconnect lines, we employed finite element method (FEM) and calculated the distrubution of electric potential in the inter-metal layer dielecric(ILD) by solving the Laplace equation. The three-dimensional multi-level interconnect structure is generated directly from two-dimensional mask layout data by specifying process sequences and dimension. An exemplary structure comprising two metal lines with a dimension of 8.0$\times$8.0$\times$5.0$\mu\textrm{m}^3/TEX>, which is embedded in three dielectric layer, was simulated to extract the parasitic capacitances. In this calculation, 1960 nodes with 8892 tetrahedra were used in ULTRA SPARC 1 workstation. The total CPU time for the simulation was 28 seconds, while the memory size of 4.4MB was required.

A novel meso-mechanical model for concrete fracture

  • Concrete is a composite material and at meso-level, may be assumed to be composed of three phases: aggregate, mortar-matrix and aggregate-matrix interface. It is postulated herein that although non-linear material parameters are generally used to model this composite structure by finite element method, linear elastic fracture mechanics principles can be used for modelling at the meso level, if the properties of all three phases are known. For this reason, a novel meso-mechanical approach for concrete fracture which uses the composite material model with distributed-phase for elastic properties of phases and considers the size effect according to linear elastic fracture mechanics for strength properties of phases is presented in this paper. Consequently, the developed model needs two parameters such as compressive strength and maximum grain size of concrete. The model is applied to three most popular fracture mechanics approaches for concrete namely the two-parameter model, the effective crack model and the size effect model. It is concluded that the developed model well agrees with considered approaches.

Companies Life Cycle Stages and Capital Structure in Emerging Markets: Evidence from Iran

  • Purpose - The current research examines the effect of life cycle stages on capital structure of listed companies in Tehran Stock Exchange. Research design, data, methodology - By aid of 685 year-company data, which collected from financial statements of companies during 2006-2012, first, the companies, are classified into three groups including companies in growth, maturity and decline stages. After removing the companies, which were not in accordance with life cycle model, 86 companies were selected to test two main hypotheses of the research. Results - The results show that the capital structure of the sample companies is different in various life cycle stages. More investigation by LSD test also revealed that the total debt to total assets ratio means of the companies in growth stages were significantly different from those companies in maturity stages and those in growth stages had high level of debt to assets ratio. Conclusions - The result showed the average amount of the working capital for companies in three stages are significantly different and due to high level of operation of the companies in maturity and decline stages, these companies held high amount of working capital than those in the growth stages.

  • The brown algae padina concrescens is widely distributed in the northwestern Pacific Mexico. We described the population of P. concrescens based on population parameters such as cover, density and size structure and reproduc-tion at two levels tide at the intertidal area in the southwestern Baja. California Peninsula. Monthly visits from January to December 2003 were done. Both cover and density were measured in situ by quadrants method. Samples were collected to obtain size structure and percentage of reproductive fronds. Our results show there is sparial vari-ation in the population structure more than temporal. Thus, cover and density peak were at different months ineach tide level studied, the lower tide level shows the high values in cover as well as density. The frond develop-ment was observed in height/width ratio this relation was consistent only in the low tidal zone. Size class distribu-tion has consistently small size plants in both tide levels.Reproduction was seasonal in the tide channel but in both tide levels all the reproductive plants were tetrasporophyte. Our results suggest that this population is pseudopere-nial and it strongly as a consequence of the intense competition in the intertidal zone.

  • In this paper, we consider a hierarchical decentralized supervisory control of discrete event systems underpartial observation in two-level hierarchical structure since the observability is a practical and general property in modeling of real systems. Hierarchical consistencies of controllability and observability on the hierarchical decentralized supervisory control are investigated and relevant conditions are proposed to ensure such hierarchical consistencies.

  • In this paper the modeling and control of a twin roll strip caster is investigated. Mathematical models for the strip casting process are obtained by analyzing five critical areas such that the molten steel level in the pool, solidification process, roll separating force and torque, roll dynamics including hydraulic actuators, and roll drive system. A two-level control strategy is proposed. At lower level, three local subsystems are independently feedback-controlled by suitable local controllers which perform well to the behaviors of each subsystem. They are a variable structure control of the molten steel level in the pool, an adaptive predictive control of the roll gap which is directly related to the strip thickness, and an $H^{\infty}$ control of the roll drive system. At higher level, all reference signals to the lower level subsystems are generated by an optimal controller in the perspective of regulating the strip thickness and roll separating force. Dynamic Wave Pressure Study on a Recurved Offshore Structure (곡면 해양구조물에 작용하는 동파력 고찰)

  • This study is to investigate the dynamic pressure caused by breaking waves on a recurved offshore structure. A physical modelling was performed in a two-dimensional wave flume. The measuments from the physical modelling were compared with several known equations. The shock and secondary pressures were found to be dependent on water depth, breaking wave height and the size of the air pocket. The maximum pressure was recorded near the still water level and the secondary pressures near the recurved the recurved structure were found to be less than those experienced in a vertical offshore structure.

  • In this study experiments are conducted with a mid-layer type structure. This structure can operate not only at water surface but also in water. Six degrees of freedom oscillations of the structure and mooring force were measured by model experiments. From these experiments, it was shown that the lattice model has two peaks in the surge response curve and the oscillation amplitude and mooring forces increase according to the distance of separation between water level and upper deck.

  • By focusing on the resonant vibration mode of soil-underground structure system, this paper obtained dynamic soil stiffness and easy sliding conditions at the interface between soil and underground structure. Multi-step method is employed to isolate two primary causes of soil-structure interaction. Mohr-Coulomb criterion is used to determine the threshold level of the sliding. To find out the conditions the interface slides easily, parametric studies are performed about the factors governing sliding, which are the size and location of underground structures, ground condition, the configuration of surface deposit and interface friction coefficients.
