Detent Force Reduction of a Tubular Linear Generator Using an Axial Stepped Permanent Magnet Structure

  • Various methods have been discussed to reduce detent force in a tubular permanent magnet type linear single phase AC generator. In particular, the proposed methods depend on variations of the permanent magnet construction. These methods include two approaches in the form of sloped magnets, and conical magnets in addition to the conventional method of optimizing the magnet length. The undesired detent force ripples were calculated by a two dimensional Finite Element Method (FEM). Moreover, the generated electromotive force in the stator coils was calculated for each configuration of the permanent magnet. The experimental results agreed well with those obtained from the FEM-based simulations. Sufficient reduction in the detent force was achieved over the range of 40% while the root mean square of the output voltage was maintained. It was found that sloping the permanent magnet decreased the detent force and at the same time increased the generated rms voltage of the AC generator. The performance of the designed linear AC generator was evaluated in terms of its efficiency, total weight, losses, and power to weight ratio.

  • 자기부상형 리니어 모터와 비접촉 구동에 의한 크린룸 환경용 물류 운송장치를 개발하기 위하여 접촉 없이 완전하게 부상되는 자기부상레일을 개발하고자 하였다. 영구자석의 같은 극을 마주보게 배치할 때 생성되는 작용력에 의한 부상 특성을 파악하고, 해석을 통하여 외력 변화에 강인하고 부상위치의 변화가 작은 반발부상형 레일을 설계·제작하였다. 개발된 부상 레일은 고정자석 양면에서 서로 반발되게 자석을 배열하여 부상하는 구조로 상호 반발력에 의하여 평형이 이루어지기 때문에 부상체에는 횡력만 작용하게 된다. 부상계에서 발생되는 횡력은 부상체의 부상 중심 위치에 반발력을 이용한 보조자석을 설치하여 제어하고자 하였다.

Magnetic Properties and Microstructure of Nanocrystalline NdFeB Magnets Fabricated by a Modified Hot Working Process

  • Magnetic properties, microstructure and texture of NdFeB magnets fabricated by a modified hot working process from commercial melt-spun powders (Magnequench; MQPA, MQPB and MQPB+) have been investigated. The hot-pressed isotropic magnet made from MQPA powder, which contains higher Nd content than that of MQPB or MQPB+, shows higher coercivity. The magnet also shows homogenous and fine grains with higher coercivity for higher consolidation pressure. The hot-deformed MQPA magnet shows a strong anisotropy along the press direction with homogeneous platelet Nd$_2$Fe$_{14}$B grains of 50∼100nm in thickness and 200∼500nm in length. The hot-deformed MQPB+ magnet, however, shows low remanence and low coercivity. The microstructure of the magnet consists of two areas; undeformed Nd$_2$Fe$_{14}$B grains and well-aligned but large grains with 3∼4 $\mu$m in length. Low Nd content attributes to the formation of the two different area.

사출성형용 Nylon 6계 Nd-Fe-Co-Zr-B 펠렛의 자기특성 (Magnetic Properties of Nylon 6 based Nd-Fe-Co-Zr-B Pellets for Injection Molding)

  • 급속냉각기술로 제조된 $Nd_{10.5}Fe_{79}Co_{2}Zr_{1.5}B_{7}$ 합금분말을 사용하여 사출성형용 자성 펠렛을 제조하였다. 입도분포가 다른 두 종류의 분말($38~75\;\mu\textrm{m}$$75~50\;\mu\textrm{m}$)을 사용하여 열가소성(Nylon 6) 펠렛을 제조한 후 자성분말의 임계분율(critical volume fraction) 을 결정하고 수지자석의 성형밀도에 따른 자기특성을 고찰하였다. Nylon 6 수지를 사용한 Nd-Fe-Co-Zr-B계 펠렛은 분말입도가 $38~75\;\mu\textrm{m}$인 경우 임계 부피분율은 70%로 나타났고, 그때의 성형밀도는 이론밀도 의 90%를 상회 했으나 $75~150\;\mu\textrm{m}$ 분말의 경우는 같은 분율에서 이론밀도의 87% 수준에 머물렀다. 최적의 자기특성은 분말에 윤활제로서 silicone oil만을 0.5wt.% 첨가한 경우이며 이때의 자기특성으로, $(BH)_{max}=5.2\;MGOe,\;B_{r}=5.1\;kG$ 그리고 $_{i}H_{c}=8.8\;kOe$의 높은 수준을 보였다. Nylon 6수지자석의 성형밀도를 예측할 수 있는 경험식으로서, ${\rho}(g/cm^{3})=1.1+K.V_{s}$을 얻었으며 K(5.3~5.6)는 자성분말 입도에 따른 기울기 상수이고 $V_{s}$는 분말의 부피분율이다.

Wideband and 2D vibration energy harvester using multiple magnetoelectric transducers

  • This paper investigates a magnetoelectric (ME) vibration energy harvester that can scavenge energy in arbitrary directions in a plane as well as wide working bandwidth. In this harvester, a circular cross-section cantilever rod is adopted to extract the external vibration energy due to the capability of it's free end oscillating in arbitrary in-plane directions. And permanent magnets are fixed to the free end of the cantilever rod, causing it to experience a non-linear force as it moves with respect to stationary ME transducers and magnets. The magnetically coupled cantilever rod exhibits a nonlinear and two-mode motion, and responds to vibration over a much broader frequency range than a standard cantilever. The effects of the magnetic field distribution and the magnetic force on the harvester's voltage response are investigated with the aim to obtain the optimal vibration energy harvesting performances. A prototype harvester was fabricated and experimentally tested, and the experimental results verified that the harvester can extract energy from arbitrary in-plane directions, and had maximum bandwidth of 5.5 Hz, and output power of 0.13 mW at an acceleration of 0.6 g (with $g=9.8ms^{-2}$).

스퍼터링 중 외부자기장이 자성박막의 자기적 특성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of an External Magnetic Field on the Magnetic Properties of Sputtered Magnetic Thin Films)

  • A magnetic device which enables the application of a strong and uniform magnetic field to thin film during sputtering was designed for controlling the magnetic anisotropy using a three dimensional finite element method, and the effects of the external magnetic field on the magnetic properties of sputtered thin films were investigated. Both the intensity and the uniformity of the magnetic flux density in the sputter zone (50 mm ${\times}$50 mm) was dependent on not only the shape and size of the magnet device but also the magnitude of stray fields from the magnet. For the magnet device in which the distance between two magnets or two pure iron bars was 80-90 mm, the magnetic flux density along the direction normal to the external magnetic field direction was minimum. The two row magnets increased the magnetic flux density and uniformity along the external magnetic field direction. An Fe thin film sputtered using the optimized magnet device showed a higher remanence ratio than that fabricated under no external magnetic field.

  • Total 144 quadrupole magnets are installed in PLS. The magnets are connected in series with groups of two or 24. Each group is powered by a high-precision constant-current DC power supply. For the purpose of the beam based alignment of beam position monitors in the PLS, it is necessary to adjust the current of each quadrupole independently. To achieve this, a high current shunt regulator is designed. It can shunt a maximum 50 A of the quadrupole magnet current. The shunt regulator is programmable and the current amplitude can be varied linearly with a 12-bit resolution. Power transistors are used in the current shunt regulator. The operation of transistors is in linear region. The RS232C protocol is used for remote control and status report of the shunt regulator to the main control centre of the PLS. Preliminary result indicates that the calibration accuracy of the beam position monitor can be achievable in less than $10{\mu}m$.

  • The Pohang Light Source (PLS) is a third generation 2 GeV synchrotron machine. An injection kicker modulator is positioned in the PLS storage ring tunnel. The kicker modulator is driving four kicker magnets simultaneously. The kicker magnets produce magnetic field to deflect the stored beam orbit in the storage ring closer to the injected beam from the PLS beam transfer line. The injected beam then falls into the storage ring beam dynamic aperture. The current kicker modulator was upgraded and installed on August 1995. Since then, the kicker modulator has shown very reliable and stable performance. The kicker modulator specifications are ${\sim}6.0{\mu}s$ full width, ${\sim}24$ kA peak current, and 10 Hz repetition rate. Output current waveform is a half sinusoid. Two thyratron switches(EEV CX-1536AX) are used in the kicker modulator. Total accumulated thyratron heater run hour is about 15,000 hours as of May 1998. Measurement result of spatial magnetic field distribution in the kicker magnet shows good uniformity.

  • The 2.0 GeV Pohang Light Source (PLS) is consisted of a full energy Linac and a storage ring. Four kicker magnets are installed in the storage ring tunnel to move the stored beam orbit in the storage ring closer to the injected beam from the beam transfer line. The injected beam then falls into the storage ring beam dynamic aperture. A kicker magnet modulator drives all four kicker magnets to maintain field balance and also synchronized kick of the beam. The kicker modulator can handle 2 GeV full energy beam. The kicker magnet modulator is installed in the storage ring tunnel and under stable operation. Specification of the kicker magnet modulator is ${\sim}6.0{\mu}s$ pulse-width, 200 ns flat-top width with ${\pm}0.2%$ regulation, ${\sim}24\;kA$ peak current, and 10 Hz repetition rate. Two thyratron switches (EEV CX-1536AX) are used in the system. In this article, design, and experimental results of the kicker magnet modulator are discussed.
