Digital twin technology has been actively developed to monitor and assess the current state of actual structures. The digital twin changes the traditional observation method performed in the field to the real-time observation and detection system using virtual online model. Thus, this study designed a digital twin model for a beam and examined the feasibility of the digital twin for bridges. To reflect the current state of the bridge, model updating was performed according to the field test data to construct an analysis model. Based on the constructed bridge analysis model, the relationship between strain and displacement was used to represent a virtual model that behaves in the same way as the actual structure. The strain and displacement relationship was expressed as a matrix derived using an approximate analytical theory. Then, displacements can be obtained using the measured data obtained from strain sensors installed on the bridge. The coordinates of the obtained displacements are used to construct a virtual digital model for the bridge. For verification, a beam was fabricated and tested to evaluate the digital twin model constructed in this study. The displacements obtained from the strain and displacement relationship agrees well with the actual displacements of the beam. In addition, the displacements obtained from the virtual model was visualized at the locations of the strain sensor.
Two twin microphones may produce particular patterns of binaural directivity by time delays between the twin microphones. The boundary element method (BEM) was used for the simulation of the sound pressure field around the KEMAR head model in order to quantify the acoustic head effect. The sound pressure onto the microphone was calculated by the BEM to an incident sound pressure. Then a planar directivity pattern was formed by four sound pressure signals from four microphones. The optimal binaural directivity pattern may be achieved by adjusting time delays at each frequency while maintaining the forward beam pattern is relatively bigger than the backward beam pattern. The simulation results were verified by the experimental measurement.

In this paper, free vibration analyses of a parallel placed twin pipe system simulated by simply supported-simply supported and fixed-fixed Euler-Bernoulli beams resting on Winkler elastic soil are presented. The motion of the system is described by a homogenous set of two partial differential equations, which is solved by a simulation method called the Differential Transform Method (DTM). Free vibrations of an elastically connected twin pipe system are realized by synchronous and asynchronous deflections. The results of the presented theoretical analyses for simply supported Euler-Bernoulli beams are compared with existing ones in open literature and very good agreement is demonstrated.
Objective: To propose a three-dimensional (3D) method for evaluating temporomandibular joint (TMJ) changes during Twin-block treatment. Methods: Seventeen patients with Class II division 1 malocclusion treated using Twin-block and nine untreated patients with a similar malocclusion were included in this research. We collected their cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) data from before and 8 months after treatment. Segmentations were constructed using ITK-SNAP. Condylar volume and superficial area were measured using 3D Slicer. The 3D landmarks were identified on CBCT images by using Dolphin software to assess the condylar positional relationship. 3D models of the mandible and glenoid fossa of the patients were constructed and registered via voxel-based superimposition using 3D Slicer. Thereafter, skeletal changes could be visualized using 3DMeshMetric in any direction of the superimposition on a color-coded map. All the superimpositions were measured using the same scale on the distance color-coded map, in which red color represents overgrowth and blue color represents resorption. Results: Significant differences were observed in condylar volume, superficial area, and condylar position in both groups after 8 months. Compared with the control group (CG), the Twin-block group exhibited more obvious condyle-fossa modifications and joint positional changes. Moreover, on the color-coded map, more obvious condyle-fossa modifications could be observed in the posterior and superior directions in the Twin-block group than in the CG. Conclusions: We successfully established a 3D method for measuring and evaluating TMJ changes caused by Twin-block treatment. The treatment produced a larger condylar size and caused condylar positional changes.
This paper reports recent developments concerning the application of Generalised Beam Theory (GBT) to the structural analysis of steel-concrete composite bridges. The potential of GBT-based semi-analytical or finite element-based analyses in this field is illustrated/demonstrated by showing that both accurate and computationally efficient solutions may be achieved for a wide range of structural problems, namely those associated with the bridge (i) linear (first-order) static, (ii) vibration and (iii) lateral-torsional-distortional buckling behaviours. Several illustrative examples are presented, which concern bridges with two distinct cross-sections: (i) twin box girder and (ii) twin I-girder. Allowance is also made for the presence of discrete box diaphragms and both shear lag and shear connection flexibility effects.
This paper is based on the triangular inset patch antenna as the basic structure, and the array structure is the twin tree form to improve the antenna's main lobe gain and reduce the side lobe gain. A twin tree structure was implemented by placing two identical trees of 2-4-6 arrays of triangular inset patches side by side. The parametric analysis confirmed that the gap between tree structures arranged side by side is most effective for impedance matching. The fabricated antenna has a gain of 16.74 dBi at 24.15 GHz, and the beam width of the main lobe is 22° in the E-plane and 6° in the H-plane. The antenna size was 125 mm × 50 mm, and a Taconic TLC substrate with a dielectric constant of 3.2 was used. Although the main lobe gain is improved over the twin tree structure, The directivity in the beam pattern due to the mutual interference of the two tree array structure can be improved.
In Optical Scanning Holography(OSH), 3-D holographic information of an object is generated by 2-D active optical scanning. The optical scanning beam can be a time-dependent Gaussian apodized Fresnel zone plate. In this technique, the holographic information manifests itself as an electric signal which can be sent to an electron-beam-addressed spatial light modulator for coherent image reconstruction. In this paper, we briefly review optical scanning holography and analyze the resolution achievable with the system. We also present mathmatical expressions of real and virtual images which are responsible for holographic image reconstruction. We then show the twin-image noise effect on the reconstruction in conjunction with the size of the Fresnel zone pattern through computer simulation.

Recently, the attention to large container ships whose size is greater than 10,000 TEU container ship has been increased due to their increasing demand. The large container ship has twin skegs because of the engine capacity and large beam-draft ratio. In this paper, the maneuvering characteristics of a container ship with twin skegs were investigated through 4DOF(four degree of freedom) HPMM(Horizontal Planar Motion Mechanism) test and computer simulation. A mathematical model for maneuvering motion with 4DOF of twin skegs system was established to include effects of roll motion on the maneuvering motion. And to obtain roll-coupling hydrodynamic coefficients of a container ship, 4DOF HPMM system of MOERI which has a roll moment measurement system was used. HPMM tests were carried out for a 12,000 TEU class container ship with twin skegs at scantling load condition. Using the hydrodynamic coefficients obtained, simulations were made to predict the maneuvering motion. Rudder forces of twin-rudders were measured at the angles of drift and rudder. The neutral rudder angles with drift angles of ship was quite different with those of single skeg ship. So other treatment of flow straightening coefficient $\gamma_R$ was used and the simulation results was compared with general simulation result. The treatment of experimental result at static drift and rudder test was very important to predict the maneuverability of a container ship with twin skegs.
