  • A family of test statistics is proposed for testing whether or not the mean residual life(MRL) changes its trend. We do not assume that the turning point or the proportion before the turning point is known. This family includes the test statistic proposed by Aly (1990) and Hawkins, Kochar and Leader (1992) for complete samples. We establish the asymptotic null distribution of test statistics and obtain asymptotic critical values of the asymptotic null distribution using Durbin's approximation. We study Monte Carlo simulation to compare the proposed tests with previously known tests.

  • The rear of the vehicle generally overhangs the rear axle. As a result, the rear of a vehicle swings to the outside of the rear axle(rear swing-out). In front steering vehicles, rear swing-out is not important because rear swing-out values measured outside the rear edge are relatively small. However, in the case of the bimodal tram with AWS(all wheel steering), the rear swing-out values increase because of the rear steering at a reverse phase angle. Off-tracking is defined as the radial offset between the path of the centerline of the front axle and the path of the centerline of the following axle. In this paper, in addition to determine the turning performance of bimodal tram with AWS, turning radius, swing-out, off-tracking and swept path width were also investigated.

  • In this paper, a class of linear second order singularly perturbed delay differential turning point problems containing a small delay (or negative shift) on the reaction term and when the solution of the problem exhibits twin boundary layers are examined. A hybrid finite difference scheme on an appropriate piecewise-uniform Shishkin mesh is constructed to discretize the problem. We proved that the method is almost second order ε-uniformly convergent in the maximum norm. Numerical experiments are considered to illustrate the theoretical results.

  • This paper deals with the machinability based on turning and drilling tests. The main conclusions obtained were as follows. (1) Turning : The roughness of Machined surface decreases with the increase of the rake angle of tools, and the tool wear becomes smaller with the decrease of the rake angle. When the feed rate becomes larger, the fracture of work material in the vicinity of the cutting edge occurs on a larger scale, eventually decreasing tool wear. (2) Drilling : Considering both tool life and productivity, it is reasonable to cut with the high cutting speed and feed rate. The tool wear increases with the increase of feed rate, and the tendency of feed rate on tool wear becomes stronger at the cutting speed $\geq$30m/min.

  • This paper investigates on the performance of liquid magnetic compass measuring the concomitant angle of the directional system by the kind of compass and the coefficiant of viscosity of the liquid of ones in accordance with the turning angular velocity of the compass bowl in artificial horizontal magnetic fields. The obtained results are as follows; 1. The concomitant angle is to be in proportion to the coefficiant of viscosity of the liquid of compass and the turning angular velocity of the compass bowl, but ones is to be in contrary proportion to the magnetic moment of the magnetic needle and the horizontal geomagnetic. 2. The overdevelopment of the concomitant angle keeps on regularly at any optional degree in the turning angular velocity over$\pi$ radian per minute, but varies periodically at 180 degree below 3 $\pi$ radian per minute.

  • DTM (Diamond Turning Machine) is using for ultra precision manufacturing such as, plastic lens die or aspherical optics. This study is on a design of precision 2-axis stage for DTM. We designed and manufactured a back lash free stage using different weights and measured the positioning accuracy using Interferometer. Also, the 2-D moving accuracy is measured using the high magnification CCD technique. Then, the stage is tested with the machining of spherical and aspherical lens in a DTM with air bearing spindle. It was shown that the back lash free stage is effective for improving the positioning accuracy. Also, positioning control errors in motion control board were able to be found using the proposed stages system.

  • In this work, diamond turning process is used to produce mirror surface on a Al cone. The Al cone as used as a mirror which can reflect a laser beam without scattering and, hence, it is critical to minimize the surface roughness of a Al cone. During diamond turning, feedrate and tool nose radius are changed to investigate characteristics of the ultra precision machined surface of a Al cone. A laser beam of 633 nm is applied to examine the effect of surface roughness on the characteristics of reflectivity. It is found that surface roughness is not significantly affected by feedrate. The main factor influencing surface roughness is tool nose radius. The line patterns of reflected laser beams show that the minimum surface roughness of 0.08 $\mu\textrm{m}$ (Ra) is required to avoid scattering phenomena of reflectivity.

  • A major problem in automation of turning operations is the difficulty in obtaining a sufficient and reliable chip control. The chip should be detected in order to provide a optimum chip control for unmanned turning operation. Using the difference of energy radiated from the chip, chip Patterns are estimated using pyrometer. From the initial output from the pyrometer, chips are identified according to the backpropagation algorithm developed in the research. The learning system developed in this work can be applied in real-time control of turning process with minor modification in drive system.

  • The machinability of calicium-deoxidized steel is studied in turning by being compared with that of Fe-Si deoxidized steel under a given set of cutting condition. Tool life, cutting force and cutting mechanism are examined on a few sorts of steel. It is found that adhesive layer "Belag" is developed on the cemented carbide tool and the peak value is observed at the cutting speed of 300m/min followed by gradual increase in the thickness of Belag with the increase of cutting speed. the maximum thickness of Belag is also shown at the feed of 0.3mm/rev. On the other hand, the tool life of carbide tool is more favorable than that of high speed steel (SKH 9) in cutting calcium- deoxidized steel. It is considered that the steel deoxidized with Ca-Si shows better machinability a little than that with Fe-Si. However, the cutting force and the shear angle of the former are similar to those of the latter in turning.n turning.

  • We consider the experimental design problem of selecting values of design variables x for observation of a response y that depends on x and on model parameters $\theta$. The form of the dependence may be quite general, including all linear and nonlinear modeling situations. The goal of the design selection is to efficiently estimate functions of $\theta$. Three new criteria for selecting design points x are presented. The criteria generalized the usual Bayesian optimal design criteria to situations n which the prior distribution for $\theta$ amy be uncertain. We assume that there are several possible prior distributions,. The new criteria are applied to the nonlinear problem of designing to estimate the turning point of a quadratic equation. We give both analytic and computational results illustrating the robustness of the optimal designs based on the new criteria.
