  • This paper Presents a design schemes to minimize torque ripple in 6/4 Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) using transient Finite Element Analysis (FEA) in which the magnetic field is combined with a driving circuit. Pole arcs and switching angles are major design factors. If these design factors are considered independently, the enhancement of SRM Performance is restricted. Therefore, this paper proposes not only optimal combination of stator pole arc and rotor pole arc but also the turn-on and turn-off angles as a function of pole arcs. Especially, turn-on and turn-off angle are formulated from a voltage equation and feasible design ranges are suggested with variable speed.

Zero-Voltage-Transition Buck Converter for High Step-Down DC-DC Conversion with Low EMI

  • In this study, a new zero-voltage transition (ZVT) buck converter with coupled inductor using a synchronous rectifier and a lossless clamp circuit is proposed. The regular buck converter with tapped inductor has extended duty cycle for high step-down applications. However, the leakage inductance of the coupled inductor produced considerable voltage spikes across the switch. A lossless clamp circuit is used in the proposed converter to overcome this problem. The freewheeling diode was replaced with a synchronous rectifier to reduce conduction losses in the proposed converter. ZVT conditions at turn-on and turn-off instants were provided for the main switch. The synchronous rectifier switch turned on under zero-voltage switching, and the auxiliary switch turn-on and turn-off were under zero-current condition. Experimental results of a 100 W-100 kHz prototype are provided to justify the validity of the theoretical analysis. Moreover, the conducted electromagnetic interference of the proposed converter is measured and compared with its hard-switching counterpart.

  • Heating and air conditioning system is changing rapidly from the traditional HVAC central supply system to the individual supply system with electrical heat pump system (EHP) in Korean school buildings. The individual supply system has advantages to turn on and off individually and to adjust the thermal comfort separately, but energy is wasted in the unoccupied classroom when the last leaving occupant does not turn off the controller. If the controller is to be off automatically while the classroom is not in use, energy consumption would decrease dramatically. This project aims to cease the unnecessary EHP supply in vacant classroom by inputting the class schedule from the central control room to reduce the energy-spending. Experimental measurements were carried out between the controlled classroom that is turned off when not in use and the uncontrolled room that is turned on continually. Occupant's comfort and energy consumption were measured and compared between the controlled case and the uncontrolled case. The energy consumption of controlled classroom case is 30-60% less than that of the uncontrolled classroom case. This result shows that controlling the cooling supply for the unoccupied classroom using the class schedule can decrease the energy consumption remarkably. This supply control system can be used to conserve energy in school structures like universities.

  • In this paper, we proposed the novel IGBT with an additional n-type MOS structure to achieve the improved trade-off between turn-off and on-state voltage drop(Vce(sat)). These low on-resistance and the fast switching characteristics of the proposed IGBT are caused by an enhanced electron current injection efficiency which is caused by additional n-type MOS structure. In the simulation result, the proposed IGBT has the lower on state voltage of 2.65V and the shorter turn-off time of 4.5us than those of the conventional IGBT(3.33V, 5us).

  • In this paper, we proposed the novel TIGBT with an additional p-type MOS structure to achieve the improved trade-off between turn-off and on-state voltage drop(Vce(sat)).   • Sl-Thyristor는 기존의 Power semlconductor인 단일 IGBT,MOSFET과 비교하여 높은 정격 전압과 대전류의 소호가 가능하며 빠른 turn on swithcing time을 가지는 특성이 있다. 하지만 게이트 드라이버를 이용한 Sl-Thyristor의 turn on 구동시에는 전압구동의 특성과 turn 0ff시에는 전류 구동의 특성에 가까운 구동 특성이 요구되기 때문에 스위칭 요구 특성에 맞는 게이트 드라이버의 설계 및 제어가 쉽지 않다. 본 논문은 펄스 파워 어플리케이션으로 Sl-Thyristor(PT-201 5kV/100A)를 사용하여 pulsed power moduiator용 Sl-Thyristor의 게이트 드라이버의 요구인 빠른 turn on switching 특성과 turn off 시 Si-Thyristor 내의 전하를 빨리 제거하기 위한 조건을 제시하고 있다.

A fast shortest path algorithm for road networks having turn prohibitions (회전제한이 있는 도로망을 위한 고속 최적경로 알고리즘)

  • In metropolitan area, intersections having turn Prohibitions are often found and it is important to consider them in path planning. This Paper presents a new path planning method road networks having turn prohibitions. A new road network model is proposed in which an alter-native route for each turn-Prohibition is constructed in off-line using U-turn or P-turn and then Put into road network database. The proposed network model is efficient since it requires no virtual nodes that are usually used in the conventional road networks to represent turns at intersections. In order to find a shortest path with the proposed network, a new shortest path algorithm is proposed. A knot for the turn-Prohibited node is newly defined and is used in comparing the cost of the alternative route with that of the other path.

  • PURPOSES : The purpose of this system (Rear Lighting System) is to provide illumination for the driver to operate the commercial vehicle safely after dark in highway, to increase the conspicuity of the vehicle, and especially be suggesting the finest observable improvement method, depending on color and pattern of rear lighting system of truck for midnight highway traffic. METHODS : Rear lightning system as an improving way for forward commercial vehicles lighting the securing sight from human factors and the surrounding environment in midnight driving. For this one, basic materials were collected from the data analysis about many types of problems, and filed investigation for establishing Driving Simulator. also taking statistic test to human volunteers after finding recognizable distance of them. RESULTS : As a result, color with the highest visuality is amber followed by green-red-blue as in order for all road types. Especially almost no difference is found between red and green, also when the light is turn off, recognizable distances is wide difference compared to turn on the light. One more thing about study per pattern, upper and entire lighting have similar recognizable distances, but under lighting shows short distance with difficulty securing sight from medians. And straight section shows similar recognizable distances. By finding visuality improvement method depending on color and pattern of supplement taillight, it is expected to suggest quantitative judgement standard for introducing regulation and improvement of supplement taillight. CONCLUSIONS : Night time vehicle conspicuity to the rear is provided by rear position lamps. this study is showed that the color of light ramp is not important to be safe driving, most important is to turn on the light, recognizable distances is big different compared to turn off the rear light, so when the drivng dark in highway, have to turn on the light for reducing risk.

  • This paper presents two new circuit topologies of DC bus lineside active edge resonant snubber assisted soft-switching PWM full-bridge DC-DC converter acceptable for either utility AC 200V-rms or AC 400V-rms input voltage source. All the active power switches in the full-bridge arms and DC busline can achieve ZCS turn-on and ZVS turn-off commutations and the total turn-off switching power losses of all active switches can be reduced for high-frequency switching action. The effectiveness of these new DC-DC converters topologies is proved for low voltage and large current high efficiency DC-DC power supplies as TIG arc welding machine from a practical point of view.

  • This paper proposes a high-efficiency 3-kW hybrid ESS with emergency power supply. The proposed system enables efficient use of power from photovoltaic (PV) cells and energy storage system (ESS). The proposed system can operate as an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) when grid fault occurs, providing seamless transfer from grid-connected mode to stand-alone mode. The LLC converter for PV achieves ZVS turn-on of switches and ZCS turn-off of diodes, and the isolated bidirectional DC-DC converter for ESS achieves ZCS turn-off regardless of load condition, resulting in high efficiency. The efficiency and performance of the proposed hybrid ESS has been verified by a 3-kW prototype.
