This paper describes the development of the database system for tunnel management of Korea National Railways. In order to make the system both target independent and accessible by KNR network or modem, authors developed the system as a web-based application using java language and IBM DB2 database. The system includes the searching, reporting, graphical representation and statistical functions for tunnel data, maintenance records and checking records. Later, the system will be extended to include the process for tunnel state rating and maintenace prioritiy decision-making.

This paper deals with the self-excited mixer using tunnel diode oscillator operated as a microwave source and Doppler signal detector. The system impedance, the oscillation condition and the frequency conversion theory including moving target are investigated. The oscillating frequency and the output of tunnel diode oscillator are 2.035 GHz and 0.1 mW. The input signal frequency which is equivalent to Doppler signal is lower than tunnel diode oscillator frequency by 125 MHz. TDe conversion loss has been investigated as a functicn of input signal level. This loss is greater than 67 db for the large pump mode.

The construction of subsea tunnel differs from that of inland tunnel because of high water pressure due to sea water level and difficulties to reinforce the ground under construction. Therefore, it is very important to prevent trouble in advance when the subsea tunnel is constructed. In this paper, we established lots of databases about characteristics of geological and mechanical parameters on the construction of subsea tunnel using micro slurry TBM which depth is about 60 m. The correlation analysis is conducted to confirm the effect of thrust, torque and RPM among the excavation database on the net penetration rate. Also, An empirical formula is suggested to predict the net penetration rate through the correlation analysis between FPI (Field Penetration Index) and specific energy from the subsea tunnel excavation database.
Recently, many kinds of research has been actively developing for a standardization and information related to the construction works. These works include the general field of design, construction, supervision, maintenance and management on facilities. The works of database construction for a standardization and information were chiefly propelled centering around the present conditions related to the design, construction work. The field related to maintenance and management on facilities lags behind in the works of database construction. The establishment of standard classification system(SCS) on facilities and inspection data is most important among the things related to maintenance and management to have a efficiently maintenance and management. This paper suggests SCS on facilities and inspection data according to that of facilities. On the basis of SCS of facilities and inspection data, code work with classification system and input work for a data of maintenance and management was practised. The purpose of this paper is to suggest a kind of statistics data and investigate a characteristics of inspection using statistic data on tunnel structures
The Caustious blasting have often increased Complaints of ground Vibration and Sound when the Wire-Tunnel Constructed in Pusan. In order to prevent the influence to housing structure, it was necessary to predict blasting-Induced Vibration and Sound. The Suveyer determined the Burden and spacing of Drill holes, minimum delay charges within a allowable Vibration and Sound Level. Tunnel drilling and Ignition patterns are made as follows; No. 1 Tunel (Stable rock, hard rock) No.2 Tunnel (Instable plastic rock; wethered rock) and other Tunnels (Instable rock). The result of 1st testing blasting of No. 1 Tunnel was recorded Under allowable Vibration Level but sound was over 75 Db of allowable value. So Tunnel drilling pattern was amended with 52 Non-charg holes to reduce the blast-sound. The other pattern had no need to amend.

This paper concerns the development of a knowledge-based tunnel design system within the framework of artificial neural networks (ANNs). The system is aimed at expediting a routine tunnel design works such as determination of support patterns and stability analysis of selected support patterns. A number of sub-modules for determination of support patterns and stability assessment were developed and implemented to the system. It is shown that the ANNs trained with the results of 2D and 3D numerical analyses can be generalized with a reasonable accuracy, and that the ANN based tunnel design concept is a robust tool for tunnel design optimization. The details of the system architecture and the ANNs development are discussed in this paper.
This paper concerns the development of an optimized NATM secondary lining design system for a subsea tunnel. The subsea tunnel is normally laid down under the sea water and submarine ground which consists of soil or rock. The design system is the series of process which can predict lining member forces by ANN (artificial neural network system), analyze suitable section for the designated ground, construction and tunnel conditions. Finally, this lining design system aims to be connected for designing the subsea tunnel automatically. The lining member forces are predicted based on the ANN which was calculated by a FEM (finite element analysis) and it helps designers determine its lining dimension easily without any further FEM calculations.
This study aims to identify vulnerability factors through comprehensive safety diagnosis and to seek improvement measures for the safety and maintenance of facilities. In this study, the results of road tunnel inspections and diagnostics were converted into a database (DB). Using this data, we explored to identify vulnerable elements (NATM, ASSM) based on structural types and to develop efficient improvement measures. In this study, we analyzed 76 detailed safety diagnosis reports covering 45 different types of road tunnel facilities. In the detailed guidelines for comprehensive safety diagnosis, the database (DB) items for identifying vulnerable factors were selected by categorizing the basic information, such as the year of completion and damage items. In addition, AHP analysis was conducted separately through experts in related fields to analyze the correlation between damages. As a result, the primary vulnerability factors for NATM and ASSM were identified as cracks, leaks, insufficient lining thickness, and joint rear. ASSM was identified as relatively more susceptible to network cracks and material separation compared to NATM. In contrast, flaking and rebar exposure were interpreted as more significant vulnerabilities for NATM than for ASSM. In addition, the correlation between elements in NATM was found to be low, whereas in ASSM, the correlation between elements was high, indicating a more organic relationship.

ITIS is applied to the several tunnel construction sites in Korea. Tunnel construction properties which are acquired from these sites are transferred to information management server(SQL 2000 server)by client application program in real time. Access permission to DB server depends on the user's roles. Some functions which cannot be embodied in SQL Server are serviced through XML and GMS server is used for spatial data based on GIS part. This system is supposed to give engineers the advantages which are not only easy handling of the program and computerized documentation on every information during construction but also analyzing the acquired data in order to predict the structure of ground and rock mass to be excavated later and show the guideline of construction. Neung-Dong tunnel and Mu-Gua express way tunnel are now under construction and with this system they have 3D visualized map of the geology and tunnel geometry and accumulate database of construction information such as tunnel face mapping results, special notes and pictures of construction and 3D monitoring data, all matters on the stability of rock bolts and shotcrete, and so on. Ground settlement prediction program included in ITIS, based on the artificial neural network(ANN) and supported by GIS technology is applying to the subway tunnel. This prediction tool can make it possible to visualize the ground settlement according to the excavation procedures by contouring the calculated result on 3D GIS map and to assess the damage of buildings in the vicinity of construction site caused by ground settlement.
