PSO based tuning of PID controller for coupled tank system

  • This paper presents modern optimization methods for determining the optimal parameters of proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller for coupled tank systems. The main objective is to obtain a fast and stable control system for coupled tank systems by tuning of the PID controller using the Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm. The result is compared in terms of system transient characteristics in time domain. The obtained results using the Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm are also compared to conventional PID tuning method like the Ziegler-Nichols tuning method, the Cohen-Coon method and IMC (Internal Model Control). The simulation results have been simulated by MATLAB and show that tuning the PID controller using the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm provides a fast and stable control system with low overshoot, fast rise time and settling time.

머시닝센터 회전 결합부의 정강성 Tuning 기법 (Static Stiffness Tuning Method of Rotational Joint of Machining Center)

  • A method has been developed to tune the static stiffness at a rotation joint considering the whole machine tool system by interactive use of finite element method and experiment. This paper describes the procedure of this method and shows the results. The method uses the static experiment on measurement model which is set-up so that the effects of uncertain factors can be excluded. For FEM simulation, the rotation joint model is simplified using only spindle, bearing and spring. At the rotation joint, the damping coefficient is ignored, The spindle and bearing is connected by only spring. By static experiment, 500 N is forced to the front and behind portion of spindle and the deformation is measured by capacitive sensor. The deformation by FEM simulation is extracted with changing the static stiffness from the initial static stiffness considering only rotation joint. The tuning static stiffness is obtained by exploring the static stiffness directly trusting the deformation from the static experiment. Finally, the general tuning method of the static stiffness of machine tool joint is proposed using the force stream and the modal analysis of machine tool.

  • 무인항공기의 에일러론 및 플랩, 엘리베이터 등을 제어하기위한 작동기들은 구조적으로 Time variant한 비선형적인 특성을 가지고 있을 뿐 아니라, 비행 중에 풍향 및 풍량에 따라 모델링하기 힘든 외란이 발생할 경우가 많이 발생하기 때문에 우수한 제어성능을 보이는 제어기 설계에 많은 어려움이 있었다. 본 논문에서는 기존의 PID 제어기의 장점을 그대로 살리면서 실시간으로 변화하는 시스템에 adaptive하게 대응할 수 있고 Auto gain tuning을 이용하여 개발자의 시간과 노력을 현저히 줄일 수 있는 Fuzzy Auto gain tuning PID 제어 알고리즘을 비행체 Actuator 제어에 적용한 연구내용을 기술하였다.

  • Based on the results in the first-part paper, PSS tuning methods including the determination of PSS gain and compensation of phasor lagging are investigated in this second part. In the phase compensation, PSS should compensate phase lagging, resulted from power system-generator-excitation system loop, to provide damping torque in equal phase with the generator speed. Also, PSS gain should be determined to provide maximum damping torque as much as possible without the other modes unstable. In this paper, gain tuning method using the root-locus and the phase compensation of PSS at the one machine with infinite bus system are presented. The differences between PSS tuning at the tuning condition and at the least-stable condition are also discussed.

  • The Intelligent Cruise Control system, ICC, is a driver assisting system for controlling relative speed and distance between two vehicles in the same lane. The ICC may be considered as an extension of a traditional cruise control, not only keeping a fixed speed of the vehicle, but correcting the speed also to that of a slower one ahead. This paper presents a real-time self-tuning fuzzy control algorithm to develop ICC. The self-tuning fuzzy control law is adopted to reduce the effects of nonlinearities of the vehicle and various road environments. In the self-tuning algorithm an interior penalty method is applied to preserve the inherent order of membership functions and is modified as an on-line algorithm for real time application. Via simulations, the performance of the suggested control algorithm is compared with a PID and a fuzzy control without self-tuning. The suggested control algorithm is implemented on PRV III and the results of the test driving on a local road are given.

  • AVR parameter tuning for voltage control of power system generators has generally been performed with the analytic methods and the simulation methods, which mostly depend on off-line linear mathematical models of excitation control system. However, due to the nonlinear nature of excitation control system, excitation control system performance of the tuned Parameters using the above conventional tuning methods may not be appropriate for some operating conditions. This paper presents an AVR parameter tuning method using actual on-line data of the excitation control system with the parameter optimization technique. As this method utilizes on-line operating data of the target excitation control system not the mathematical model of the system, it can overcome the limitation of model uncertainty Problems in conventional method, and it can tune the AVR parameter set which gives desired performance at the operating conditions. For the verification of proposed tuning method, two case studies with scaled excitation systems and the real-time power system simulator are presented.

  • Precision servomechanisms are widely used in machine tool, semiconductor and flat panel display industries. It is important to improve contouring accuracy in high-precision servomechanisms. In order to improve the contouring accuracy, cross-coupled control systems have been proposed. However, it is very difficult to select the controller parameters because cross-coupled control systems are multivariable, nonlinear and time-varying systems. In this paper, in order to improve contouring accuracy of a biaxial servomechanism, a cross-coupled controller is adopted and an optimal tuning procedure based on an integrated design concept is proposed. Strict mathematical modeling and identification process of a servomechanism are performed. An optimal tuning problem is formulated as a nonlinear constrained optimization problem including the relevant controller parameters of the servomechanism. The objective of the optimal tuning procedure is to minimize both the contour error and the settling time while satisfying constraints such as the relative stability and maximum overshoot conditions, etc. The effectiveness of the proposed optimal tuning procedure is verified through experiments.

  • In this work, we have designed a fully integrated 2.4GHz LC-tuned voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) with multiple tuning inputs for a 0.25-$\mu\textrm{m}$ standard CMOS process. The design of voltage-controlled oscillator is based on an LC-resonator with a spiral inductor of octagonal type and pMOS-varactors. Only two metal layer have been used in the designed inductor. The frequency tuning is achieved by using parallel pMOS transistors as varactors and back-gate tuned pMOS transistors in an active region. Coarse tuning is achieved by using 3-bit pMOS-varactors and fine tuning is performed by using back-gate tuned pMOS transistors in the active region. When 3-bit digital and analog inputs are applied to the designed circuits, voltage-controlled oscillator shows the tuning feature of frequency range between 2.3 GHz and 2.64 GHz. At the power supply voltage of 2.5 V, phase noise is -128dBc/Hz at 3MHz offset from the carrier. Total power dissipation is 7.5 mW.

Closed-form optimum tuning formulas for passive Tuned Mass Dampers under benchmark excitations

  • This study concerns the derivation of optimum tuning formulas for a passive Tuned Mass Damper (TMD) device, for the case of benchmark ideal excitations acting on a single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) damped primary structure. The free TMD parameters are tuned first through a non-linear gradient-based optimisation algorithm, for the case of harmonic or white noise excitations, acting either as force on the SDOF primary structure or as base acceleration. The achieved optimum TMD parameters are successively interpolated according to appropriate analytical fitting proposals, by non-linear least squares, in order to produce simple and effective TMD tuning formulas. In particular, two fitting models are presented. The main proposal is composed of a simple polynomial relationship, refined within the fitting process, and constitutes the optimum choice. A second model refers to proper modifications of literature formulas for the case of an undamped primary structure. The results in terms of final (interpolated) optimum TMD parameters and of device effectiveness in reducing the structural dynamic response are finally displayed and discussed in detail, showing the wide and ready-to-use validity of the proposed optimisation procedure and achieved tuning formulas. Several post-tuning trials have been carried out as well on SDOF and MDOF shear-type frame buildings, by confirming the effective benefit provided by the proposed optimum TMD.

Tuning Effect and its Correction for Volumetric Estimation

  • 진폭이상이나 브라이트 스팟은 종종 탄화수소(가스, 석유)의 집적과 관계 있지만 또한 가까이 있는 두개의 반사면 때문에 생기는 튜닝효과에 의해서도 나타날 수 있다. 탄화수소의 가채매장량을 계산하기 위해서 탄성파 진폭과 저류암의 두께를 계산할 때 탄성파 진폭도로부터 튜닝효과를 제거할 수 있다. 가장 손쉬운 튜닝효과제거(디튜닝) 방법은 탄성파자료의 저류암 진폭을 쐐기모델로부터 얻어진 튜닝반응곡선을 이용하여 보정해 주는 것이다. 진폭이상과 관련된 탄화수소의 집적은 퓨닝효과가 제거된 자료를 이용해야 보다 정확하게 예측할 수 있다.
