Mid-infrared Continuous-wave Optical Parametric Oscillator with a Fan-out Grating MgO:PPLN Operating Up to 5.3 ㎛

  • We report on a continuous-wave (cw) optical parametric oscillator (OPO) optimized for mid-infrared emission above 5.0 ㎛. The OPO is based on a magnesium-oxide-doped periodically poled LiNbO3(MgO:PPLN) crystal with a fan-out grating design. A linear two-mirror cavity resonating both at the pump and signal wavelengths is stabilized to the pump laser by using the modified Pound-Drever-Hall (PDH) method. The idler wavelength is continuously tunable from 4.7 ㎛ up to 5.3 ㎛ by varying the poling period of the fan-out grating crystal. Pumped by a diode-pumped solid state (DPSS) laser with a power of 1.1 W at 1064 nm, the maximum idler output power is measured to be 5.3 mW at 4.8 ㎛. The output power above 5.0 ㎛ is reduced to the hundreds of ㎼ level due to increased absorption in the crystal, but is stable and strong enough to be measured with a conventional detector.

Single Longitudinal Mode Operation of a Pulsed Dye Laser Injection-seeded with a CW Ring Dye Laser (인젝션 록킹 방법에 의한 펄스 색소레이저의 단일 종모우드 발진)

  • A tunable pulsed dye laser was operated in a single longitudinal mode by injection locking with a cw ring dye laser. A doubled Nd:YAG laser was used as the pumping source. Phase sensitive detection technique was applied to maintain the required match between the master laser frequency and the slave resonator cavity length. The fluctuation of the center frequency of the pulsed laser was < 10 MHz, and the pulse duration (FWHM) was 6 ns. The linewidth measured by scanning confocal interferometer was 130 MHz. When pumped by 50 mJ of the doubled Nd:YAG laser, the output energy of the pulsed dye laser was 2 mJ and the peak power was 330 kW. 30 kW.

Velocity selective optical pumping spectroscopy (속도군 선택 광펌핑 분광학)

  • We performed the velocity selective optical pumping(VSOP) spectroscopy using the rubidium atomic vapor in the room temperature. This spectroscopic technique removes the Doppler broadening by both optical pumping effect and the selection of atoms with a particular velocity. In this experiment, we used two independent lasers; one was a locked laser whose frequency was fixed and the other was a sweep laser whose frequency was tunable. The two beams were passing through the sample in the same direction unlike the conventional VSOP spectroscopy using two counter-propagating beams. We could make the velocity selective range of atoms much wider with this method than the old one.

Effect of Filter Parameters on a Supercontinuum-Based All-Optical Tunable Thresholder

  • In this paper, the effects of filter parameters on a supercontinuum-based all-optical thresholder are experimentally investigated. By tuning the filter parameters, the power transfer function and power transmission function are tailored. The experimental results show that a thresholder with short center wavelength has a better power function, and the slope in the middle level of the thresholder increases with increasing bandwidth. Through tuning the filter parameters, the thresholder can achieve a steplike power transfer function for optical thresholding, and a steplike power transmission function for optical self-switching. This makes the supercontinuum-based thresholder more flexible, and allows customization of performance to meet different demands in various applications.

Passively Q-switched Erbium Doped All-fiber Laser with High Pulse Energy Based on Evanescent Field Interaction with Single-walled Carbon Nanotube Saturable Absorber

  • We report a passive Q-switching of an all-fiber erbium-doped fiber laser delivering high pulse energy by using a high quality single-walled carbon nanotube saturable absorber (SWCNT-SA). A side-polished fiber coated with the SWCNT is employed as an in-line SA for evanescent wave interaction between the incident light and the SWCNT. This lateral interaction scheme enables a stable Q-switched fiber laser that generates high pulse energy. The central wavelength of the Q-switched pulse laser was measured as 1560 nm. A repetition rate frequency of the Q-switched laser is controlled from 78 kHz to 190 kHz by adjusting the applied pump power from 124 mW to 790 mW. The variation of pulse energy from 51 nJ to 270 nJ is also observed as increasing the pump power. The pulse energy of 270 nJ achieved at maximum pump power is 3 times larger than those reported in Q-switched all-fiber lasers using a SWCNT-SA. The tunable behaviors in pulse duration, pulse repetition rate, and pulse energy as a function of pump power are reported, and are well matched with theoretical expectation.

  • Multi-wavelength Erbium-doped fiber(EDF) ring laser was developed by using a sampled fiber Bragg grating reflecting multiple wavelengths, which was formed by impressing periodical pressure on the outside of a fiber Bragg grating. The wavelength spacing was varied to 4.1nm, 1.41nm and 0.82nm, by pressing the grating with the pressure period $200{\mu}m$, $580{\mu}m$ and $1000{\mu}m$, respectively.

  • In this paper, a tunable integrated transmitter leakage canceller based on an autotransformer for ultra-high-frequency (UHF) RFID readers is presented. The proposed TX leakage canceller consists of an autotransformer, a digital tuning capacitor, a voltage controlled tuning resistor, and a compensating amplifier, and it is designed using 0.13 ${\mu}m$ 1-poly 6-metal RF CMOS process. The simulation results show that the proposed structure has over 55 dB rejection characteristic between a transmitter and a receiver and a 2.5 dB of the RX insertion loss. The TX leakage canceller can be digitally tuned from 825 MHz to 985 MHz with the tuning capacitor and it can be fully integrated.

A study on the tunning properties of BST-MgO thick film (BST-MgO 강유전체 후막의 가변 튜닝 특성에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, tunable dielectric materials are important for resonator, variable capacitor, phased array antenna and other devices application. In this paper, Dielectric constant increased and tuning range increased with the increased of $BaSrTiO_3/Li_{2}CO_{3}$ content, which probably can be explained by the substitution of Ba3+, Li1+ on BaTiO3 lattice. The tunability and dielectric loss of the $BaSrTiO_2/Li_{2}CO_{3}$ thick film, sintered at $1150^{\circ}C$, were about 43 % and 0.234 at 10$\sim$15 MHz, respectively. In case of BaSrTi/MgO, Dielectric constant decreased and tenability increased with the added of $BaSrTiO_3/MgO$. The ferroelectrics properties were distinct when adding Li to BST ceramic thick film, and paraelectrics pattern was distinct when adding Mg.

  • 본 논문에서는 UHF TV방송 전 대역 Ch.14(473MHz)$\sim$Ch.69(803MHz)까지의 모든 채널에서 동작하는 유도결합구조의 RF동조회로를 설계하였다. 기존 자기결합구조의 RF동조회로는 PCB 양면을 사용하여야 하고 수작업으로 Air Coil 간격을 조절해야만 한다. 부품의 집적화와 양산 효율성 측면에서 자기결합구조의 단점을 해결할 수 있도록 하기 위해 본 논문에서 제안한 유도결합구조는 수동부품인 칩인덕터와 칩커패시터 및 가변용량 다이오드만을 사용하여 RF동조회로를 설계하였다. 칩인덕터는 Air Coil에 비해 낮은 소자 Q값을 가진다. 상대적으로 낮은 Q값을 갖는 칩인덕터를 사용하기 때문에 이를 보완하기 위해 Peaking용 칩인덕터를 설계 디자인에 적용하였다. 가변형 대역통과필터로 동작하기 위해 자기결합구조와 동일하게 가변용량 다이오드를 이용하였다. UHF TV방송 전 대역(470$\sim$806MHz)에서 -2.88 $\sim$ -3.97dB의 삽입손실 특성 및 -8dB 이상의 반사손실 특성과 330MHz의 중심주파수 변화 범위를 갖는다. 현재 상용중인 지상파 튜너에 적용되고 있는 자기결합구조의 RF동조회로를 대치하여 적용될 수 있을 것이다.

Full-atomistic simulations of poly(ϵ-caprolactone) diol models with CVFF and CGenFF

  • Poly(${\epsilon}$-caprolactone) (PCL) diol, with good biodegradation and biocompatibility, is one of the widely used soft segments (SSs) in composing bio-polyester-urethanes (Bio-PUs), which show great potential in both biomedical and tissue engineering applications. Properties of Bio-PUs are tunable by combining SS monomers with different molecular weights, structures, modifications, and ratio of components. Although numbers of research have reported many Bio-PUs properties, few studies have been done at the molecular scale. In this study, we use molecular dynamic (MD) simulation to construct atomistic models for two commonly used PCL diol SSs with different molecular weights 1247.58 Da and 1932.42 Da. We compare the simulation results by using two widely used classical force fields for organic molecules: Consistent Valence Force Field (CVFF) and CHARMM General Force Field (CGenFF), and discuss the validity and accuracy. Melt density, volume, polymer conformations, transition temperature, and mechanical properties of PCL diols are calculated and compared with experiments. Our results show that both force fields provide accurate predictions on the properties of PCL diol system at the molecular scale and could help the design of future Bio-PUs.
