  • Total organic carbon(TOC) can be determined by means of combustion and flame ionization detector. The principle of string method is that a sample acidified to pH2 and transferred into combustion tube by string is oxidized with air. Another combustion tube method is that organic compounds are oxidized in the combustion tube charged with CuO and cobalt asbestos after the acidified sample is injected directly by microsyringe. Carbon dioxide evolved was reduced under specially treated nickel catalyst and hydrogen, the methane produced was detected by flame ionization detector. Linear relationship was found between concentration and the peak height by the string method. The peak area in the case of combustion tube method is in the range of 1-200ppm. The coefficient of variation by string method was 2.3% and that by combustion tube method was 1.8%. The lower detectable limit was about 10mol. Advantages of the latter are simplicity, sensitivity and reproducibility. TOC in contineous stream can also be determined automatically by means of the string method.

  • The expanding method of tube to tubesheet joint part on neclear steam generators are classified into three classes of roller expanding, explosive expanding and hydraulic expanding. After the expanded Mock-Up specimen are made by the three expanding method. The general properties, microstructure/microvickers hardness, pull-out strength, hydraulic leak pressure, of tube to tubesheet joint part were inspected. and We evaluated the operation efficiency of expansion, reproduction of expanded joint about three expanding method. Through the overall evaluation of tube to tubesheet joint part, The hydraukic expanding and explosive expanding could be certificated more useful expanding method.

  • A computer program was developed for simulating performance(capacity, power consumption and etc.) of air-conditioners using compressor, fin-tube heat exchanger and capillary tube. The program consists of five modules, condenser, evaporator, compressor, capillary tube simulation modules and properties modules of refrigerant and moist air, The present program is focused on R22 only, however can be easily extended for other refrigerants such as R407C and R410A just by adding property modules. The compressor simulation module utilizes performance maps supplied by manufacturers-map-based model. The condenser and evaporator simulation modules are modeled using tube-by-tube method. Simulation results(capacity and power consumption) were compared with calorimeter test results of actual air-conditioners of window and split types, where more than 82% of the data lied within ${\pm}5$% of the predicted results.

  • Recently, global railway car makers are competing desperately in developing high-speed railway vehicles. Ensuring passenger safety during a crash is essential. The design and the manufacturing of energy absorbing components are becoming more and more important. A deformation tube is a typical passive energy absorbing component for railway cars. In the current study the slab method was used to predict the energy absorbing capability of a deformation tube during the early design stage. The usefulness of the prediction method is verified through the comparisons between the results of FE simulations and those of the prediction method.

  • This research is to review the possibility of reducing the noise radiated from the tube exit by controling the sound reflection coefficient at the inclined exit. The sound reflection coefficient at the inclined exit of flanged tube was measured by both transfer function method and standing wave ratio method. Accuracy on the sound reflection coefficient measured by transfer function method was verified through comparison with sound reflection coefficient measured by standing ratio method. The flanged tube had lower sound reflection coefficient than the tube which have no flange. Also the sound reflection coefficient was decreased in accordance with increasing the inclined angle of unflanged tube.

  • The general equation of homogeneous strin for tube drawing has been derived. This can be applied to the general tube drawing method for non-zero plug angle. Also, the derived equation can represent Blazynski's equations for the sinking and tube drawing with a constant plug diameter. The general tube drawing was divided into two steps, sinking and contact drawing zones. The derived equation can calculate the homogeneous strains of the two steps. The various tube drawing methods such as fixed tapered plug, fixed mandrel, fixed back tapered plug, and floating plug have been analysed by the equation and finite element analysis. From the FEM calculations, the total strains and drawing stresses are obtained and consequently the redundancy factor of various drawing methods was analysed. The fixed back tapered plug method showed the largest redundancy factor and the floating plug method had the largest drawing stress.

  • A crossflow finned tube evaporator has been investigated using tube-by-tube method. The refrigerant flows inside tubes while the air passes outside the finned tue. R134a for a refrigerant and wet air were used in this analysis. Three refrigerant circuitries, complex or simple, were compared. The effects of refrigerant circuitry and airside condensation on thermal performance such as heat transfer rate, enthalpy of refrigerant, temperature of refrigerant and air, pressure of refrigerant and average condensate layer thickness were investigated. It was found that this method could be applied to the analysis of finned tube evaporator for dehumidification and air conditioning.

  • End part of the brake tube formed with the shape of snake head is important for the braking of automobile in safety because it has to prevent crack, fracture and defects occurred during the forming process. Especially, the shape of tube end has influence on the ability of brake. Based on the procedure of process design, in this paper, the forming operation is done by finite element method and the design variables are analyzed by Taguchi method. Design variables such as the outer angle of tube end with the shape of snake head(A), the inner angle to make a hole at tube end with the shape of snake head(B) and the forming distance at tube end(C) are used. Optimization of design variables is performed to minimize the damage factor of the tube end occurred during the forming process. The value of damage factor of 0.327 was obtained under the optimal condition like $A=114^{\circ},\;B=80^{\circ}$ and C=5.3mm, respectively.

  • Concentric-tube continuum robots have formed an active field of research in robotics because of their manipulative exquisiteness essential to facilitate delicate surgical procedures. A set of concentric tubes with designed initial curvatures comprises a robot whose workspace can be controlled by relative translations and rotations of the tubes. Kinematic models have been widely used to predict the movement of the robot, but they are incapable of describing its time-dependent hysteretic behaviors accurately particularly when snapping occurs. To overcome this limitation, here we present a finite element modeling approach to investigating the dynamics of concentric-tube continuum robots. In our model, each tube is discretized using MITC shell elements and its transient responses are computed implicitly using the Bathe time integration method. Inter-tube contacts, the key actuation mechanism of this robot, are modeled using the constraint function method with contact damping to capture the hysteresis in robot trajectories. Performance of the proposed method is demonstrated by analyzing three specifications of two-tube robots including the one exhibiting snapping phenomena while the method can be applied to multiple-tube robots as well.
