  • In this study, several kinds of volatile amines in ambiant air were collected and their concentrations were expected from the calibration curves prepared by standard solutions of 7 amines by the official measuring method prescribed in Japanese Offensive Odor Law. The obtained calibration curves showed a good linearity and the detection limit of trimethyl amine was found to be about 0.033 ppb (0.040 ng) in case of 50 liters air. It means that trimethyl amine could be detected with the concentration of lower than its permitting level at the border line of companies. As typical examples of measuring amines in air, results of investigation of two sewage works and one rendering plant around the capital area indicated that 4 kinds of amines, i.e. methyl amine, dimethyl amine, trimethyl amine and isopropyl amine were detectable and concentrations of trimethyl amine at the primary sedimentation pond and sludge dewatering building of the sewage plant A showed 9.07 ppb and 7.79 ppb respectively, being over the concentration of odor strength 2.5, And the aeration tank, excrement input facility and indoor of maintenance room of excrement process building in the sewage plant B showed 70.0 ppb of dimethyl amine and 2.44 ppb of trimethyl amine.

  • Choline esters that are used with substrate of BChE-catalyzed hydrolyses were synthesized by two methods. First, 2-chloroethyl thiohexanoate, 2-chloroethyl thioheptanoate, and 2-chloroethyl thiooctanoate were synthesized by the treatment of hexanoyl chloride with ethylene sulfide. Hexanoyl thiocholine and octanoyl thiocholine were synthesized by using 2-chloroethyl thiohexanoate and 2-chloroethyl thiooctanoate with trimethyl amine. Second, after reaction of ethylene sulfide and dimethyl amine, followed by acylation with acid anhydride and then heptanonyl thiocholine, decanoyl thiocholine were synthesized by treatment of methyl iodide.

  • 1-(carboxyalkyl) trimethyl ammonium chlorides such as 1-(carboxyundecyl) trimethyl ammonium chloride and 1-(carboxytridecyl) trimethyiammonium chloride were synthesized by the reaction of ${\alpha}-bromoalkanoic$ acid with trimethyl amine hydrochloride. In other hand, (carboxymethyl) alkyl dimethyl ammonium chlorides such as (carboxymethyl) dodecyl dimethyl ammonium chloride and (carboxymethyl) tetradecyl dimethyl ammonium chloride were synthesized by the reaction of alkyl dimethylamine with sodium chloroacetate. The four kinds of alky carboxy betaine such as 2-(trimethylammonio) dodecanoate, 2-(trimethyl ammonio) tetradecanoate, (dodecyl dimethylammonio) ethanoate and (tetradecyl dimethyl ammonio) ethanoate were prepared from 1-(carboxyalkyl) trimethyl ammonium chlorides or (carboxymethy1) alkyl dimethyl ammonium chlorides. The surface activities including surface tension, emulsifying power, foaming power, foam stability, deflocculating effect, effectiveness of wettability and solubilizing effect were measured and also critical micelle concentration and hydrophilic-lipophilic. balance(HLB) were evaluated. These carboxy betaines show good surface activities as O/W type emulsifing agent and detergent.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the influence of addition of cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB), and amine [ethylamine (EA) or ethylene diamine (EDA)] to aqueous sodium hydroxide (NaOH) solution on polyester alkaline hydrolysis, The experimental variables such as CTAB concentration, EA or EDA concentration, NaOH concentration, temperature and time were compared, and the changes in physical and chemical properties of alkalinehydrolyzed PET fabrics depending on their treated conditions were measured, The results are as follows: 1. By adding CTAB and amine in aqueous NaOH solution, increasing effect on weight loss of PET fabrics was obtained in simultaneous addition of CTAB and EDA, but not in CTAB and EA. 2. By adding CTAB & EDA simultaneously, increasing effect on weight loss was obtained regardless of EDA concentration, time and temperature, and it was more effective at lower NaOH concentration. :l. The increase of void space (or irregularly grooved surface), of softness, of wickability, of dyeability on PET fabric, and the decrease of tensile strength, of molecular weight were observed according to the weight loss on the PET fabrics. These changes were equal to all alkaline-hydrolyzed PET fabrics regardless of addition of CTAB and amine. l. There was little changes on crystallinity, thermal behavior when PET fiber was treated with ,aqueous NaOH solution with CTAB and EDA. These results supported that increasing effect on weight loss take place without inducing of fine structural change of PET fibers.

  • This paper is on the industrial synthesis process of anti-oxidant RD ((2,2,4-trimethyl-1,2-dihydroquinoline polymer $(C_{12}H_{15}N)_n$. n=2-4)).The content of dimer, trimer and tetramer of RD as the inspection targets, using the orthogonal design method - take the ratios of keto-amine, the reaction time, the reaction temperatures and the ratios of catalyst acid-amine as inspect factors - to optimized the reaction condition. The results indicate that the best ratio of keto-amine is 2:1, the time of salification and condensation is 3 hours and 7.5 hours. The range of temperature of salification and condensation is $135^{\circ}C$ and $120-125^{\circ}C$, and that the best ratio of acid-amine is 0.2: 1 (the proportion is the concentration ratio for mole). Under the optimization conditions, the yield of RD was stabilized and content of RD more than 45%.

  • In order to obtain the objective indices which can assess the quality and the shelf-life of dried squid, nonenzymatic browning, carbonyl value, trimethyl amine (TMA) and trimethyl amine oxide (TMAO) decrease and panel test were determined in dried squid at various water activity levels. When the data of nonenzymatic browning fit a zero order equation, $r^2$ value were more than 0.92 except aw 0.52 for 0.8241. Through variance analysis for the data of browning extent and TMAO decrease, the confidence limits of regression equation were $99\%$ and their limit values of shelf-life were shown 0.45390 O. D./g. solid and 190.322 g/g respectively. In case of TMAO, $r^2$ value was calculated more than 0.95. Linear regression equation for the correlation between browning data and average panel score was Y=0.6138-0.053X and its $r^2$ value was 0.9285. Also in TMAO decrease, the equation was InY=2.0314+0.08269x and $r^2$ value was 0.7854. The shelf-life, evaluated by nonenzymatic browning, TMAO decrease and panel test, was 110-170 days at aw 0.45-0.76 except aw 0.15.

  • Various tertiary amides have been subjected to the reduction by borane-THF in the presence of trimethyl borate at $0^{\circ}C$ and the product ratio of alcohol and amine have been analyzed in order to find out the possible way to obtain one product exclusively on the basis of the structure of amides. In the case of N,N-dimethyl derivatives of both linear aliphatic and aromatic amides the corresponding alcohols were produced predominantly. However, the bulkier tertiary amides such as N,N-diethyl and hindered acid derivatives afforded amines rather than alcohols. The mechanism of borane reduction of tertiary amides is also discussed.

  • Organic disulfide compounds are having higher theoretical capacity than the conventional cathode material and are considered as the important storage material. Here, we are reporting the preparation of poly (2,2'-dithiodianiline) PDDA/multiwall carbon nanotubes, (MWCNTs) composites under different experimental conditions. Amine functionalized and unfunctionalized MWCNTs were independently used for the preparation of composites. Composites were prepared in the presence of cetyl trimethyl bromide (CTAB), a cationic surfactant, and also in the absence of CTAB. A physical mixture of PDTDA and MWCNTs was formed with unfunctionalized MWCNTs. Grafting of PDDA onto MWCNTs was performed by chemical oxidative polymerization of 2, 2'-dithiodianiline in the presence of amine functionalized MWCNTs. The composites of MWCNTs and PDTDA were characterized for structure, morphology and thermal properties through Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Fourier transform Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and UV-visible spectroscopy. The composite materials prepared by this method are expected to find applications as electrode materials for lithium batteries.

  • Ordered mesoporous silica (MCM-41) materials with different textural properties were prepared using alkyl (dodecyl, cetyl, eicosane) trimethyl ammonium bromide (DTAB, CTAB, ETAB, respectively) as structure directing surfactants, functionalized with amine groups and used as adsorbent for the toxic metal ions, Cr (VI), As (V), Pb (II) and Hg (II). Amino functionalization of mesoporous MCM-41 was achieved by cocondensation of N-[3-(trimethoxysilyl)-propyl] aniline with tetraethyl orthosilicate. Adsorption isotherm and adsorption capacity of the amine functionalized materials for Cr (VI), As (V), Pb (II) and Hg (II) ions were followed by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Results demonstrate that amine functionalized MCM-41 prepared with ETAB showed higher adsorption capacity for Cr (VI), As (V), Pb (II) and Hg (II) ions in comparison to MCM-41 prepared with CTAB and DTAB. The higher adsorption capacity for MCM-41(ETAB) was correlated with amine content in the material (determined by CHN analysis) and relative decrease in pore volume and pore diameter. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, nitrogen adsorptiondesorption measurements and Fourier Transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR) were used to follow the changes in the textural parameters and surface properties of the mesoporous materials as a result of amine functionalization to correlate with the adsorption characteristics. The adsorption process was found to depend on the pH of the medium.

  • The drag reduction (DR) and heat transfer efficiency reduction (ER) of non-ionic surfactant were investigated as a function of fluid velocity, temperature, and surfactant concentration. An experimental apparatus consisting of two temperature controlled water storage tanks, pumps, test specimen pipe and the piping network, two flow meters, two pressure gauges, a heat exchanger, and data logging system was built. From the experimental results, it was concluded that existing alkyl ammonium surfactant (CTAC Cethyl Trimethyl Ammonium Chloride) had DR of $0.6{\sim}0.8$ at $1,000{\sim}2,000ppm$ concentration with fluid temperature ranging between $50{\sim}60^{\circ}C$. However, the DR was very low when the fluid temperature was $70{\sim}80^{\circ}C$. The new amine oxide and betaine surfactant(SAOB Stearyl Amine Oxide + Betaine) had lower DR at fluid temperatures ranging between $50{\sim}60^{\circ}C$ compared with CTAC. However, with fluid temperature ranging between $70{\sim}80^{\circ}C$ the DR was $0.6{\sim}0.8$ when the concentration level was $1,000{\sim}2,000ppm$.
