  • We propose a triangular-multicore hollow optical fiber (TMC-HOF) design for uncoupled mode-division and space-division multiplexing. The TMC-HOF has three triangular cores, and each core has three modes: $LP_{01}$ and two split $LP_{11}$ modes. The asymmetric structure of the triangular core can split the $LP_{11}$ modes. Using the proposed structures, nine independent modes can propagate in a fiber. We use a fully vectorial finite-element method to estimate effective index, chromatic dispersion, differential group delay (DGD), and confinement loss by controlling the parameters of the TMC-HOF structure. We confirm that the proposed TMC-HOF shows flattened chromatic dispersion, low DGD, low confinement loss, low core-to-core crosstalk, and low crosstalk between adjacent modes. The proposed TMC-HOF can provide a common platform for MDM and SDM applications.

  • This paper presents a triangular-to-quadrilateral mesh conversion method that can control the directionality of the output quadrilateral mesh according to a user-specified vector field. Given a triangular mesh and a vector field, the method first scores all possible quadrilaterals that can be formed by pairs of adjacent triangles, according to their shape and directionality. It then converts the pairs into quadrilateral elements in order of the scores to form a quadrilateral mesh. Engineering analyses with finite element methods occasionally require a quadrilateral mesh well aligned along the boundary geometry or the directionality of some physical phenomena, such as in the directions of a streamline, shock boundary, or force propagation vectors. The mesh conversion method can control the mesh directionality according to any desired vector fields, and the method can be used with any existing triangular mesh generators.

  • A triangular fuzzy number is one of the most popular fuzzy numbers. Many results for the extended algebraic operations between two triangular fuzzy numbers are well-known. We generalize the triangular fuzzy numbers on $\mathbb{R}$ to $\mathbb{R}^2$. By defining parametric operations between two regions valued ${\alpha}$-cuts, we get the parametric operations for two triangular fuzzy numbers defined on $\mathbb{R}^2$.

  • A CPW-fed to CPS dipole antenna of triangular loop director by microstrip tapered balun is proposed for dual and wide band operations, in this paper. The proposed antenna is consisted of a CPW-fed to CPS transform, microstrip tapered balun element, CPS dipole driver and triangular loop director. A dual and wide bandwidth of the proposed dipole antenna is realized by introducing the triangular loop director and taper matching element. The operated frequency bandwidth is 1GHz (2.14~3.14 GHz) and 1.9 GHz (4.6~6.5 GHz) to return loss criterion of less than 10 dB. The measured return loss of the proposed antenna showed good results of the dual and wide band operating frequency and the radiation pattern. The proposed antenna is able to support WLAN wireless communications applications.

  • The purpose of this paper is to introduce and study a class of coupled systems of fuzzy delay differential equations involving fuzzy initial values and fuzzy source functions of triangular type. We assume that these initial values and source functions are triangular fuzzy functions and define solutions of the coupled systems as a triangular fuzzy function matrix consisting of real functional matrices. The method of triangular fuzzy function, fractional steps and fuzzy terms separation are used to solve the problems. Furthermore, we prove existence and uniqueness of solution for the considered systems, and then a solution algorithm is proposed. Finally, we present an example to illustrate our main results and give some work that can be done later.

  • Image snapping for an image moves the cursor location to nearby features in the image, such as edges. In this paper, we propose geometric snapping for 3D triangular meshes, which is extended from image snapping. Similar to image snapping, geometric snapping also moves the cursor location naturally to a location which represents main geometric features in the 3D triangular meshes. Movement of cursor is based on the approximate curvatures which appear geometric features on the 3D triangular meshes. The proposed geometric snapping can be applied to extract main geometric features on 3D triangular meshes. Moreover, it can be applied to extract the geometric features of a tooth which are necessary for generating the occlusal surfaces in dental prostheses.

  • The handle of fabrics including tactility and sense of visuality are closely related to the factors governing the preferences of end-users. This study shows the change of mechanical properties, thermal properties and optical properties by comparing two fabrics which are woven with circular shaped filaments and with triangular ones. The fabric mechanical characteristics required for primary hand values were evaluated with the KES-FB system. The mechanical properties measured by KES-FB system shows that fabrics made of circular filaments are greater than those made of triangular ones. The thermal properties measured by KES-F7(Thermo Labo II) system shows that the values of the initial maximum value(qmax) and the thermal conductivity(λ) are higher in the fabric made of triangular shaped ones. When the light rays tall on a surface, the fabric made of triangular filaments shows more lustrous than circular ones.

  • The present paper presents the experimental results for pressure drop in inclined tube bundles located in a rectangular duct. Measurements are made for pressure drop in triangular and rotated triangular tube arrays having P/d ratio of 1.6 and inclination angles of 30,45,60 and 90 degrees. The Reynolds number based on the free stream velocity and tube diameter ranges from $8{\times}10^2\;to\;6.3{\times}10^{4}$. The experimental results show that the magnitude of dimensionless pressure drop decreases significantly when the inclined angle is less than 45 degree. The measured data are compared with two existing correlations available in the literatures. The ESDU correlation agrees well with the present data far the triangular arrays. But some discrepancies are observed for the rotated triangular arrays when the inclined angles are 30 and 45 degrees. The Idel'chik correlation generally agrees well with the measured data for the rotated triangular arrays except for the inclined angle of 30 degree. The Idel'chik correlation needs modification for the triangular arrays. The modified Idel'chik correlation agrees well with the measured data within $10{\%}$. It is found that the present measured data can be applied to the evaluation and modification of previous correlations.

  • We propose an algorithm for obtaining a triangular approximation of a trimmed NLRBS surface. Triangular approximation is used in the pre-processing step of many applications such as RP(Rapid Prototyping), NC(Numerical Control) and FEA(Finite Element Analysis), etc. The algorithm minimizes the number of triangular elements within tolerance and generates a valid triangular mesh for STL file and NC tool path generation. In the algorithm, a subdivision method is used. Since a patch is a basic element of triangular mesh creation, boundary curves of a patch are divided into line segments and the division of curves is applied for the interior of the surface. That is, boundary curves are subdivided into line segments and two end points of each line segment are propagated to the interior of the surface. For the case of a trimmed surface, triangulation is carried out using a model space information. The algorithm is superior because the number of elements can be controlled as the curvature of the surface varies and it generates the triangular mesh in a trimmed region efficiently. To verify the efficiency, the algorithm was implemented and tested for several 3D objects bounded by NURBS surfaces.

  • A high-order potential-based panel method based on Green's theorem, with piecewise-linear dipole strength on triangular panels, is formulated for the analysis of potential flow around a three-dimensional wing. Previous low-order panel methods adopt square panels with piecewise-constant dipole strength, which results in inherent errors. Square panels can not represent a high curvature lifting body, such as propellers, since the four vertices of the square panel do not locate at the same flat plane. Moreover the piecewise-constant dipole strength induces inevitable errors due to the steps in dipole strength between adjacent panels. In this paper a high-order panel method is formulated to improve accuracy by adopting a piecewise linear dipole strength on triangular panels. Firstly, the square panels are replaced by triangular panels in order to increase the geometric accuracy in representing the shape of the object with large curvature. Next, the step difference of the dipole strength between adjacent panels is removed by adopting piecewise-linear dipole strength on the triangular panels. The calculated results by the present method is compared with analytical ones for simple non-lifting geometries, such as ellipsoid. The results for an elliptic wing with zero thickness at finite angle of attack are compared with Jordan's results. The comparison shows reasonable agrements for the both lifting and non-lifting bodies.
