  • We study the stability of traveling waves of a certain chemotaxis model. The traveling wave solution is a central object of study in a chemotaxis model. Kim et al. [8] introduced a model on a population and nutrient densities based on a nonlinear diffusion law. They proved the existence of traveling waves for the one dimensional Cauchy problem. Existence theory for traveling waves is typically followed by stability analysis because any traveling waves that are not robust against a small perturbation would have little physical significance. We conduct a numerical nonlinear stability for a few relevant instances of traveling waves shown to exist in [8]. Results against absolute additive noises and relative additive noises are presented.

  • This thesis focuses on the study of high-power, coupled-cavity traveling-wave tube(CCTWT) for radar applications. The CCTWT employed a reentrant double-slot staggered RF cavity structure. Computational analysis of the X-band, double-slot staggered structures is carried out through the use of HFSS code, which solves Maxwell's equations fully in three-dimensions. The non-linear, large-signal performance of CCTWTs are predicted from numerical simulations using a three-dimensional particle-in-cell code, MAGIC3D. With beam voltage set to 12.7~13kV and beam current at 300mA, the CCTWT produces a saturated radiation power of 350~430W, corresponding to an electronic efficiency of 8.9~11.2% and a gain of 23.7~24.2dB within a frequency range of 7.9~8.4GHz.

  • In this paper, we analyze the traveling-wave electro-absorption modulator (TW-EAM) in consideration of the microwave feed-line. The TW-EAM is analyzed by using the equivalent circuit model. The microwave feed-line isanalyzed by momentum method. In a view point of microwave characteristics, we present the effect of the structure and the length of microwave feed-line.

  • Among many optical modulators, we are interested in traveling-wave(TW) multiple quantum well(MQW) electro-absorption modulator which can be used for wide-band applications, covering DC to 30GHz or higher frequencies. In this study, we simulate a 1.3mm InGaAs/lnGaAsP TW MQW EAM using the 3D Finite Difference-Time Domain (FDTD) method. We identify that several geometric factors affect Microwave charateristics. Our calculated data provide useful information to optimize and fabricate ridge-type TW CPW EAM.

  • In this paper, a good fault location algorithm will be presented, which uses novel signal processing techniques and takes a new paradigm to overcome some drawbacks of the conventional methods. The main feature of the method is that it uses the high frequency components in fault signal and considers the influence of the source network by using a traveling wave concept.

  • A finite-element method is developed to calculate the impedance of arbitrarily shaped electrodes on traveling-wave modulators. This method employs the divergence theorem to obtain the total charge on an electrode from the node potential values. By using this method, the impedance of multi strip-line electrodes on anisotropic inhomogeneous dielectric media was analysed and the effect of non-zero electrode thickness was calculated.

  • A coupled-mode approach is used to analyze the interaction of the carrier wave in solid-state materials with the external slow electromagnetic wave. A general condition for an active coupling is derived. Gain characteristics is also examined as a function of operating frequency and thermal-to-drift veocity variations.

  • In this study. object transport method based on ultrasonic flexural vibration is presented. Ultrasonic vibration generates ultrasonic traveling waves on the surface of elastic medium. Objects are transported through the interaction with traveling waves propagating in medium. Two types of transport methods are studied: frictional drive and acoustic levitation. With frictional drive, objects are transported in contact with the beam in the opposite direction of wave propagation whereas with acoustic levitation, objects are acoustically levitated above the beam surface and transported in the wave propagation direction. Transport characteristics are experimentally investigated using objects of different shapes and sizes. The transition from acoustic levitation mode to frictional drive mode is also examined. and it is found to occur when the ratio of mass to area of an object exceeds the threshold ratio of mass to area. It is envisaged that this feasibility study will serve as a stepping-stone for ultrasonic vibration to become an effective industrial material handling device in the future.
