Transportation planners are increasingly adopting policies aimed at changing travel choices made by general commuter. Theories on the relationship between high-speed technology and transport address changes in travel behavior of regional commuter due to alterations in the Kyung-Bu railroad transportation corridor. The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationships between travel behavior and high-speed technology. The KORAIL data allows us to explore the differences between travel characteristics that are usually hard to discern by guesswork. The effects of travel time were found to be significant in the full decisions that control for commuting KTX. Although many argue that transportation behavior cannot be changed, this paper demonstrates that about 4 years of behavioral data on KTX travel show otherwise. In this paper we explore several possibilities to fill in some of the gaps in our knowledge on the expansion of commuter belt.
Purpose - Finding an optimal path is an essential component for the design and operation of smart transportation or logistics network. Many applications in navigation system assume that travel time of each link is fixed and same. However, in practice, the travel time of each link changes over time. In this paper, we introduce a new transportation problem to find a latest departing time and delivery path between the two nodes, while not violating the appointed time at the destination node. Research design, data, and methodology - To solve the problem, we suggest a mathematical model based on network optimization theory and a backward search method to find an optimal solution. Results - First, we introduce a dynamic transportation problem which is different with traditional shortest path or minimum cost path. Second, we propose an algorithm solution based on backward search to solve the problem in a large-sized network. Conclusions - We proposed a new transportation problem which is different with traditional shortest path or minimum cost path. We analyzed the problem under the conditions that travel time is changing, and proposed an algorithm to solve them. Extending our models for visiting two or more destinations is one of the further research topics.

This study intended to evaluate the operational performance change from the introduction of the bus signal priority system using the field data. To complete the objective, travel time and volume data were collected from the before and after study, then the distribution of individual vehicle's travel time and the difference of travel time and traffic volume were compared respectively. Analysis results showed that no significant volume change was observed from both passenger vehicle and bus for the major and cross streets. It was identified that the quality of travel time distributions of passenger vehicle and bus was improved after introducing the bus signal priority system. In terms of average speed, passenger car in a major direction increased by 6.5% and bus increased by 10.5% in general. Statistical tests showed that those speed differences were statistically significant at the 95% of confidence level. The results of this paper will be a good source for further research in the area of bus signal priority control.

This study suggested combined filtering model to eliminate outlier travel time data in transportation information system, and it was based on Median Absolute Deviation and Voting Rule. This model applied Median Absolute Deviation (MAD) method to follow normal distribution as first filtering process. After that, Voting rule is applied to eliminate remaining outlier travel time data after Median Absolute Deviation. In Voting Rule, travel time samples are judged as outliers according to travel-time difference between sample data and mean data. Elimination or not of outliers are determined using a majority rule. In case study of national highway No. 3, combined filtering model selectively eliminated outliers only and could improve accuracy of estimated travel time.

Recently the demands for traffic information tend to increase, and travel time might one of the most important traffic information. To effectively estimate exact travel time, highly reliable traffic data collection is required. BIS(Bus Information System) data would be useful for the estimation of the route travel time because BIS is collecting data for the bus travel time on the main road of the city on real-time basis. Traditionally use of BIS data has been limited to the realm of bus operating but it has not been used for a variety of traffic categories. Therefore, this study estimates a route travel time on road networks in urban areas on the basis of real-time data of BIS and then eventually constructs regression models. These models use an explanatory variable that corresponds to bus travel time excluding service time at the bus stop. The results show that the coefficient of determination for the constructed regression model is more than 0.950. As a result of T-test performance with assistance from collected data and estimated model values, it is likely that the model is statistically significant with a confidence level of 95%. It is generally found that the estimation for the exact travel time on real-time basis is plausible if the BIS data is used.
The ILLUDAS and SWMM models were applied to the developing area of Dongsucheon for comparisons of the total runoff, peak discharge and travel time. For this purpose, the present and future urbanization rates were assumed 70% and 90%, respectively. The runoff analysis of two models has been performed based on 10, 20, 30 and 50 return periods and Huff's 4 quantiles for time distribution pattern of design rainfalls. As results, the total runoff based on Huff's pattern had an decreasing order of 1, 4, 3 and 2 quantiles for both models. The SWMM model showed that there were 4.3% increasing of the total runoff, 4.9% increasing of peak discharge, and 6.6% decreasing of travel time. Similarly, for ILLUDAS model, there were 7.3% and 9.2% increasing of total runoff and peak discharge, respectively and 9.1% decreasing of travel time.

The estimation of total travel time on highway link for a day or year is the most important process for the feasibility analysis of highway or railway. Most of current guidelines for feasibility studies have been based on the time-traffic volume relationship from the BPR, and the traffic volumes have been determined by the application of the design hour factor to the annual average daily traffic volume. Both of the BPR function and the application of the design hour volume may result in the over-estimation of travel time due to the fact that the traffic volume on the large portion of highway links in Korea are close to the capacities. This study proposed a new way which is based on the distribution of hourly volumes for a year. It could be closer to the real situation, and provide more reasonable estimation. This methodology was validated for the national highways, but may be applicable for any type of highway with the AADT.
The behavioral mechanism underlying the traffic assignment model is a choice, or decision-making process of traveling paths between origins and destinations. The deterministic approach to traffic assignment assumes that travelers choose shortest path from their origin-destination pair. Although this assumption seems reasonable, it presumes that all travelers have perfect information regarding travel time, that they make consistently correct decision, and that they all behave in identical fashion. Stochastic user equilibrium assignment relaxes these presumptions by including a random component in traveler's perception of travel time. The objective of this study is to compare "A Model of Deterministic User Equilibrium Assignment" with "Models of Stochastic User Equilibrium Assignment" in the theoretical and practical aspects. Specifically, SUE models are developed to logit and probit based models according to discrete choice functions. The models were applied to sioux Falls net ork consisting of 24 zones, 24 nodes and 76 links. The distribution of perceived travel time was obtained by using the relationship between speed and traffic flow.

The rapid development of IT and Science & Technology has greatly influenced the aspect of future warfare. Accordingly, the Army Forces require efficient logistics support, hence the importance of AS/RS has steadily increased. This research validated mathematical propriety of the management problem of S/R machine in AS/RS with mathematical analysis based on its travel time and simulation analysis using Automod. After all, we could improve the performance of S/R machine based on its dwell point and turn-over distribution.
This paper is described the concepts and limitations for the traditional directional design hour volume estimation. The main objective of this paper is to establish an estimation method of probabilistic directional design hour volume in order to improve the limitation for the traditional approach method. To express the traffic congestion of specific road segment, this paper proposed the link travel time as the probability that the road capacity can accommodate a certain traffic demand at desired service level. Also, the link travel time threshold was derived from chance-constrained stochastic model. Such successive probabilistic process could determine optimal ranked design hour volume and directional design hour volume. Therefore, the probabilistic directional design hour volume can consider the traffic congestion and economic aspect in road planning and design stage. It is hoped that this study will provide a better understanding of various issues involved in the short term prediction of directional design hourly volume on different types of roads.
