  • The insulator being used for transmission line is to mount the charged conductor on the tower or other supports. The insulators are classified according to its material: porcelain, glass and polymer. Polymer insulators are also called as composite insulator or non ceramic insulator (NCI). Insulators are a major element of a power transmission system. Since a faulty insulator can lead to a wide spreading blackout, it must have sufficient mechanical and electrical strength. It must be durable, have high electrical insulation and be able to withstand a leakage current. It must also be able to withstand the toughest weather conditions. In Korea, porcelain insulators have been used widely. However, to make compact equipment and keep up with global trends, we have enhanced domestic production of polymer insulator and are encouraging its applications. Accordingly, this thesis will look at types of insulators, use and trends, and prospects of insulators application in the field.

  • There has been a considerable attention on Invar alloys due to its low thermal expansion property. A low thermal expansion property of Invar alloys, lower than $10^{-6}$ near the room temperature, is attractive for electric transmission lines and precision machine tools. However, the expansion property of Invar alloys is limited below about 520K, and mechanical properties are relatively low to apply to electric transmission line. In order to improve mechanical properties in this alloy, Ti alloying element was added to the $Ni_{38}-Mo_2-Cr_1-Fe$ invar alloy. The microstructure Ti added alloy showed finer than that of the unalloyed one. It was found that the (Mo, Ti), Mo carbide formed by Ti addition obstacled grain growth by pinning effect and supplyed recrystallization sites during heat-treatment. Optimum heat-treatment conditions with Ti addition were also discussed in the modified Invar alloy.

  • The high-altitude and mobility characteristics of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have made them a key element of new radio systems, particularly because they can exceed the limits of terrestrial networks. However, at high altitudes, UAVs can be significantly affected by intercell interference at a high line-of-sight probability. To mitigate this drawback, we propose an algorithm that selects the optimal beam to reduce interference and maximize transmission efficiency. The proposed algorithm comprises two steps: constructing a user-location-based fingerprint database according to the user types presented herein and cooperative beam selection. Simulations were conducted using cellular cooperative downlink systems for analyzing the performance of the proposed method, and the signal-to-interference-plus-noise cumulative distribution function and spectral efficiency cumulative distribution function were used as performance analysis indicators. Simulation results showed that the proposed algorithm could reduce the effect of interference and increase the performance of the desired signal. Moreover, the algorithm could efficiently reduce overheads and system cost by reducing the amount of resources required for information exchange.

  • Fitting process carried out in automobile transmission assembly line is classified into three classes; heat fitting, press fitting, and their combined fitting. Heat fitting is a method that heats gear to a suitable range under the tempering temperature and squeezes it toward the outer diameter of shaft. Its stress depends on the yield strength of gear. Press fitting is a method that generally squeezes gear toward that of shaft at room temperature by press. Another method heats warmly gear and safely squeezes it toward that of shaft. Warm shrink fitting process for automobile transmission part is now gradually increased, but the parts (shaft/gear) assembled by this process produced dimensional changes of gear profile in both radial and circumferential directions. So that it may cause noise and vibration between gears. In order to solve these problems, we need an analysis of warm shrink fitting process, in which design parameters are involved; contact pressure according to fitting interference between outer diameter of shaft and inner diameter of gear, fitting temperature, and profile tolerance of gear. In this study, an closed form equation to predict contact pressure and fitting load was proposed in order to develop optimization technique of warm shrink fitting process and verified its reliability through the experimental results measured in the field and FEM, that is, thermal-structural coupled field analysis. Actual loads measured in the field have a good agreement with the results obtained by theoretical and finite element analysis and also the expanded amounts of the gear profile in both radial and circumferential directions are within the limit tolerances used in the field.

  • We have proposed a model of a thermal voltage converter(TVC) using the trans-impedance of lossy transmission line and developed a calculation program for ac-dc transfer difference of the TVC. The proposed TVC consists of a thermo-element(f) and a range resistor wire connected in series at the center of coaxial cylinder. The range resistor wire is used to extend the measurement range of the n. The calculated ac-dc transfer differences of the proposed TVC by simulation agree well with the measured values within the uncertainties. The simulated and measured values are agreed within $1{\mu}V/V$ from 40 Hz to 10kHz, within $5{\mu}V/V$ from 20kHz to 100MHz, and within $12{\mu}V/V$ from 200kHz to 1 MHz.

  • A modified transmission line model is proposed for input impedance analysis of a square microstip antenna with single-circularly-polarized. Alog-periodic arrangement with microstrip antenna (LPMA) which consists of 3 resonant element ($3\times1$) is designed for broadband operation ranging from 11.2 GHz to 12.4 GHz, based on this pro- posed model from transmission line model. Aplanar array ($3\times4$array), in which 4sets of the above LPMA are in the same plane, is fabricated for high gain X-band satellite communication antennas. The optimum spacing between each LPMA is determined using computer simulation for the minimum bariation of far field pattern and null. This $3\times4$array has a measured values of gain greater than 8dBi, VSWR les then 2.3, and bandwidth greater than 7% respectively.

  • The outer race of CV(constant velocity) joint is an important load-supporting automotive part, which transmits torque between the transmission gear box and driving wheel. The outer race is difficult to forge because its shape is very complicated and the required dimensional tolerances are very small. Traditional warm and cold forging methods have their own limitations to produce such a complex shaped part; warm forging requires complex system with relatively higher manufacturing cost, while cold forging is not applicable to materials with limited formability. Therefore, multistage forging may be advantageous to produce complex shaped parts. In order to build a multistage forging system, it is necessary to characterize mechanical properties in response to system design parameters such as temperature, forging speed and reduction. For the analysis of formability of multistage forging process, finite element method(FEM) has been used for the process analysis. As a model case, a constant velocity (CV) joint forging process is analyzed by FEM, since CV joint has a complex shape and also its required dimensional tolerances are very tight. The data acquired by FEM is compared with operational forging data obtained from an industrial production line. Based on this comparative analysis, multistage forging process for CV joints is proposed.

  • This paper presents the design and measured performances of an unequal dual-band power divider using lumped elements. After the divider is designed using the conventional single band Wilkinson topology with lumped elements, we obtained the dual band characteristics with filter conversion method. This design method has the features of compact size and easy fabrication, because the high impedance transmission line realizes the lumped elements of equivalent circuit. As an example, an 2:1 divider has been designed and measured at 880 MHz and 1650 MHz in order to show the validity of the proposed unequal divider. The measured performances of the unequal power divider agree with the simulation results.
