One of the major challenge for retrieval performance is the word mismatch between user's queries and documents in information retrieval. To solve the word mismatch problem, we propose a retrieval model based on the degree of association of query concept and word translation probabilities in translation-based model. The word translation probabilities are calculated based on the set of a sentence and its succeeding sentence pair. To validate the proposed method, we experimented on TREC AP test collection. The experimental results show that the proposed model achieved significant improvement over the language model and outperformed translation-based language model.

As the machine learning research has developed, the field of translation and image analysis such as optical character recognition has made great progress. However, video translation that combines these two is slower than previous developments. In this paper, we develop an image translator that combines existing OCR technology and translation technology and verify its effectiveness. Before developing, we presented what functions are needed to implement this system and how to implement them, and then tested their performance. With the application program developed through this paper, users can access translation more conveniently, and also can contribute to ensuring the convenience provided in any environment.

The objective of this paper is to investigate translated individual words in J. S. Gale's "Choon Yang" in comparison with its original OkJoongHwa("獄中花") while referring to early modern bilingual dictionaries and missionaries' ethnography. Gale faced a lot of translation difficulties because the source text had a very different cultural system from the object text. OkJoongHwa was a Korean pansori novel which meant it included many Korean characteristics. However, Gale considered its Korean characteristics were deeply connected with Chinese classics. Even famous people and place names cited from the Chinese classics in OkJoongHwa represented the Korean thinking. Gale tried to faithfully translate the source text as much as possible whether the words were Chinese or Korean. In this paper, we deal with mostly various translation aspects of the Chinese-letter words in OkJoongHwa. Gale's first method to translate words made of Chinese Character is transliteration, the examples of which are the name of Chinese famous people and places, and Chinese poems. The second method is to parallel transliteration and English interpretation equivalent to the Chinese Character. The examples are the names of main characters like "Spring Fragrance or Choonyang," "Mongyong, or Dream-Dragon" and in his translation of word play in Osa (Commissioner), or Kamsa (Governor), kaiksa (a dead beggar). The third is literal translation of Chinese idiomatic phrases as Gale translated 侵魚落雁 into "She'd make the fishes to sink and the wild-geese to drop from the sky." The fourth is a little free translation of the title of public office, the various names of Korean yamen servants and the unique Korean clothing and ornaments. We expect Gale's many translation difficulties as we can see the translated long list of yamen clerks and Korean clothing and ornaments. After our investigation of his translation practices in "Choon Yang" we conclude that he tried to translate its literary language very faithfully though he could not avoid inevitable loss caused by the cultural difference involved in two languages. Gale's "Choon Yang" contributed to introducing the uniqueness of the classical Korean novel and Korean culture to the world more than any other English translation works of that time through his faithful translation.

Four new types of TDM/FDM translation system are proposed in this paper. In the proposed system, the periodically time varying filters (P.V.F) are used in order to modify the general TDM/FDM conversion systems. The new systems have the simple structure as compared with the existing systems and the multiplication rate is reduced to about 2.0${\times}$10 multiplications/s$.$channel. It is verified by the computer simulation that the proposed systems can be used as 12-channel TDM/FDM translation systems.

A new method for the determination of camera system rotation and translation from in 3-D space using recursive least square method is presented in this paper. With this method, the calculation of the equation is found by a linear algorithm. Where the equation are either given or be obtained by solving five or more point correspondences. Good results can be obtained in the presence if more than the eight point. A main advantage of this new method is that it decouple rotation and translation, and then reduces computation. With respect to error in the solution point number in the input image data, adding one more feature correspondence to required minimum number improves the solution accuracy drastically. However, further increase in the number of feature correspondence improve the solution accuracy only slowly. The algorithm proposed by this paper is used to make camera system rotation and translation easy to recognize even when camera system attached at end effecter of six degrees of freedom industrial robot manipulator are applied industrial field.

This paper proposes a method for generating a basis translation matrix between isomorphic extension fields. To generate a basis translation matrix, we need the equality correspondence of a basis between the isomorphic extension fields. Consider an extension field $F_{p^m}$ where p is characteristic. As a brute force method, when $p^m$ is small, we can check the equality correspondence by using the minimal polynomial of a basis element; however, when $p^m$ is large, it becomes too difficult. The proposed methods are based on the fact that Type I and Type II optimal normal bases (ONBs) can be easily identified in each isomorphic extension field. The proposed methods efficiently use Type I and Type II ONBs and can generate a pair of basis translation matrices within 15 ms on Pentium 4 (3.6 GHz) when $mlog_2p$ = 160.

Aligned parallel corpora have proved very useful in many natural language processing tasks, including statistical machine translation and word sense disambiguation. In this paper, we describe an alignment technique for extracting transfer mapping from the parallel corpus. During building our system and data collection, we observe that there are three types of translation approaches can be used. We especially focuses on Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese text lexical translation and a method for extracting transfer mappings for machine translation.

In this knowledge based society, the circulation of knowledge and information is more and more increasing. Terms, as denominations of every specialized concept, has grown in quantity and there are considerable amount of foreign terminology coming to settle down in Korean language. Since terminologies quickly generate and be extinguished, it is important to translate in appropriate way at the very first phase of terminology implementation. This article aims to elaborate the typology of korean terminology translation forms, and propose some guidelines for terminology formation and translation methodology. ISO terminology principle and other institutes' propositions for term formation as well as translational theories constitute two basic columns of the guidelines.

Multicultural family members have difficulty in educating their children due to language differences. In order to solve these difficulties, it is necessary to provide smart translation services that enable them easily and quickly access real-life vocabularies. However, the current automatic translation technology is being developed in dominant languages such as English, Chinese, and Japanese. There are also limitations to translating special-purpose terms such as documents of schools and instructions of public institutions. In this study, we propose a real-time automatic word translation service for multicultural family members who understand beginner level Korean. The service automatically analyzes the semantics of each word in the Korean sentences and provides a word-by-word translation. This study includes semantic analysis research for Korean language, building multilingual translation knowledge, and fusion study of language education. We evaluated the word translation service for migrant women from Vietnam and Japan and obtained meaningful evaluation results.

In Korean-English mixed documents, translated technical words are usually used with the attached full words or original words enclosed with parenthesis. In this paper, a collective method is presented to recognize and extract the translation phrases with using a base translation dictionary. In order to process the unregistered title words and translation words in the dictionary, a phonetic similarity matching method, a translation partial matching method, and a compound word matching method are newly proposed. The experiment result of each method was measured in F-measure(the alpha is set to 0.4) ; exact matching of dictionary terms as a baseline method showed 23.8%, the hybrid method of translation partial matching and phonetic similarity matching 75.9%, and the compound word matching method including the hybrid method 77.3%, which is 3.25 times better than the baseline method.
