전이금속이 치환된 BN 나노튜브의 자성 (Magnetism of BN Nanotubes with Transition Metal Substitution)

  • 지그재그 형태의 (8, 0) BN 나노튜브에서 B 또는 N을 전이금속인 Fe, Co, 또는 Ni로 치환했을 때, 결합길이와 자기모멘트 등 구조적, 자기적 성질을 제일원리계산 방법으로 연구하였다. 전이금속이 치환하게 되면 원래 원 모양이었던 단면의 형태가 찌그러진 타원 모양으로 바뀌게 되며, 결합길이도 원래의 BN 나노튜브에서 B-N의 결합길이보다 길어지는 것으로 계산되었다. 자기모멘트는 B을 치환했을 때가 N을 치환한 경우보다 더 크게 나타났으며, 주로 3d 전자가 자기모멘트 값에 기여한다는 것을 상태밀도 그림으로부터 알 수 있었다.

  • 본 연구에서는 알루미늄 합금인 알루미늄 2014와 6061의 이재를 V형 맞대기 이음을 한 후 정적인장하중을 가하여 모아레법에 광탄성 피복법을 조합한 방법에 의 해 변형율을 실시간(real time)에서 측정하고 유한요소법으로 해석한 결과와 비교검 토하였다.

MBE-growth and Oxygen Pressure Dependent Electrical and Magnetic Properties of Fe3O4 Thin Films

  • Giant magnetoresistance (GMR), tunneling magnetoresistance (TMR), and magnetic random-access memory (MRAM) are currently active research areas in spintronics. The high magnetoresistance and the high spin polarization (P) of electrons in the ferromagnetic electrodes of tunnel junction or intermediate layers are required. Magnetite, Fe3O4, is predicted to possess as half-metallic nature, P ~ 100% spin polarization, and has a high Curie temperature (TC~850 K). Experiments demonstrated that the P~($80{\pm}5$)%, ~($60{\pm}5$)%, and ~40-55% for epitaxial (111), (110) and (001)-oriented Fe3O4 thin films, respectively. Epitaxial Fe3O4 films may enable us to investigate the effects of half metals on the spin transport without grain-boundary scattering.In addition, it has been reported that the Verwey transition (TV, a first order metal-insulator transition) of 120 K in bulk Fe3O4 is strongly affected by many parameters such as stoichiometry and stress, etc. Here we report that the growth modes, magnetism and transport properties of Fe3O4 thin films were strongly dependent on the oxygen pressure during film growth. The average roughness decreases from 1.021 to 0.263 nm for the oxygen pressure increase from $2.3{\times}10-7$ to $8.2{\times}10^{-6}$ Torr, respectively. The 120 K Verwey transition in Fe3O4 was disappeared for the sample grown under high oxygen pressure.

Electrochemical Performances of the Fluorine-Substituted on the 0.3Li2MnO3·0.7LiMn0.60Ni0.25Co0.15O2 Cathode Material

  • The fluorine-substituted $0.3Li_2MnO_3{\cdot}0.7Li[Mn_{0.60}Ni_{0.25}Co_{0.15}]O_{2-x}F_x$ cathode materials were synthesized by using the transition metal precursor, $LiOH{\cdot}H_2O$ and LiF. This was to facilitate the movement of lithium ions by forming more compact SEI layer and to reduce the dissolution of transition metals. The $0.3Li_2MnO_3{\cdot}0.7Li[Mn_{0.60}Ni_{0.25}Co_{0.15}]O_{2-x}F_x$ cathode material was sphere-shaped and each secondary particle had $10{\sim}15{\mu}m$ in size. The fluorine-substituted cathodes initially delivered low discharge capacity, but it gradually increased until 50th charge-discharge cycles. These results indicated that fluorine substitution gave positive effects on the structural stabilization and resistance reduction in materials.

  • Metal oxide nanostructures have been applied to various fields such as energy, catalysts and electronics. We have freely designed one and two-dimensional (1 and 2-D) metal (transition metals and lanthanides) oxide nanostructures, characterized them using various techniques including scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction crystallography, thermogravimetric analysis, FT-IR, UV-visible-NIR absorption, Raman, photoluminescence, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and temperature-programmed thermal desorption (reaction) mass spectrometry. In addition, Ag- and Au-doped metal oxides will be discussed in this talk.

Thermodynamic and Electrical Properties of Aminophenol and Anthranilic Acid Complexes with Some Transition Metals

  • Thermodynamic and electrical functions of aminophenol and anthranilic acid complexes with Mn(Ⅱ), Fe(Ⅱ), Co(Ⅱ), Ni(Ⅱ) and Cu(Ⅱ) were determined. ΔG°, ΔH° and ΔS° were calculated with the help of stability constant values at different temperatures. It was found that the complexing processes have an exothermic nature. The studied complexes behave like semiconductors. The conduction takes place according to hopping mechanism. To show the composition of complexes conductometric and photometric titrations, IR spectra, thermal analysis and X-ray diffraction techniques were employed.

  • In this short review, we explore the recent progress in metal-based gas-sensing techniques. The strong interaction between the metal films and hydrogen gas can be considered to play a considerably important role in the gas-sensing technique. The physical and chemical reactions in Pd-Pd hydride systems were studied in terms of the phase transition and lattice expansion of the metals. Two types of represented detection, electrical and optical, were introduced and discussed along with their advantages.

Exposure and Toxicity Assessment of Ultrafine Particles from Nearby Traffic in Urban Air in Seoul, Korea

  • Objectives We investigated the particle mass size distribution and chemical properties of air pollution particulate matter (PM) in the urban area and its capacity to induce cytotoxicity in human bronchial epithelial (BEAS-2B) cells. Methods To characterize the mass size distributions and chemical concentrations associated with urban PM, PM samples were collected by a 10-stage Micro-Orifice Uniform Deposit Impactor close to nearby traffic in an urban area from December 2007 to December 2009. PM samples for in vitro cytotoxicity testing were collected by a mini-volume air sampler with $PM_{10}$ and $PM_{2.5}$ inlets. Results The PM size distributions were bi-modal, peaking at 0.18 to 0.32 and 1.8 to $3.2{\mu}m$. The mass concentrations of the metals in fine particles (0.1 to $1.8{\mu}m$) accounted for 45.6 to 80.4% of the mass concentrations of metals in $PM_{10}$. The mass proportions of fine particles of the pollutants related to traffic emission, lead (80.4%), cadmium (69.0%), and chromium (63.8%) were higher than those of other metals. Iron was the dominant transition metal in the particles, accounting for 64.3% of the $PM_{10}$ mass in all the samples. We observed PM concentration-dependent cytotoxic effects on BEAS-2B cells. Conclusions We found that exposure to $PM_{2.5}$ and $PM_{10}$ from a nearby traffic area induced significant increases in protein expression of inflammatory cytokines (IL-6 and IL-8). The cell death rate and release of cytokines in response to the $PM_{2.5}$ treatment were higher than those with $PM_{10}$. The combined results support the hypothesis that ultrafine particles from vehicular sources can induce inflammatory responses related to environmental respiratory injury.

3Cr-1Mo강/STS-309L 오버레이 용접부의 천이영역 조직에 미치는 용접조건의 영향 (Effect of Welding Condition on Microstructure of Transient Zone in Overlay Weld of 3Cr-1Mo Steel/STS-309L)

  • Recently developed Austenite stainless steel, 309L was used to overlay on 3Cr-1Mo-V-Ti-B steels, using Electroslag welding process, which wide electrodes were adopted. Transition region in welding interlayer relating to disbonding crack was investigated. Also, the effect of welding condition on the width of transition region and coarsening grains of the austenite were studied. 1) With increasing welding speed the width of martensite at transient region was increased, but the amount of delta ferrite in weld metal was reduced, being fine grained. 2) The form of martensite at the transition region was occurred by reversible transformation during cooling since the interdiffusion of Cr and Ni from weld metal and Fe and C from base metals at the transition region, causes to lowering the concentration of Cr and Ni at the transition region, leading to increasing Ms point. 3) With increasing welding speed, the grain of austenite formed at the welding interface was finer. With increasing welding current under the same welding speed, the grain size of the austenite was finer. At high current, original grain size of the austenite is coarse, but the austenite has fine grains because the austenite was transformed to martensite during cooling. 4) In the case of high welding speed, the width of martensite at the welding interface was increased, but the grain size of austenite at the welding interface was finer. This indicates that the inhibition of disbonding crack may be achieved through dispersening fine carbides in the gain boundary.

Fe-Ni-C합금과 저융점 순금속의 상변태에 미치는 압력의 영향 (The Effect of Pressure on the Phase Transformation in Fe-Ni-C Alloy and Pure Metals)

  • Fe-30Ni-0.35C 합금과 몇가지 저융점 순금속의 상변태에 미치는 압력의 영향에 대하여 PDSC를 이용하여 조사하였다. Fe-30Ni-0.35C 합금의 오스폼트 마르텐사이트 및 마르폼드 마르텐사이트 오스테나이트로 역변태시 압력이 1 기압에서 60기압으로 증가하에 따라. $A_s$점이 약 $2~4^{\circ}C$ 저하하며, 이것은 상전이시의 체적변화가 음의 값이 되기 때문이다. 또한 $A_f$ 점은 압력이 증가함에 따라 변함없이 일정하거나 매우 미소한 상승을 나타내는데, 이것은 압력이 증가할수록 탄화물의 석출이 촉진되기 때문이다. Fe-30Ni-0.35C 합금의 오스폼드 마르텐사이트의 역변태시 엔탈피변화는 압력이 1 기압에서 60기압으로 상승함에 따라 10~14J/g 증가한다. 순금속 Se, Sn, Pb, Zn, Te 등의 용융점은 압력이 1기압에서 60기압으로 증가함에 따라 매우 완만하게 상승하며, 용융시의 엔탈피변화는 압력의 증가에 따라 거의 변화가 없거나 미소 증가를 나타낸다.
