Transition Metal Complexes Derived From 2-hydroxy-4-(p-tolyldiazenyl)benzylidene)-2-(p-tolylamino)acetohydrazide Synthesis, Structural Characterization, and Biological Activities

  • Mononuclear Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Mn(II), Zn(II), Fe(III), Ru(III), and UO2(II) complexes of 2-hydroxy-4-(p-tolyldiazenyl)benzylidene)-2-(p-tolylamino)acetohydrazide (H2L) were prepared by direct method. The ligand and its complexes were isolated in solid state and characterized by analytical techniques such as elemental and thermal analyses, molar conductance, magnetic susceptibility measurements and spectroscopic techniques such as UV-Visible, IR, 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR. The spectral data indicated that the ligand acted as neutral/monobasic bidentate or monobasic/dibasic tridentate ligand bonded to the metal ions through the oxygen atom of ketonic or enolic carbonyl group, azomethine nitrogen atom and deprotonated/protonated phenolic oxygen atom forming either tetragonally distorted octahedral or octahedral. Antimicrobial activities of the ligand and its complexes were evaluated against Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis and Aspergillus niger by well diffusion method. The results of antifungal activity showed that the Fe(III) complex (10) exhibited higher antifungal against Aspergillus niger than the other complexes. However, the results of antibacterial activity revealed that Cu(II) complex (4) is the most active against Escherichia coli while the Cu(II) complex (5) and Fe(III) complex (10) exhibited higher antibacterial effect on Bacillus subtilis than the other complexes.

Effect of Transition Metal Oxides Addition on Yttria - stabilized Zirconia for improving Physical and Mechanical Properties

  • Mechanical properties of Y2O3-containing tetragonal ZrO2 polycrystals(Y-TZP) were investigated. Several additives were used to modify the hardness and fracture toughness of Y-TZP. The effects of these individual additives were discussed and their interactions were also analysed. Each additive, such as CoO, Fe2O3, MnO2 was found to deteriorate the mechanical properties of Y-TZP when it was used singly. But the fracture toughness of Y-TZP was significantly improved when these additives and Al2O3 were added in combination at a certain ratio. The addition of CoO, Fe2O3 and MnO2 into Y-TZP resulted in the more complex behavior of fracture toughness and hardness. The specimen with 1.5 wt%-Fe2O3, 3.0 wt% -Al2O3 and 1.5 wt%-CoO showed the monoclinic to tetragonal phase ratio of 18% and the highest toughness of $10.8MPa{\cdot}m1/2$ with Vickers hardness of 1201 kgf/mm2. However, the toughness decreased as the ratio increased and macrocracks developed beyond the ratio of 25%. Sample No. 16 is improved high Physical and Mechanical Properties.

천이금속산화물이 첨가된 Y-TZP 세라믹스의 상안정성 및 물성특성 (Phase Stability and Characteristics of Y-TZP Ceramics doped with Transition Metal Oxides)

  • The effects of the additions of transition metal oxides on ZrO$_2$ - Y$_2$O$_3$ (Y$_2$O$_3$ - containing tetragonal zirconia polycrystals : Y-TZP) system has been studied by investigating fracture toughness and phase stability of the sintered specimens. In the specimens sintered at 1450$^{\circ}C$ for 2hrs in air the phase transformation from tetragonal to monoclinic was observed. The ratios of monoclinic phase to tetragonal phase were changed with the additions of CoO, Fe$_2$O$_3$ and MnO$_2$, respectively, from 0.00 to 8.00wt%. The fracture toughness was increased with increasing the monoclinic to tetragonal phase ratio and was maximum at the ratio of about 18%. However, the hardness was decreased with increasing the ratio. The additions of CoO, Fe$_2$O$_3$ and MnO$_2$ together into Y-TZP resulted in more complex behaviors of fracture toughness and hardness. The specimen with the additions of 1.5wt% Fe$_2$O$_3$, 3.0wt% Al$_2$O$_3$ and 1.5wt% CoO showed the monoclinic to tetragonal phase ratio of 18% and the highest toughness of 10.8 MPa.m$\^$$\frac{1}{2}$/ and Vickers hardness of 1201kgf/mm$^2$.

Fluorescence Quenching of Norfloxacin by Divalent Transition Metal Cations

  • Fluorescence quenching of norfloxacin (NOR) by Cu2+, Ni2+, Co2+ and Mn2+ was studied in water. The change in the fluorescence intensity and lifetime was measured as a function of quencher concentration at various temperatures. According to the Stern-Volmer plots, the NOR was quenched both by collisions and complex formation with the same quencher. However, the static quenching had a more important effect on the emission. Large static and dynamic quenching constants support significant ion-dipole and orbital-orbital interactions between NOR and cations. The both quenching constants by Cu2+ were the largest among quenchers. Also, quenching mechanism of Cu2+ was somewhat different. The change in the absorption spectra due to the quencher provided information on static quenching. The fluorescence of NOR was relatively insensitive to both the dynamic and static quenching compared with other quinolone antibiotics. This property can be explained by the twisted intramolecular charge transfer.

Interaction of Ruthenium(II)[(1,10-phenanthroline)2benzodipyrido[3,2-a:2',3'-c]-phenazine]2+ with Single Stranded Poly(dA) and Poly(dT): Turning off the Light Switch

  • The spectral properties, namely the circular dichroism, electric absorption and luminescence properties, of Λ- and Δ-[Ru(II)(1,10-phenanthroline)2benzodipyrido[b:3,2-h:2',3'-j]phenazine]2+ ([Ru(phen)2BDPPZ]2+) in the presence and absence of single stranded poly(dA) and poly(dT) were compared in this work. In the presence of single stranded DNAs, hypochromism in the absorption spectrum and significant changes in the circular dichroism spectrum in the ligand absorption band were apparent, indicating the strong interaction of the [Ru(phen)2BDPPZ]2+ complex with the single stranded DNAs. The luminescence intensity of the Ru(II) complex decreased stoichiometrically with increasing concentrations of the single stranded DNAs. All of these spectral changes were independent of the configuration of the Ru(II) complex and the nature of the DNA bases. Therefore, it is conceivable that both enantiomers of the [Ru(phen)2BDPPZ]2+ complex interact electrostatically with the negatively charged phosphate groups of DNA. However, the spectral properties of [Ru(II)(1,10-phenanthroline)3]2+ were not altered even in the presence of single stranded DNAs. Therefore, the size of the ligand involved in the interaction of the metal complex with the phosphate group of DNA may play an important role, even when the nature of the interaction is electrostatic.

Quantum Chemical Studies on Nicotinato Lead(II) Complex [Pb(II)(C5H4NCOO)2]

  • The title compound of nicotinato lead(II) complex [Pb$(C_5H_4NCOO)_2$] has been optimized at B3LYP/LANL2DZ and HF/LANL2DZ levels of theory. The calculated results show that the lead(II) ion adopts 2- coordinate geometry, which is the same as its crystal structure and different from the 4-coordinate geometry of isonicotinato lead(II) complex. Atomic charge distributions indicate that during forming the title compound, each nicotinic acid ion transfers their negative charges to central lead(II) ion. The electronic spectra calculated by B3LYP/LANL2DZ level show that there exist two absorption bands, which have some red shifts compared with those of isonicotinato lead(II) complex and the electronic transitions are mainly derived from intraligand $\pi$ -$\pi$ transition and ligand-to-metal charge transfer (LMCT) transition. CIS-HF method is not suitable for the system studied here. The thermodynamic properties of the title compound at different temperatures have been calculated and corresponding relations between the properties and temperature have also been obtained. The second order optical nonlinearity was calculated, and the molecular hyperpolarizability was $1.147754{\times}10^{-30}$ esu.

질소-산소 주개 거대고리 화합물-금속착물의 수용액에서의 안정도상수 (Stability Constants of Nitrogen-Oxygen Donor Macrocyclic Ligand-Metal Ion Complexes in Aqueous Solutions)

  • 고리를 구성하는 원자의 수가 15개에서 18개인 디아자 크라운계의 고대고리 화합물인 1,12-diaza-3, 4 : 9, 10-dibenzo-5, 8-dioxacyclopentadecane(NtnOenH$_4$), 1,13-diaza-3,4 : 10,11-dibenzo-hydroxy-5,9-dioxacyclohexadecane(NtnOtnH$_4$), 1,13-diaza-3,4 : 10,11-dibenzo-15-hydroxy-5,9-dioxacyclohexadecane(Ntn(OH)OtnH$_4$), 1,15-diaza-3,4 : 12,13-dibenzo-5,8,11-trioxacycloheptadecane (NenOdienH$_4$) and 1,15-diaza-3,4 : 12,13-dibenzo-5,8,11-trioxacyclooctadecane(NtnOdienH$_4$)의 양성자화와 금속이온과의 착물 형성을 전위차적정법과 핵자기 공명법으로 연구하였다. 양성자화상수는 크라운 에테르의 염기도를 예측하는데 상용하였다. 본 연구에서 사용한 거대고리 화합물의 염기도 순서는 NenOdienH$_4$ < Ntn(OH)OtnH$_4$ < NtnOenH$_4$ < NtnOtnH$_4$ < NtnOdienH$_4$였다. 염기도의 이와 같은 변화를 거대고리에 대한 치환기와 양성자화가 일어날 때의 고리의 비틀림 정도로 설명하였다. 금속이온과의 착물 형성에 대한 안전도상수는 전이금속이온에 대해서는 Co(II) < Ni(II) < Cu(II) < Zn(II)순이었으며, 중금속이온에 대해서는 Cd(II) < pb(II) < Hg(II)의 순이었다. 금속 착물 형성에 대한 이와 같은 안정도상수의 변화에는 Co(II), Ni(II) 및 Cu(II) 착물의 경우 리간드 고리의 크기가 영향을 미치고 있었으며, Zn(II), Cd(II), pb(II) 및 Hg(II) 착물의 경우에는 리간드의 염기도가 주로 영향을 미치고 있었다. 후전이금속 착물에 대한 $^1$H와 $^{13}$C 핵자기공명 분광법에서는 고리의 질소원자가 산소원자보다 금속이온에 더 큰 친화력을 가짐을 알 수 있었고, 금속이온과 착물을 형성할 때에 고리의 평면성이 상실되고 있음도 밝혀졌다.

여러자리 질소-산소계 시프염기 리간드와 전이금속착물의 합성 및 전기화학적 특성 (Synthesis and Properties of Polydentate Schiff Base Ligands having $N_nO_2$ (n=3~5) Donor Atoms and Bromine Substituent and their Transition Metal Complexes)

  • 브롬 치환기를 가지는 여러자리 시프염기인 5-Br-BSDT(bis(5-bromosalicylaldehyde)diethy- lenetriamine), 5-Br-BSTT(bis(5-bromosalicylaldehyde)triethylenetetramine)와 5-Br-BSTP(bis(5-bromosalicylaldehyde)tetraethylenepentamine)를 합성하여 DMSO 용매에서 이들 리간드들과 구리(II), 니켈(II) 및 아연(II) 등의 전이금속과의 안정도 상수값을 폴라로그래피를 이용하여 구하였다. 이때 금속과 리간드는 1 : 1착물을 형성하였고, 안정도 상수값은 금속으로서는 Cu(II)>Ni(II)>Zn(II) 순서로, 리간드로서는 5-Br-BSTP>5-Br-BSTT>5-Br-BSDT 순서로 나타남으로서 주개 원자수의 증가에 의존한다는 사실을 알았다. 엔탈피와 엔트로피는 모두 음의 값을 나타내었는데 흡열반응으로서 금속이온과 리간드가 매우 강하게 결합하고 있음을 알 수 있고 극성을 가지는 금속착물이 생성되어 용매인 DMSO와 아주 강한 상호작용을 함으로써 큰 음의 엔트로피 값을 가진 것으로 생각된다.

전이금속(Ⅳ) 착물들의 전자적 성질과 전기 화학적 거동에 관한 연구(Ⅳ) (A Study on the Electronic Properties and Electrochemical Behavior of Transition Metal(Ⅳ) Complexes (Ⅳ))

  • 유기 리간드(디크로로 비스[η-싸이크로 펜타디엔닐])을 가지고 전이금속 4가$(Nb^{4+}와\;Mo^{4+}$와의 착물들에 대한 거동을 UV-vis 분광학적, 자기적, 그리고 전기화학적 방법에 의해 조사하였다. 2 또는 3개의 에너지 흡수띠가 이들 착물들의 스펙트라에 의해 관찰되었다. 결정장 갈라짐 에너지 크기와 스핀 짝지움 에너지 그리고 결합 세기는 착물들의 스펙트라로부터 얻어졌다. 이들은 비편재화이고, 낮은 스핀 상태이며 그리고 강한 결합 세기임을 알았다. 자기쌍극자 모멘트는 상자기성과 반자기성 착물이었다. 착물들의 산화환원 과정은 비수용매속에서 순환 전압전류법에 의해서 조사되었다. Nb-C 착물의 산화환원 반응과정은 일전자의 확산과 반응 전류에 의한 짝-단일 반응이었고 또한 Mo-C 착물에서는 일전자의 반응전류에 의한 짝-단일 반응이었다.

  • branched poly(ethylene imine) (BPEI)와 2가 전이금속인 Fe(II), Co(II), Ni(II) 및 Cu(II)간의 착물생성을 가시선 흡수 및 30${\circ}$, 0.1M KCl수용액 중에서 pH적정법으로 연구하였다. M(II)-BPEI착물의 안정도 상수는 M(II)-BPEI착물의 안정도 상수는 Gergor등에 의해 수정된 Bjerrum법으로 계산하였다. M(II)-BPEI착물의 생성 곡선으로 부터 ethylene imine group이 Fe(II)이온에 네자리, Co(II), Ni(II) 및 Cu(II) 이온에 각각 두 자리 배위된 착물이 생성됨을 알 수 있었다. Cu(II)-BPEI착물의 경우 pH 3.4~3.8을 기준으로 산성도가 감소 또는 증가함에 따라 최대 흡광도(${\lambda}_{max}$)는 장파장 쪽으로 이동하고, 흡광도는 pH증가에 따라 감소하였다. 총괄 안정도 상수(log $K_2$)는 Co(II) < Cu(II) < Ni(II) < Fe(II)순으로 증가하였다.
