  • Due to the increasing interest in safety and consistent product quality over a past few decades, demand for effective quality monitoring and safe operation in the modern industry has propelled research into statistical based fault detection and diagnosis methods. This paper describes the application of Hotelling $T^2$ index based Principal Component Analysis (PCA) method for fault detection and diagnosis in industrial processes. Multivariate statistical process control techniques are now widely used for performance monitoring and fault detection. Conventional methods such as PCA are suitable only for steady state processes. These conventional projection methods causes false alarms or missing data for the systems with transient values of processes. These issues significantly compromise the reliability of the monitoring systems. In this paper, a reliable method is used to overcome false alarms occur due to varying process conditions and missing data problems in transient states. This monitoring method is implemented and validated experimentally along with matlab. Experimental results proved the credibility of this fault detection method for both the steady state and transient operations.

  • Modern power systems are very complex and to model them completely is impractical for electromagnetic transient studies. Therefore areas outside the immediate area of interest must be represented by some form of Frequency Dependent Network Equivalent (FDNE). In this paper a method for developing Frequency Dependent AC system Equivalent (FDACSE) using Z-domain rational Function Fitting is presented and demonstrated. The FDACSE is generated by Linearized Least Squares Fitting(LSF) of the frequency response of a Z-domain formulation. This 1 & 2 port FDACSE have been applied to the New Zealand South Island AC power system. The electromagnetic transient package PSCAD/EMTDC is used to assess the transient response of the 1 & 2 port FDACSE developed under different condition (linear load, fault and nonlinear loading). The study results have indicated the robustness and accuracy of 1 & 2 port FDACSE for electromagnetic transient studies.

  • The initial condition should be consistent with real reactor core state for the simulation of the core transient. The initial xenon distribution, which cad not be measured in the core, has a significant effect on the transient with xenon dynamics of PWR. In the simulation of the transient stating from non-equilibrium xenon state, the accurate initialization of the non-equilibrium xenon distribution is essential to predict the core transient behavior. In this study, the xenon initialization method to predict the core transient more accurately was developed through the first-order perturbation theory of the relationship between simulated power and measured power distribution and verified by the application of the simulation for a startup test of Yonggwang Unit 3.

  • Numerical analysis has been performed to investigate the rotor speed and pitch range variations when the airspeed is increased in autorotation. Transient Simulation Method(TSM) was used to obtain the steady states of autorotation. The rotor blade was analyzed by the two-dimensional compressible Navier-Stokes solver in order to adapt to the airspeed increase and the results were used in the transient simulation method. Meanwhile, the Pitt/Peters inflow theory was used to supply the induced velocity fields. For the prescribed torque equilibrium state, the combinations of velocity, shaft angle, and pitch angle were produced to investigate the rotor speeds and variable ranges. The rotor tip Mach number and rotor speed were correlated and the trim range of pitch angle was observed with respect to the shaft angle decrease.

  • This paper presents a zero-transient current control method for PWM dimming of LED. Since the proposed LED current control method has no transient state, it features a high resolution, high linearity, and no current overshoot through LED along a wide dimming range. The operational principles of the proposed LED current control circuit are presented. To confirm the validity of the proposed method experimental results from a prototype circuit of the 46-inch LCD TV are given.

  • In this study was proposed a transient response analysis technique of a rotor system, applying the generalized FE modeling method of a rotor-bearing system considering a base-transferred shock force and together the state-space Newmark method of direct time integration scheme based on the average velocity concept. Experiments were performed to a test rig of a mock-up rotor-bearing system with series of half-sine shock waves imposed by an electromagnetic shaker, and quantitative error analyses between analytical and experimental results were carried out. The transient reponses of the rotor were sensitive to duration times and shape-qualities of the shock waves, and overally the analytical results agreed quite well with the experimental ones. Particularly, in cases that the frequencies, $1/(2{\times}duration\;time)$, of the shock waves were close to the critical speed of the rotor-bearing system, resonances occurred and the transient responses of the rotor were amplified.

  • A modeling method for the modal and the transient vibration analysis of a multi-packet blade system excited by nozzle jet forces is presented in this paper. Blades are idealized as cantilever beams and the elastic structures like disc and shroud connecting blades are modeled as coupling stiffnesses. A modified Campbell diagram is proposed to identify true resonance frequencies of the multi-packet blade system. Different from the SAFE diagram that employs three dimensional space, the modified Campbell diagram proposed in this study employs a plane to find the true resonance frequencies. To verify the existence of true resonance frequencies, nozzle jet forces are modeled as periodic forces and transient vibration analysis were performed with the modeling method.

  • A program of steady-state and transient performance analysis for a 200kW-class small turboshaft engine with free power turbine was developed. An existing turbojet engine was used for the gas generator of the developed turboshaft engine, which was modified to satisfy performance requirements of this turboshaft engine. To verify the accuracy of steady-state performance program for this engine: the program was applied to the gas turbine test unit of the same type, and the analysis results were compared with experimental results. The developed transient performance analysis program using the CMF (Constant Mass Flow) method was utilized to analyze the cases of step increase and ramp increase of the fuel.

  • In this paper, we present an accurate and stable method for the solution of the transient electromagnetic response from the conducting wire structures using the time domain integral equation. By using an implicit scheme with the central finite difference approximation for the time domain electric field integral equation, we obtain the transient response from a wire scatterer illuminated by a plane wave and a conducting wire antenna with an impressed voltage source. Also, we consider a wire above a 3-dimensional conducting object. Numerical results are presented, which show the validity of the presented methodology, and compared with a conventional method using backward finite difference approximation.

  • Transient magnetic diffusion process in a melt-cast BSCCO-2212 tube is analyzed by an analytical method. The transient diffusion partial differential equation is transformed into an ordinary differential equation by integral method. The penetration depth of magnetic field into a superconducting tube is obtained by solving the differential equation numerically. The results show that the penetration depth as a function of time which is somewhat different from the results by Bean's critical state model. The reason of the difference between the present results and that of Bean's model is discussed and compared in this paper.
