The study deals with the problem of transformation of the teacher's role in the information society. A comparative analysis of the competencies of the teacher, declared in the Pedagogical Constitution of Europe, the documents of the New Ukrainian School, the scientific research of contemporary scholars was conducted. The correlation analysis of the survey results for teachers and students' parents on their expectations of contemporary teachers was presented. It was noted that the analyzed views of scientists, legislative documents, and the results of sociological research help to modify the educational process of competitive and effective prospective teachers' training. Based on the survey results the acmeograms of the teacher's main role positions as an orientation for training of prospective teachers were developed.

The purpose of this study was to provide teachers with suggestions on how to teach the unit of finding the area of plane figure by analyzing students' different solution methods. The solution methods were analyzed according to how the original area of the given figure was kept: partition, transformation, and elimination. The partition method was most used. With regard to transformation, students seemed to find it easy to use the area of rectangle. With regard to elimination, students were successful using elimination to find the area of a given figure but had difficulty in producing a formula from the method. The teacher played a key role to encourage students to employ different solution methods, and gave them opportunities to compare and contrast various methods. A cautionary note is that, with too much emphasis on 'variety', the mathematical efficiency may be lost in the process. It suggests that a teacher should be careful to establish appropriate sociomathe- matical norms with students in order that they can make their own judgment on which solution method is mathematically worth and efficient.

This study examined mathematics class using the CAS(Computer Algebra Systems, CAS) targeted for high school first grade students. We examined what kind of transforming of representations got up according to mathematics subject contents at this classroom. This study analyzed 15 math lessons during one month and the focus of analysis was on the classroom teacher. In particular, for transformations among representations this study mainly investigated from theoretical frameworks such as transparent and opaque representation of Lesh, Behr & Post(1987), descriptive and depictive representation of Kosslyn(1994). According to the results of this study, CAS technology affected the transforming of representations in high school math class and this transforming of representations improved the students' thinking and understanding of mathematical concepts and provided the opportunity to create the representation of individual student. Such results of this study suggest the importance of CAS technology's role in transforming of representations. and they offer the chance to reconsider the fact that CAS technology could be used to improve students' ability of transforming representations at the mathematics class.
