A three-dimensional model was developed in order to simulate heat and fluid flow of a continuous casting billet. The model was coded with the general-purpose CFD program FIDAP, using the finite element method. The present model consists of 2 individual calculation schemes, named model 1 and model 2. Mold region only was calculated to check the pouring stream through submerged nozzle with model 1. Entire region, which consists of mold, secondary cooling, radiation cooling was calculated to predict crater end position, temperature profile and solid shell profile(model 2). Standard $k-{\bullet}\hat{A}$ turbulence model has been applied to simulate the turbulent flow induced by submerged nozzle. Enthalpy method was adopted for the latent heat of solidification. Fluid flow in mushy zone was treated using variable viscosity approach. The more casting speed and superheat increased, the more metallurgical length increased. The shell thickness at the mold exit is proved to be mainly controlled by superheat by the present simulation. It may be concluded that the present model can be successfully applied far the prediction of heat and fluid flow behavior in the continuous casting process.
Transition Nozzles are used in industrial air-cooled heat exchangers and widely used in industrial sites as an important component in the heat energy transfer between a heat source and an actuating fluid. There is a worldwide demand for transition nozzles with various materials and shapes, depending on the use environment. This paper aims to improve the transition nozzle forging process suitable for the production of many varieties using Steps 1 to 6 of the TRIZ Methodology for Problem Solving. By utilizing the TRIZ Methodology, this study derives a method to design a variable mold, which is more efficient and can reduce costs compared with having to use several molds. To verify the suitability of the methods derived using the TRIZ technique, a forging analysis is performed on a transition nozzle using DEFORMⓇ, a commercial program for plasticity analysis, and the nozzle material is evaluated for damage as a result of deformation of the transition nozzle thickness. The derived methods can be applied to transition nozzle formation equipment to improve the efficiency of the formation process.
Mircolens and microlens arrays are realized using a novel fabrication technology based on the exposure of a resist, usually PMMA, to deep X-rays and subsequent thermal treatment. Hot embossing process is also studied for mass production. The fabrication technology is very simple and produces microlenses and microlens arrays with good surface roughness of several nm. The molecular weight and glass transition temperature of PMMA is reduced when it is irradiated with deep X-rays. The microlenses were produced through the effects of volume change, surface tension. and reflow during thermal treatment of irradiated PMMA. A hot embossing machine is designed and manufactured with a servo motor transfer system. The hot embossing process follows the steps of heating mold to the desired temperature, embossing a mold insert on substrate. cooling mold to the de-embossing temperature. and de-embossing. Microlenses were produced with diameters ranging from 30 to 1500 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. The surface X-ray mask is also fabricated to realize microlens arrays on PMMA sheet with a large area.
When the preform is composed of more than two layers with different in-plane permeability in resin transfer molding, effective average permeability should be determined for the flow analysis in the mold. The most frequently used averaging scheme is the weighted average scheme, but it does not account for the transverse flow between adjacent layers. A new averaging scheme is proposed predicting the effective permeability of the multi-layered preform, which accounts for the transverse flow effect. The new scheme is verified by measuring the effective permeability of the multi-layered preforms and the difference in each flow front position.
The solidification process of Al 4.5%Cu alloy is numerically studied in the presence of contact resistance between mold and cast. Natural convection is considered in the liquid and mushy regions. The porosity approach is applied to the mushy zone modeling and linear variation of the solid fraction on the temperature is assumed. Results show that the mushy region is wider in the case with a contact resistance compared to the perfect contact condition. The temperature of the cast with a temporal variation in the contact heat transfer coefficient changes very rapidly in the early stage of the casting process compared to that with constant contact heat transfer coefficient.
We report a fabrication of 6, 13-bis(triisopropylsilylethynyl) (TIPS) pentacene nanowires that made on Si substrates by liquid bridge-nanotransfer molding (LB-nTM) with polyurethane acrylate (PUA) mold. LB-nTM is based on the direct transfer of various materials from a stamp to a substrate via a liquid bridge between them. In liquid bridge-transfer process, the liquid layer serves as an adhesion layer to provide good conformal contact and form covalent bonding between the TIPS-pentacene nanowire and the Si substrate. The patterned TIPS-Pentacene nanowires have been investigated by Atomic force microscopy (AFM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and electrical properties.

Organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs) were fabricated by using the transfer patterning method. In order to remove Au pattern easily, UV-curable polymer mold was surface treated. Au source/drain (S/D) pattern was transferred to insulator-coated substrate surface. Fabricated OTFTs were compared to OTFTs using vacuum-deposited Au S/D. Additionally, transistor diodes were characterized.
