The feasible constant speed helical trajectories for propeller driven airplanes

  • The motion of propeller driven airplanes, flying at constant speed on ascending or descending helical trajectories is analyzed. The dynamical abilities of the airplane are shown to result in restrictions on the ranges of the geometrical parameters of the helical path. The physical quantities taken into account are the variation of air density with altitude, the airplane mass change due to fuel consumption, its load factor, its lift coefficient, and the thrust its engine can produce. Formulas are provided for determining all the airplane dynamical parameters on the trajectory. A procedure is proposed for the construction of tables from which the flyability of trajectories at a given angle of inclination and radius can be read, with the corresponding minimum and maximum speeds allowed, the final altitude reached and the amount of fuel burned. Sample calculations are shown for the Cessna 182, a Silver Fox like unmanned aerial vehicle, and the C-130 Hercules.

Real time trajectory control for two wheeled mobile robot under dynamic environments

  • In this paper, a method of generating trajectories in real time for a mobile robot in a dynamic environment is proposed. Specifically, this method is focused on soccer-playing robots that need to calculate trajectories in real time, which are constantly subject to rapidly change as targets and obstacles move. The robots also should move at the fastest available speed, while tracking the generated trajectories. The method proposed in this paper solves the geometric problem of finding a smooth curve that joins two endpoints. To have this solved, we assign five constraints to each endpoint, which are the usual x, y, theta, and curvature as well as the influence of the initial robot velocity on the path.   • Objects, which change their positions over time such as cars, are called moving objects. Trajectories of a moving object have large volumes because trajectories are accumulated. Efficient indexing techniques for searching these large volumes of trajectories are needed in the moving object databases. Especially the TB-tree which supports bundling trajectories is suitable for processing combined queries which have 2 steps: first step is selecting trajectories (range search), next is selecting the parts of each trajectory (trajectory search). But the TB-tree has unnecessary disk accesses cause of lack of spatial discrimination in range queries. In this paper, we propose and implement the splitting polity which can reduce dead spaces of non-leaf node in order to process range queries efficiently. The policy has better performance about range queries than the TB-tree as well as the advantages of the TB-tree, such as highly space utilization and efficient trajectory extraction. This paper shows that the newly proposed split policy has better performance in processing the range queries than that of the TB-tree by experimental evaluation.

Trajectories of Marital Satisfaction of Married Couples From Childbirth to 5 Years Postpartum: The Panel Study of Korea Children 2008-2012 (한국 아동패널 2008-2012 자료를 활용한 자녀 출산 후 5년간의 부부의 결혼만족도 변화궤적)

  • Objective: This study aimed to explore marital satisfaction changes of married couples from childbirth to 5 years postpartum using the data from the Panel Study of Korean Children 2008-2012. Methods: A total of 2,072 coupes were followed longitudinally during the first 5 years after childbirth. Their repeatedly measured marital satisfaction were analyzed with growth modeling analyses. Results: Husbands and wives had different marital satisfaction trajectories regarding the rate of change and initial marital satisfaction scores. Further, the facets of postpartum marital satisfactions change varied depending on the couples' first, second, and third (or more) birth(s). Conclusion: In general, Korean married couples' marital satisfaction has a decreasing tendency after childbirth. Fathers' marital satisfaction is generally higher but more rapidly decreases compared to mothers' marital satisfaction. Also, couples after first child birth experience a faster decline of marital satisfaction compared to couples after second or third (or more) birth(s).

A Study on the Feature of Using Media for Education through Longitudinal Data Analysis (종단자료 분석을 통한 청소년 미디어 교육 활용 특성 분석 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the changing trajectory of using educational media through longitudinal data analysis. We categorize the feature of using educational media as usage for learning, usage for information, and usage for the game. We explore the longitudinal changing patterns of usage for learning, usage for information, and usage for the game by LGM(Longitudinal Growth Modeling). We also find the gender difference between these longitudinal changing trajectories. We used 3,499 samples of KYPS middle school second-grade panel data. We found these results: (a) Both usage for learning and information are statically significant variability in initial level and rate of change. Both of the changing trajectories have increased. (b) Girls have a higher rate of the change both in the usage of learning and information than boys over time. (c) There is a statistically significant individual variability in initial levels and rate of change in the usage of the game over time. (d) Boys have a higher rate of initial value than girls in the usage of games, but there is no significant difference in the rate of changing trajectories.

Static and dynamic spectral properties of the monophthong vowels in Seoul Korean: Implication on sound change (서울 방언 단모음의 소리 변화와 음향 단서 연구: 단일지점 포먼트와 궤적 양상)

  • While acoustic studies in the past decade documented a raised /o/ by showing their lowered first formants (F1) almost overlapped with those of high back vowel /u/, no consensus has been made in terms of how this /o/-raising affects the vowels as a system in Seoul Korean. The current study aimed to investigate the age- and gender-related differences of the relative distance among the vowels to better understand the influence of this on-going sound change on the vowel system. We measured the static and dynamic spectral characteristics (F1 and F2) of the seven Korean monophthong vowels /e a ʌ o u ɨ i/ in the spontaneous speech of Seoul Corpus, and depicted the patterns of 30 individual speakers (10 speakers in each group of teens, 20s and 40s) as a function of age and gender. The static spectral examination showed low F1 values of /o/ in the spontaneous speech corpus confirming the vowel /o/ raising, and also revealed greater F2 values of /u, ɨ/ suggesting their anterior articulations. The tendencies were stronger when the speakers were younger and female. The spectral trajectories further showed that the F1 and F2 between /o/ and /u/ were differentiated throughout the vowel mid-point although the trajectories gradually merged near the vowel mid point in the older male speakers' productions. The acoustic evidence of contrast among /o, u, ɨ/ supports that the raised /o/ is not indicative of a merger with /u/ but rather implying a chain-like vowel shift in the Seoul Korean.

Design of C-shape Sharp Turn Trajectory using Neural Networks for Fish Robot (신경회로망을 사용한 물고기 로봇의 빠른 방향 전환 궤적 설계)

  • In this study, in order to improve and optimize the performance of the turning mechanism for a fish robot in the fluid, we propose the tail joint trajectories using neural networks to mimic the CST(C-shape Sharp Turn) patterns of a real fish which is optimized in the natural environment. In order to mimic the CST patterns of a fish, we convert the sequential recording CST patterns into the coordinate data, and change the numerical coordinate data into a functions. We change the motion functions to the relative joint angles which is adapted to suit robot's shape and data. However, these relative joint trajectories obtained by the sequential recording of the carp have low-precision. It is difficult to apply to the control of a fish robot. Therefore, the relative joint trajectories are interpolated using neural networks with superior generalization ability and applied to the fish robot. we have found that the proposed method using neural networks is superior to ones using high-order polynomial equation through the computer simulations.

The Impact of Social Capital on Depression Trajectories in Later Life (노년기 사회자본의 차이가 우울궤적에 미치는 영향)

  • This study conducted a longitudinal analysis to identify the impact of social capital on depression trajectories in later life. For data analysis, the Korean welfare panel data(2006-2012) was utilized and 4001 older adults aged 65 and older were included in the final sample. The results showed that social trust was significantly associated with depression scores at baseline but did not predicted the rate of change in depression over time. A higher level of reciprocity significantly predicted the faster decline in depression over time. For social participation through donation or volunteer, the percentage of participation was very low and it was not significantly related to depression trajectories. Finally as the satisfaction from social relationship becomes more positive, the rate of change in depression tended to decline faster over time. The results of this study indicates that in order to prevent or delay depression in later life, we should help older adults accumulate positive social capital such as social trust and reciprocity through active social interaction.

Latent Classes of Depressive Symptom Trajectories of Adolescents and Determinants of Classes (청소년 우울 증상의 변화 궤적에 따른 잠재계층유형 및 영향요인)

  • Purpose: Untreated depression in adolescents affects their entire life. It is important to detect and intervene early depression in adolescence considering the characteristics of adolescent's depressive symptoms accompanied by internalization and externalization. The aim of this study was to identify latent classes of depressive symptom trajectories of adolescents and determinants of classes in Korea. Methods: The three time-point (2018~2020) data derived from the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey 2018 were used (N=2,325). Latent Growth Curve Modeling (LGCM) was conducted to explore the depressive symptom trajectories in all adolescents, and Latent Class Growth Modeling (LCGM) was conducted to identify each latent class. Multinomial logistic regression analysis was performed to confirm the determinants of each latent class. Results: The LGCM results showed that there was no statistically significant change in all adolescents' depressive symptoms for 3 years. However, the LCGM results showed that four latent classes showing different trajectories were distinguished: 1) Low-stable (intercept=14.39, non-significant slope), 2) moderate-increasing (intercept=19.62, significantly increasing slope), 3) high-stable (intercept=26.30, non-significant slope), and 4) high-rapidly decreasing (intercept=26.34, significantly rapidly decreasing slope). The multinomial logistic regression analysis showed that the significant determinants (i.e., gender, self-esteem, aggression, somatization, peer relationship) of each latent class were different. Conclusion: When screening adolescent's depression, it is necessary to monitor not only direct depression symptoms but also self-esteem, aggression, somatization symptoms, and peer relationships. The findings of this study may be valuable for nurses and policy makers to develop mental health programs for adolescents.

A NEW APPROACH FOR ASYMPTOTIC STABILITY A SYSTEM OF THE NONLINEAR ORDINARY DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS

  • In this paper, we use measure theory for considering asymptotically stable of an autonomous system [1] of first order nonlinear ordinary differential equations(ODE's). First, we define a nonlinear infinite-horizon optimal control problem related to the ODE. Then, by a suitable change of variable, we transform the problem to a finite-horizon nonlinear optimal control problem. Then, the problem is modified into one consisting of the minimization of a linear functional over a set of positive Radon measures. The optimal measure is approximated by a finite combination of atomic measures and the problem converted to a finite-dimensional linear programming problem. The solution to this linear programming problem is used to find a piecewise-constant control, and by using the approximated control signals, we obtain the approximate trajectories and the error functional related to it. Finally the approximated trajectories and error functional is used to for considering asymptotically stable of the original problem.
