  • A subsea pipeline designed across active shipping lane prones to failure against external interferences such as anchorage activities, hence risk assessment is essential. It requires quantifying the geometric probability derived from ship traffic distribution based on Automatic Identification System (AIS) data. The actual probability density function from historical vessel traffic data is ideal, as for rapid assessment, conceptual study, when the AIS data is scarce or when the local vessels traffic are not utilised with AIS. Recommended practices suggest the probability distribution is assumed as a single peak Gaussian. This study compares several fitted Gaussian distributions and Monte Carlo simulation based on actual ship traffic data in main ship direction in an active shipping lane across a subsea pipeline. The results shows that a Gaussian distribution with five peaks is required to represent the ship traffic data, providing an error of 0.23%, while a single peak Gaussian distribution and the Monte Carlo simulation with one hundred million realisation provide an error of 1.32% and 0.79% respectively. Thus, it can be concluded that the multi-peak Gaussian distribution can represent the actual ship traffic distribution in the main direction, but it is less representative for ship traffic distribution in other direction. The geometric probability is utilised in a quantitative risk assessment (QRA) for subsea pipeline against vessel anchor dropping and dragging and vessel sinking.

  • Integrating massive components and low-power policies have been actively investigated for system-on-chip designs. But in recent years, finding the optimal interconnection structure among heterogeneous components has emerged as a critical system design issue. Therefore, various simulation tools to model interconnection designs are being developed and performance evaluation of simulation is reflected in the real design. But most of the simulation environments employ traffic generation based on the mathematical probability functions, and such traffic generation cannot fully cover for various situations that may be occurred in the real system. Therefore, the demand for traffic pattern generation based on real applications is increasing. However, there have been few simulators that adopt application-specific traffic generators. This paper proposes a novel traffic generation method in simulating various interconnection structures for multi-processor system-on-chip design. The proposed traffic generation method can generate traffic patterns that can reflect the actual characteristics of the application and evaluate the performance of an interconnection structure under more realistic circumstance than traffic patterns using mathematical probability functions. By comparing the differences between the proposed method and the one based on mathematical probability functions, this paper shows advantages of the proposed traffic generation method.

  • According to the rapid economic growth and the escalation of recreational tourism activities due to the change of job and working patterns, currently various traffic problems often occur in tourist areas. As tourist traffic, contrary to general traffic, is not regional but rather from outside the area of interest, it is hard to grasp the traffic situation surrounding the tourist area. Furthermore, since the traffic is concentrated during a limited tourist season, it is difficult to examine and solve the problem. In this study, in order to test the feasibility of introducing a traffic transfer system to reduce congestion in tourist areas, the authors considered the differences in traffic congestion between typical and tourist seasons and designed a willingness to pay model. The willingness to pay amount for a shuttle bus fare is assumed as 1,430 Won and 1,650 Won is assumed for a transfer parking charge. These amounts were slightly above the current bus fare in the study area, but many people thought that the introduction of a traffic transfer system would help to relieve the traffic congestion approaching the tourist area and to develop tourism resources. As the willingness to pay appeared high from the persons used in this study, it was indirectly confirmed that the introduction of a traffic transfer system would be a step in the right direction.

  • The traffic lights detection and recognition system is an essential module of the driver warning and assistance system. A method which is a color vision-based real time detection and recognition of traffic lights is presented in this paper This method has four main modules : traffic signals lights detection module, traffic lights boundary candidate determination module, boundary detection module and recognition module. In traffic signals lights detection module and boundary detection module, the color thresholding and the subtraction value of saturation and intensity in HSI color space and detection probability mask for lights detection are used to segment the image. In traffic lights boundary candidate determination module, the detection mask of traffic lights boundary is proposed. For the recognition module, the AND operator is applied to the results of two detection modules. The input data for this method is the color image sequence taken from a moving vehicle by a color video camera. The recorded image data was transformed by zooming function of the camera. And traffic lights detection and recognition experimental results was presented in this zoomed image sequence.

  • The expressway network includes a total of about 1,899 km in our country The only 1,016 km of that is being managed by the closed Toll Collection System(TCS) which is composed of 74 tollgates. We obtain inter-tollgate O-D matrices from that system everyday. But, they are not traffic-zonal O-D matrices. So they have not been used for the expressway traffic analysis and the traffic demand estimation despite of their accuracy. If we could estimate the traffic-zonal O-D matrices from TCS O-D ones, we could perform expressway traffic analysis more efficiently. Moreover we could obtain more precise expressway O-D matrices and traffic-zonal O/D ones by this approach than by the conventional ones. In this paper. we proposed the model estimating traffic-zonal O/D matrices from TCS O-D ones. The assigned volumes with the estimated traffic-zonal O-D matrices produced the only 17.9% error all over the TCS expressway section when compared to the real traffic volumes. So, the proposed model enables for us to estimate more accurate O/D matrics than any other existing methods.

  • In 2012, According to 'Cisco Global Cloud Index 2011-2016', the Cisco company forecasted that global data center traffic will nearly quadruple and cloud traffic will nearly sextuple by 2016. Such a rapid growing of traffic is caused by traffic inside the data center and cloud computing workloads. In 2010, the Ministry of National Defense decided to build a Mega Center including the cloud computing technology by 2014, as part of the '2012 Information Service Plan', which is now underway. One of the factors to consider is cloud computing traffic to build a Mega Center. Since the K-defense cloud computing system is built, K-defense cloud computing traffic will increase steadily. This paper, analyzed the availability of K-defense cloud computing service with the K-defense cloud computing traffic increasing using K-Defense cloud computing test system and CloudAnalyst simulation tool. Created 3 scenarios and Simulated with these scenarios, the results are derived that the availability of K-defense cloud computing test system is fulfilled, even cloud workloads are increased as muh as forecasted cloud traffic growth from now until 2016.

  • Increased attention has been paid in recent years to the need of traffic management for alleviating urban traffic congestion. This paper presents a discrete event modeling and simulation framework for analyzing the traffic flow. Traffic simulation models can be classified as being either microscopic and macroscopic models. The discrete event modeling and simulation technique can be basically employed to describe the macroscopic traffic simulation model. To do this, we have employed the System Entity Structure/Model Base (SES/MB) framework which integrates the dynamic-based formalism of simulation with the symbolic formalism of AI. The SES/MB framework supports to hierarchical, modular discrete event modeling and simulation environment. We also adopt the Symbolic DEVS (Discrete Event System Specification) to developed the automated analysis methodology for generating optimal signal light policy. Several simulation tests will demonstrates the techniques.

  • This paper proposes a new concept of optimal shortest path algorithm which reduce average vehicle wating time and improve average vehicle speed, Electro sensitive traffic system can extend the traffic cycle when three are many vehicles on the road or it can reduce the traffic cycle when there are small vehicles on the road. But electro sensitive traffic light system doesn't control that kind of function when the average vehicle speed is 10km -20km. Therefore, in this paper to reduce vehicle waiting time we developed design of traffic cycle software tool that can arrive destinination as soon as possible using optimal shortest pass algorithm. Computer simulation result proved 10%-32% reducing average vehicle wating time and average vehicle speed which can select shortest route using built in G.P.S. vehicle is better than not being able to select shortest route function.
