Logistic Regression Accident Models by Location in the Case of Cheong-ju 4-Legged Signalized Intersections (사고위치별 로지스틱 회귀 교통사고 모형 - 청주시 4지 신호교차로를 중심으로 -)

  • The goal of this study is to develop Logistic regression model by accident location(entry section, exit section, inside intersection and pedestrian crossing section). Based on the accident data of Chungbuk Provincial Police Agency(2004$\sim$2005) and the field survey data, the geometric elements, environmental factor and others related to traffic accidents were analyzed. Developed models are all analyzed to be statistically significant(chi-square p=0.000, Nagelkerke $R^2$=0.363$\sim$0.819). The models show that the common factors of accidents are the traffic volume(ADT), distant of crossing and exclusive left turn lane, and the specific factors are the minor traffic volume(inside intersection model) and U-turn of main road(pedestrian crossing model). Hosmer & Loineshow tests are evaluated to be statistically significant(p$\geqq$0.05) except the entry section model. The correct classification rates are also analyzed to be very predictable(more than 73.9% to all models).

Development of a Communication Protocol for a Digital Traffic Signal Controller (디지털 교통신호제어기 통신체계 개발)

  • Most of the current traffic signal controller use load switches to transmit high voltage power to the signal lamps. The direct transmission of high voltage power may cause a lot of problems like leakages of electric power, obstructions of pedestrian, environmental disfigurements. To overcome these problems, the development of digital type signal controller has been trying in the various methods. Digital communication between a master controller and signal lamps is the most important part to improve control performance in the digital type controller. A communication system for the digital signal controller was developed in this study. The system bases on CAN specification, includes ID structure for most peripheral devices like loops, signal lamps, push buttons, police switches. The operability of this system verified with a software based CAN simulation tool.

  • The availability of in-depth accident data is a prerequisite for each efficient traffic safety management system. Identification and definition of the relevant problem together with knowledge of the data and parameters describing this problem is essential for its successful solution. Comprehensive, up-to-date, accident data is needed for recognition of the scope of road safety problems and for raising public awareness. Reliable and relevant data enable the identification of the contributory factors of the individual accidents, and an unveiling of the background of the risk behaviour of the road users. It offers the best way to explore the prevention of accidents, and ways to implement measures to reduce accident severity. In this study, reviewing the existing iGlad and GIDAS system, KIDAS data format can be finalized through feasibility evaluation. The progressive approach is proposed to successful settlement of Korea in-depth accident study. As the initial stage of in-depth investigation DB construction, the KIDAS is not repetition of the current police based TAAS. It is essential part of improving vehicle safety and reduction of traffic fatality in Korea. 72 Contributing factors like road and traffic characteristics, vehicle parameters, and information about the people involved in the accident have to be investigated and registered as well in the KIDAS.

Analysis of the Type-I/II Error for the Leaky Bucket Policing Algorithm in ATM Networks (ATM망에서 Leaky Bucket 사용 감시 알고리즘의 Type-I/II 에러 분석)

  • In this paper, we suggested a method for evaluating the type-I/II error which is proposed by the CCITT as a criterion for the accuracy of policing algorithms in ATM networks, By the analysis of the type-I/II error of the Leaky Bucket(LB) algorithm, we investigated the relationships between the traffic parameters and the LB parameters to police the mean and peak cell rate effectively in the ON/OFF traffic. We showed that the LB parameters, the leaky rate a and the threshold M of the LB counter, could be determined as a pair of (a, M) satisfying the type-I/II error and minimizing the response time. In the ON/OFF traffic, it has been observed that the a-M characteristic curve of the LB policing algorithm only depends on the burstiness. As the results of the performance analysis, we found that the LB algorithm exhibits a good performance in the peak rate policing, but has some problems in the mean rate policing due to the trade-off between the accuracy and the response time.

Analysis of the Mechanism of Automated Speed Enforcement Systems on Traffic Safety (자동과속단속시스템의 교통안전개선 메커니즘 분석)

  • The increasing interest in the use of Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) systems in Korea enables to enforce speed violation by National Police Agency. We have analyzed the mechanism of ASE systems on traffic safety throughout Korea. 1 The data collected on a 2km road-section of each 32 ASE stations during one rear period indicate significant safety improvement. The results were (a) a decrease in the total number of accidents of 28%, (b) a decrease in the number of fatalities of 60%. 2. The study also that ASE systems are effective to reduce average speed, speed variance, and short headway. 3. Based on the operational data collected at 15 locations, an aggregate safety prediction model is proposed as a multiple regressions form. The primary operational variables that appear to affect the frequencies of accident are : average speed, speed variance, and the number of vehicles exceeding 30km/h of posted speed limit.

  • This paper presents an Auto-Drive-Guidance System which provides a path to the destination with the shortest driving distance(or time), as well as service information such as the location of gas stations, hospitals, or police stations. This system displays on the monitor screen the best driving path to the destination, points the current car position on the map, informs the driver of current position by voice whenever the car passes well-known places, or displays the map the driver wishes to view. With this system, driving becomes more comfortable, and traffic jams will be greatly reduced. As a result, gasoline consumption will be reduced and so air pollution. The system can also be applied to such areas as communication network, geographic map, and tour information.

  • KIDAS (Korean In-Depth Accident Study) is a data structure of accident investigation type, vehicle breakage and human injury database. A consortium of research institutes, universities, and medical institutions has been established and operated. KIDAS has the strongest difference from the TAAS (Traffic Accident Analysis System), which is the data of the National Police Agency, that it can grasp the injury information of passengers. In this study, the mean age and weight of the most frequent accident types in the KIDAS accident statistics were calculated to determine the degree of injury according to gender. Through the MADYMO analysis, it is aimed to grasp the difference of dummy injury using commercial dummy models and scaling models are currently used.

  • In Korea, the local traffic safety master plan has been established and implemented according to the Traffic Safety Act. Each local government is required to establish a customized traffic safety policy and share roles for improvement of traffic safety and this means that local governments lead and promote effective local traffic safety policies fit for local circumstances in substance. For implementing efficient traffic safety policies, which accord with many-sided characteristics of local governments, the prediction of community-based traffic accidents, which considers local characteristics and the analysis of accident influence factors must be preceded, but there is a shortage of research on this. Most of existing studies on the community-based traffic accident prediction used social and economic variables related to accident exposure environments in countries or cities due to the limit of collected data. For this reason, there was a limit in applying the developed models to the actual reduction of traffic accidents. Thus, this study developed a local traffic accident prediction model, based on smaller regional units, administrative districts, which were not omitted in existing studies and suggested a method to reflect traffic safety facility and policy variables that traffic safety policy makers can control, in addition to social and economic variables related to accident exposure environments, in the model and apply them to the development of local traffic safety policies. The model development result showed that in terms of accident exposure environments, road extension, gross floor area of buildings, the ratio of bus lane installation and the number of crossroads and crosswalks had a positive relation with accidents and the ratio of crosswalk sign installation, the number of speed bumps and the results of clampdown by police force had a negative relation with accidents.

A study for a play of improvement in education curriculum for bodyguard related theory (한국 대학의 경호관련학과 이론분야 교육과정의 학문적 정립)

  • The objectives of this study is to analyze the curriculum based on the hypothesis of bodyguarding related department and to research the differences of the amongthree groups of public bodyguarding, private bodyguarding and bodyguarding professors with its significance in order to establish the development of direction in education curriculum for bodyguarding related departments at university level,For this purpose, this study categorized the sample group into three kind and surveyed them, Those are public bodyguarding members, private bodyguarding member, and the professors and 121 samples were selected in those three with the help of self-admistrated method, which is one of the sampling methods, First, among the current bodyguarding related theoretical disciplines significant differences among groups was presented by the evaluations on bodyguarding science, traffic safety management, fire extinguishing, secretary science, administration, psychology, sports education, sport physiology, jurisprudence and philosophy, which showed differences among groups through the multiple comparison, But there was no significant difference among the means of the groups concerned with the other curriculum, We could know that more curriculum is needed to facilitate the private bodyguarding in disciplines and system of the current theory in this study. For it is predicted the demand for the private bodyguarding will increase continuously in the future. for which we should prepare. Thus it is required to increase the theoretical curriculum of the private bodyguarding. That is. the models of curriculum like introduction to machinary guarding. introduction to communication. computer theory and so on are required to be established. In addition to that. it must be noticed that the current private bodyguarding is not guaranteed by the legitimate institution. But the private bodyguarding is related to the police service. thus the curriculum of jurisprudence and police science should be studied together.

  • This paper describes packet scheduling techniques that can be used to alleviate the impact of interference. The mechanism is consisted of interference estimation and master delay police. Proposed scheduling police is effective in reducing packet loss and delay. Another advantage worth mentioning, are the additional saving s in the transmitter power since packet are not transmitted when channel is bad. This paper gives that scheduling policy works only with data traffic since voice packets need to be sent at fixed intervals. However, if the delay variance is constant and the delay can be limited to a slot, it may be worthwhile to use DM packet for voice.
