  • In this paper, we propose an approach that efficiently builds regional hazardous weather prediction models based on past weather data. Doing so requires finding the proper weather attributes that strongly affect hazardous weather for each region, and that requires a large number of experiments to build and test models with different attribute combinations for each kind of hazardous weather in each region. Using our proposed method, we reduce the number of experiments needed to find the correct weather attributes. Compared to the traditional method, our method decreases the number of experiments by about 45%, and the average prediction accuracy for all hazardous weather conditions and regions is 79.61%, which can help forecasters predict hazardous weather. The Korea Meteorological Administration currently uses the prediction models given in this paper.

  • This study suggests a DEA(Data Envelopment Analysis) based model to evaluate the value of corporate stock. The model integrating PER(Price-Earning Ratio), PBR(Price-BookValue Ratio), PSR(Price-Sales Ratio) and volatility in DEA structure has an advantage of overcome the limitation of traditional financial ratio based models. In order to show the effectiveness of the suggested model. we compare the performance of portfolio composed by DEA approach with those of portfolios made by traditional approaches such as PER, PBR, and PSR in terms of stock return and volatility. Specifically, we use the data of all the enterprises listed on the S&P 500 in the U.S. in 2007 and 2009 as the sample data for the experiments. The results of the experiments show that the performance of the DEA approach is clearly better than those of other approaches. Particularly, in sharply plummeting market, the performance of the DEA approach is shown to be prominently better than those of other approaches as the DEA approach reflects investment risk as well as profitability and growth. The DEA score combining the existing investment indices may serve as a useful barometer for selecting a stable and profitable portfolio.

  • In the study about the logical basis and interpreting methods of animal experiments using rats in traditional medicine, several conclusions are obtained and summarized as following. 1. The logical basis of the animal experiments in traditional medicine is the essential homogeneity between human and rat defined as various transformation of one Qi(一氣) packed the cosmos. 2. Morphologically, the rat has abundant Yin(陰) and less Yang(陽) in most of anatomical characteristics. 3. Physiologically, the rat has unstable heart and mild temper with good fertility, which shows the features of Yin animal. 4. Pathologically, the rat shows the pathology of injury of viscera by stresses(氣激傷臟) and pathological transformations of internal water(痰飮水濕) mainly. 5. Constitutionally, the rat is alike to water type man(水形人) or Soeumin(小陰人) out of Yin Ren(陰人). 6. So, the rat is the proper experimental animal for diseases of sputum and water, emotional stimulations, endocrine system, heart, kidney, Yin syndrome(陰證) etc..

  • Han-ok (the Korean traditional house) is famous for its beauty and healthful aspects. However, its construction cost is too high because of the manual process of parts such as rafter, timber, etc. These days, many people want to build a modernized Korean traditional house at a low cost. In order to do so, the rafter machining process is required to be automatized using a CNC machine. It is also observed that, generally the timber does not have a uniform shape. Therefore, it is also needed to examine the timber shape before starting its processing. This paper presents the concept design of the rafter processing CNC machine, and a 3D laser scanning system. The laser scanner is developed to acquire 3D details of the timber shape. Furthermore, the results of simulated experiments are presented to investigate surface roughness during the machining process of the timber. Since cutting parameters largely influence on surface roughness and cusps formation, it is needed to achieve optimal machining parameters. Several experiments were carried out changing cutting parameters such as cutting tool diameter, feed-rate, and spindle speed.

  • Biotechnological researches in Central Asian Research Institute of Sericulture were developed since 1981 when laboratory of artificial diets for mulberry silkworm was created. The researches were directed not only to creation of accessible artificial diets (AD) for off-season mass rearing of economical beneficial insect and for industrialization of sericulture but also to obtaining of easy reproducible source of animal proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, enzymes, enzymes inhibitors and other metabolites - bioresource for manufacture of oriental medicine preparations. Space experiments with silkworms became possible with use of AD. These experiments used mulberry silkworm as high effective board test organism with outstanding developmental, reproductive and transgenic properties having important significance in future of cosmonautics. Introduction to practice of bioprotective and ecologically pure method of drying and sterilizing of green cocoons and by-products of silk manufacture allows to increase efficiency of cocoons reeling technology as well as to preserve nativity of biological active substances in mulberry silkworm pupae that is unachievable by traditional methods of raw material processing. New spheres of application of two important silk proteins - fibroin and sericin in medicine, cosmetics, for bio- and nanotechnology are opening with use of biotechnological approaches. At present the achievements and experience of R & D in these fields are used in creation of modern pests biocontrol agents. • Traditional tactile controls that include push buttons and rotary switches may cause significant visual and biomechanical distractions if they are located away from the driver's line of sight and hand position, for example, on the central console. Gestural controls, as an alternative to traditional controls, are natural and can reduce visual distractions; however, their types and numbers are limited and have no feedback. To overcome the problems, a driver interface combining gestures and visual feedback with a head-up display has been proposed recently. In this paper, we investigated the effect of this type of interface in terms of driving performance measures. Human-in-the-loop experiments were conducted using a driving simulator with the traditional tactile and the new gesture-based interfaces. The experimental results showed that the new interface caused less visual distractions, better gap control between ego and target vehicles, and better recognition of road conditions comparing to the traditional one.

  • Text is the most widely used means of exchanging or expressing knowledge and information in the real world. Recently, researches on structuring unstructured text data for text analysis have been actively performed. One of the most representative document embedding method (i.e. doc2Vec) generates a single vector for each document using the whole corpus included in the document. This causes a limitation that the document vector is affected by not only core words but also other miscellaneous words. Additionally, the traditional document embedding algorithms map each document into only one vector. Therefore, it is not easy to represent a complex document with interdisciplinary subjects into a single vector properly by the traditional approach. In this paper, we introduce a multi-vector document embedding method to overcome these limitations of the traditional document embedding methods. After introducing the previous study on multi-vector document embedding, we visually analyze the effects of the multi-vector document embedding method. Firstly, the new method vectorizes the document using only predefined keywords instead of the entire words. Secondly, the new method decomposes various subjects included in the document and generates multiple vectors for each document. The experiments for about three thousands of academic papers revealed that the single vector-based traditional approach cannot properly map complex documents because of interference among subjects in each vector. With the multi-vector based method, we ascertained that the information and knowledge in complex documents can be represented more accurately by eliminating the interference among subjects.
