This study offers an analysis of how Protestant Christianity in South Korea incorporated many beliefs and practices of Korean traditional religions in order to make the new faith more appealing to the masses. The paper also examines the way in which specific Protestant doctrines and practices were modified or accentuated to suit the disposition of the Korean people. In agreement with Confucianism, for example, Protestant churches in general emphasized the values of diligence, self-cultivation, righteous living, and, most importantly, filial piety. By overtly and subtly permitting ancestral rites to be conducted by Christians, moreover, Protestant Christianity evaded successfully the potential alienation of the tradition-bound Koreans. From Buddhism, Protestant Christianity syncretized such elements as the daily dawn prayer and all-night prayer as well as the practices of baekilgido ("a hundred-day prayer") and chunilgido ("a thousand-day prayer"). Hundreds of prayer centers that exist deep in the mountains also manifest a Buddhist influence. Shamanistic influences are also evident in Korean Protestantism, replete with the latter's emphasis on this-worldly success (health, prosperity, long life, etc.), faith healing, and conceptualization of God as being merciful and generous. What all of this reveals is that Christian conversion in South Korea did not involve an exclusivistic change of religious affiliation, meaning that it did not require the repudiation of traditionally held beliefs. Instead, millions of South Koreans eagerly embraced Protestant Christianity precisely because the new faith was advanced as an extension or continuation of traditional religious practices.
A The purpose of this study is to analyze the locational characteristics of the traditional market. In Seoul, small Conventional markets are directly connected with the living of citizens and becoming an important role for organization of the urban functions in the residential area. For this study, 32 Traditional Markets located on Seongbuk, Kangbuk and Dobong-Gu, were analyzed based on GIS, and within 500m related areas of market were categorized and researched by the level of urban infrastructure state. The contents of this study are composed of following three topics, partially theoretical review, general consideration and case studies. The study found that there is in need of improving urban infrastructure in conventional market areas, which has been identified during the research of urban infrastructure. Also, the study shows that it is necessary to develop comprehensive plans by timing and phase in order to improve commercial environment of the areas related while providing essential urban infrastructure. In addition, from the perspective of conventional market regeneration policy, physical conditions of the areas concerned should be focused on the perspective of developing plans and urban infrastructure elements.

The Yangdong traditional historic village is a representative village having symbolic historic values and unique combinations of natural, cultural, and social characteristics of a Korean historic settlement environment, which has been protected by Cultural Asset Protection Law since 1984. Now, in spite of its potential diverse powers, national strategies concerning Yangdong village do not have satisfactory direction and results. In consideration of this notion, this paper is designed to find and to understand the current state of Yangdong village. This paper aims to analyze The changes in Yangdong village between 1994 and 2002, and through these comparisons, to diagnose and predict future aspects of Yangdong village. Primary data was collected by questionnaire investigation between 1994 and 2002. The living conditions, production, and consciousness of residents of Yangdong village are utilized as standards of analysis. The final analysis results can be summarized as follows: because of the Cultural Asset Protection Law, noticeable changes have occurred in Yangdong village over the last 8 years. These change are different from the ones occurring in general farm villages. Also, most issues related to the changes are interpreted as occurring as a result of the top-down approach, which disregards the opinions and wishes of residents. For this, introduction of renovation concept that emphasizes modernization of life and production space is urgently required. To this end, it is necessary that concern for the traditional historic village should diversity and expand, and not concentrate solely on the cultural properties and architecture-oriented historic elements.
The most common conception of a work of art is as a unique object. In conservation the prevalent notion of authenticity is based on physical integrity, this guides judgements about loss. For the majority of traditional art objects, minimising change to the physical work means minimising loss, where loss is understood as compromising the (physical) integrity of a unique object, and this forms the focus of conservation. Fundamental to conservators' approach to the conservation of contemporary art is the notion that the artist's intent should guide conservators' practice. Since most of the artists creating installation art are living, it is possible to interview them about the details of the installation, attitudes to changing technology, parameters of acceptable change and their views about what aspects of the installation are essential to preserve. Conservation is no longer focused on intervening to repair the art object but has become concerned with documentation and determining what change is acceptable and managing those changes. In order to accurately install works in the future it is necessary to broaden our focus to include elements of an installation that affect the viewer's experience. This might mean documenting the space, the acoustics, the balance of the different channels of sound, the light levels and the way one enters and leaves the installation. These are as important as the more tangible or material elements in the conservation of the work. It is also necessary to work with industry and specialists outside the field of conservation to develop new skills to preserve and manage new types of objects in our care. We can also document the less tangible details of an installation such as the light levels, the character of the sound etc. This is a new area of conservation and as a profession our understanding and knowledge will deepen with time. All of these strategies work together to help to limit the risk of not being able to accurately install these works in the future. Deciding what can be changed and how to best care for any element of an installation will depend on its meaning and role. For both contemporary and traditional objects such decisions are documented by conservators and although the focus of the conservator may have moved away from the material object, the approach is still rooted in traditional notions of collection care.
Han-ok has been forgotten by rapid industrialization, however, recent interest in Korean traditional culture and eco friendly architecture are increasing. Government is also processing various policies and research in Han-ok for historical reasons. Still Han-ok is considered as temporary discover stage not daily space. Moreover, previous weakness of Han-ok made it difficult to supply. There is a need to build new Han-ok style public buildings different from traditional or new Han-ok for revitalization of Han-ok. Moreover, development of new Han-ok style public buildings model are needed for the public which include updated concept and function. From public buildings model development and supply people can visit and explore Han-ok. Therefore Han-ok tradition can be modernized. In addition to this Korean traditional culture and mode of living can be developed and conserved. This research focuses on public buildings of Han-ok supplication and aims design elements and regional trend.
The era of globalization has ushered in dramatic changes in the past decade covering a wide range of distinct political, economic and cultural trends whereby people adapt their houses to suit their needs and desires. This paper discusses the process of change analytically, emphasizing the importance of understanding the transformation of Lao traditional houses and its impact factors to the transformation and adaptation to suit with globalization trend, and conservation of the characteristics of traditional houses. This study takes place in Luangprabang, an ancient city of Lao PDR, which was designated as a world heritage city in 1995 as it is rich with diverse, tangible and intangible values. Five cases of traditional house in Luangprabang are examined to understand their transformation through time, by analyzing the basic spatial formation, components and elements, especially to find out the impact factors to such transformation. The study revealed that the transformation of the traditional house is subject to not just one single factor, but to a number of factors, where globalization, regulation, economy, and social aspect factors play a prime role and are the root for all these changes. The case study also indicates that these changes are connected to the benefits of income generation as a survival strategy for the low and middle-income people in Luangprabang as well as the housing demands. In the transition period a new residential type appeared accordingly, in which living spaces were categorized according to their general functions. There was a harmony between people's needs and the physical characteristics of the house.

This study is to provide basic research data of village composition and housing types of Central Java in Indonesia. So, I needed both field survey and research for 3 villages. I surveyed several houses cased on three village which located in two Desa of Salatica and one Desa of Purbowangi in rural area. The analysis of this research is divided into main categories as follow; The first is characteristics of village composition. And the second is classification of exterior form types and spatial composition of housing. Through this survey, the results of study are as follows. 1. The main elements of village compositions are public facilities, cross street including in naturalism, and shadow within high-rise tree. But it is not important to planning for orientation. 2. The types of house are 16 in all Indonesia land. But in this study 3 village are followed to Java style which has traditional roof style and clay tile material 지붕, 처마, conservation 3. Spatial composition of inner side is focused of living room-Ruang Tamu, and others are organized in small size. But recently new type of improved village house has rest room into living space.
Body movements of humans have emotions and these movements have meanings of 'Living Spirits' and 'Emotions'. Also emotions of humans indicate all body movements which are made within the environment. This study aims at providing new potentials to emotional design research methods not only by understanding the characteristics of visual perception according to body movements and but by investigating correlations between sequence which arise by the visual perception and emotions through experiments. As for the scope and method of this study, the emotional space designs were analyzed through the emotional theory study, SD method was used to evaluate emotions and the movements in the modern village and traditional village with similar elements were compared and analyzed for the empirical study. As a result, first it was confirmed waling hours in the traditional village took more than the modern village and it is thought movements of humans are affected by the visual environments. Second, it was confirmed values of the emotional evaluation were higher in the traditional village than the modern village. Third, according to a result of the correlation analysis between space sequence and emotions, it was closed with negative emotions such as 'Closed', and 'Complicated' from positive emotional words such as 'Natural'. 'Open', 'Curious', etc. as spaces are experienced more through movements in the modern village. On the contrary, the emotional intensity of the positive words such as 'In Harmony', 'Beautiful' and 'Warn' through movements in the traditional village increased as spaces were experienced more. As a result of this study, it was confirmed the time, space and emotions have correlations each other.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the preference of spatial elements for common space planning in senior congregate housing. For the study, 500 potential consumer's residing in Seoul was surveyed using the questionnaire in the social survey methodology. As for the common spaces, gardens, treatment, and exercise rooms were preferred. A combination of both separate and group arrangement of the buildings was preferred, indicating that people wanted separation of the common space and the individual living units. Second, people preferred sharing parts of the common space with their neighbors and as is the traditional custom, preferred to take off their shoes at the entrance to individual units. Third, for the furniture and facilities, they wanted the manager room in the lobby, the small meeting rooms in the public dining room, a fitness center in the activity room, the rack or alcove to store items in front of an individuals unit in the hallway, a chair to sit down in the elevator, and the chair to rest on the stairway landing. Fourth, in terms of priority for planning the senior citizens' community housing, safety, familiarity like a regular home, reduced isolation and loneliness, sense of belonging, economic factors, aesthetic appreciation, daily life supplement, variety, and self-identity were answered in that order.

However, the Korean traditional concepts have been expressed very broadly without any boundary or knowledge. Thus, the objective of this study is to analyze the Korean traditions and design elements expressed in various office spaces on case-by-case basis and to provide the typology and the guidelines for the future designs.e designs.
