At design stage of the TRXI agricultural tractor transmission (New product of TongYang Moolsan Co., Ltd), the noise and vibration of the transmission were analyzed theoretically for the optimal design of the transmission . For this analysis, the finite element model was developed using a commercial computer software, ANSYS. The noise and vibration of the TRXI transmission housing were predicted by the modal analysis. Natural frequency of the TRXI transmission housing was ranged from 12.53Hz(1st mode ) to 30.05Hz(5th mode). The fifth mode took place at the bearing metal in the area of rear transmission housing and was very close to the gear mesh frequency (30.5Hz) of low rang gear at the low creep shifting . Based on the results , the bearing metal of the range shift housing was reenforced with the rib at design stage.

Shock and vibration characteristics of a tractor-trailer type vehicle system with air suspension and air coupler running on a single bump road are investigated. The vehicle system is modelled and solved to two types of models, i.e. rigid-multi-body and flexible-multi-body model, by ADAMS and NASTRAN software. And the shock impulse is given by a single bump model on the road. When the analysis results of the rigid-multi-body model is compared with those of the flexible-multi-body model, it is revealed that the vibration and accelerations of the latter model are more repetitive and larger than the former.
This study was conducted to investigate dynamic characteristics of agricultural tractor with a particular interest in ride vibrations when it is subjected to various excitation forces. As the first part of it this paper describes development of dynamic model of a tractor-trailer system and its equations of motions. An 3 dimensional 16-degree-of-freedom dynamic model for a tractor-trailer system was developed and its equations of motions were derived, which will be used to investigate the effects of irregular ground surface and excitation forces due to the engine mounted on the tractor. And the excitation forces were also formulated analytically. The transition matrix method and QR algorithm were proposed for numerical solution of the equation of motions fur the developed model. The later parts of the study will include a proof of the model and optimization from which tractors can be designed to minimize the ride vibrations. This will be presented in the second and third papers to be followed shortly.

It is known that displacements, velocities and accelerations of the tractor- trailer type vehicle system in shock & vibration analysis by the flexible-multi-body dynamics including the flexibility of structure are bigger and more repetitive than them by the rigid-multi-body dynamics, and it is necessary to prove above results by the experimental field test. Therefore, in this paper, theoretical analysis by the flexible-multi-body dynamics and experimental field test for a tractor-trailer type vehicle system are conducted and their results are compared with each other. Because of unexpected metal contact and impact in the air coupler part in the field test, some accelerations measured from the experimental field test are bigger than them analyzed from the theoretical analysis, but most accelerations are well coincide with each other in the amplitudes and trends. Thus more refined dynamic analytical models for some special type vehicle systems will be possible in the future.

This study was conducted to optimize the spring constant and the damping coefficient, which are design parameters of the tractor cabin suspension system, to minimize the ride vibration. A 3D tractor MBD (multi-body dynamics) model with a cabin suspension system was developed using a dynamic analysis program (Recurdyn). Using the developed model and optimization algorithm, the spring constant and the damping coefficient, which are the design parameters of the cabin suspension for the tractor, was were optimized so thatto minimize the maximum overshoot for the vertical displacement of the cabin was minimized. The percent maximum overshoot of the tractor cabin was simulated for the 13 initial models, which were obtained using the ISCD-II method, and for the 3 additional SAO models presented in the optimization algorithm software. The model that represents with the smallest percent maximum overshoot among the 16 models was selected as the optimized model. The percent maximum overshoot of the optimized model was about approximately 5% lower than that of the existing model.
This paper presents the results of the study of vertically natural frequency of tractor tires are effected by changing different ground contacts and inflation pressures using the Free Decay Method. The results show that the natural frequencies of the tire are not affected while the vertical acceleration increased strongly due to the increase of inflation pressure when the tire performs free decay vibration on rigid ground. In addition, the number of natural frequency peaks of the tire also increases with increasing tire inflation pressure. On the other hand, the natural frequencies of the tractor tire increases strongly while the vertical acceleration decreases slightly with the increase of tire inflation pressure as the tire performs free decay vibration on soft soil. Further, the natural frequencies of tire-soil system are always higher than that of tire only, and it changed with changing the soil depth. Results also show the natural frequency of tire and tire-soil system is in the range of 3.0 to 10.0 Hz that lie within the most critical natural frequency range of the human body. These findings have to be mentioned and used as design parameters of the tractor suspension system.

This paper proposes a linear damping model of tire-soil system using semi-empirical method. A test rig was designed and developed to measure the vertical equivalent linear damping ratio of tire only and tire-soil system using Free-Vibration Logarithmic Decay Method. The test was performed with two kinds of tractor tires using a combination of five inflation pressure levels, two soil depths and four soil moisture contents in the paddy soil. The results revealed that the linear damping ratio of tires increased with decreasing tire inflation pressure; the linear damping ratio of tire-soil system also increased with decreasing tire inflation pressure and increased with the increasing soil depth (observed at 80 and 120 mm). It also increased with a relative increase of soil moisture contents (observed at 37.9%, 48.8%, 66.7% and 77.4%). The results also indicated that the damping ratio of tire-soil system was higher than that of tire only. A linear damping model of tire-soil system is proposed as a damping model in parallel which is established based on experimental results and vibration theory. This model will have a great significance in study of tractor vibration.
Six models of operator seat supplied to local tractor manufacturers were tested in the laboratory in accordance with ISO 5007 and 78/764/EEC. No models out of the six met the allowable damping and transmissibility performance criteria of both ISO 5007 and 78/764/EEC. From the ISO criterion standpoint, one model failed in damping performance and 4 models in isolation performance. From the 78/764/EEC criterion standpoint, 4 models failed in damping performance and 4 models in isolation performance. However none of them failed in all of the criteria, either. Each model met the one acceptance criterion but failed in another. This indicated that operator seat must be improved to meet the current ISO 5007 or 78/764/EEC and the exposure limit value that will be enforced in EU tractor market from 2014 by EU Directive 2002/44 EC.
This study was intended to investigate the characteristics of ride vibrations transmitted to tractor operator during rotary tillage and plowing operations. Seat accelerations of a 41 ps diesel tractor in rotary tillage and plowing were measured and evaluated as specified in the ISO 2631-1. Effects of working speed and tilling depth on ride vibration were investigated. The level of ride vibration was also evaluated in terms of health guidance caution zones. Some of the results of the study are as follows: 1. The level of ride vibration in plowing was about 4.3 times greater than in rotary tillage. 2. The effect of working speed in rotary tillage differs depending upon the tillage depth. The level of ride vibration was increased with the speed, but it decreased over a certain tillage depth. Fore and aft vibration was 2.2-2.7 times severer than horizontal and vertical vibrations. Dominant frequency band was 1-3.15 ㎐ in fore and aft, 1-3.15㎐ and 16-25㎐ in horizontal, and 16-25㎐ in vertical directions. 3. Plowing reduced the ride vibration by 42.8-50.2%. But its positive effect decreased as the plowing speed increased. In plowing operation, ride vibration was similar degrees in fore and aft, horizontal and vertical directions. The dominant frequency band in plowing operation was 1-2.5㎐ in fore and aft, 1-2.5㎐ in horizontal, and 1-8㎐ in vertical directions. 4. On a basis of daily work hours of 4, total level of ride vibrations in plowing operation is likely to be harmful to operator's health.
Using the dynamic model and simulation program TDA developed in the previous paper, effects of design parameters of an agricultural tractor-trailer system on its vertical seat vibrations were investigated. The tractor-trailer system was excited by traversing over a half-sine bump. The excitation frequencies were determined by traveling velocity of the tractor and a half-sine bump selected appropriately. TDA predicted the autospectra of the vertical seat accelerations with different values of design parameters and compared them to analyze their effects. The design parameters included positions of engine, cab, and seat mountings as well as their dynamic properties. The results of this study suggested guidelines with which an improved structure of tractor may be developed in the early stage of design for a better ride quality.
