Is the Agricultural Work a Risk Factor for Koreans Elderly Spinal Sagittal Imbalance?

  • Objective : A primary degenerative sagittal imbalance has been considered because of unique lifestyles such as the prolonged crouched posture during agricultural work and performing activities of daily living on the floor. Previous papers have reported that sagittal imbalance disease is often seen distinctly in the farming districts of "oriental" countries such as Korea and Japan. However, this finding was only evaluated with the use of X-ray, and other factors such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), muscle volume, compression fracture, and laboratory results were not considered. Thus, using these, we evaluate the agricultural work-associated factors for Korean elderly spinal sagittal imbalance. Methods : We recruited 103 Korean participants who had a sagittal vertical axis (SVA) of >5 cm in this Korean Elderly Sagittal Imbalance Cohort Study. The following were evaluated : radiological parameters, MRI, compression fracture, vitamin D, parathyroid hormone, C-terminal telopeptide, osteocalcin, bone mineral density and muscle fatty change, muscle volume, and health-related quality of life from patients' survey. Moreover, in this survey, the farmers' annual working hours were investigated. Subsequently, we analyzed the associated factors for spinal sagittal imbalance depending on occupation. Results : A total of 46 participants were farmers, and the others were housewives, sellers, and office workers. The farmer group had more SVA (141 vs. 99 mm, p=0.001) and pelvic tilt (31° vs. 24°, p=0.004) and lesser lumbar lordosis (20° vs. 30°, p=0.009) and thoracic kyphosis (24° vs. 33°, p=0.03) than non-farmer group. A significantly positive correlation was noted between the working hour and SVA in the farmer group (p=0.014). The visual analogue scale score for back pain (8.26 vs. 6.96, p=0.008) and Oswestry Disability Index (23.5 vs. 19.1, p=0.003) in the farmer group were higher than that in the non-farmer group, but the Short Form-36 score was not significantly different between the two groups. The Mini-Mental State Exam score was significantly lower in the farmer group than in the non-farmer group (24.85 vs. 26.98, p=0.002). Conclusion : The farmer group had more sagittal imbalance and back pain in proportion to the working hours even though the muscle and bone factors and general laboratory condition were not significantly different between the two groups. These results supported that the long hours spent in the crouched posture while performing agricultural work were a risk factor for severe sagittal imbalance.

석류 과실 부위별 폴리페놀 및 안토시아닌 함량이 항산화 및 항암 활성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of polyphenol and anthocyanin contents of Punica granatum fruit parts on their antioxidant and anticancer activities)

  • 고흥산과 캘리포나이산의 석류나무(Punica granatum L.) 과실을 과육, 종자 및 외과피로 분리하여 부위별 총 페놀성 함량, 안토시아닌 함량, DPPH 라디컬 소거능에 대한 항산화 활성 및 항암활성을 비교 검토하였다. 석류과실의 총 페놀성 함량은 외과피>주스>종자 순으로 유의적인 차이로 높게 나타났다. DPPH 라디컬 소거능은 외과피>주스>종자 순으로 높았고, 특히 외과피의 항산화 활성은 vitamin C와 유사한 활성을 보였다. 폐암세포주(Calu-6)에 대한 추출물의 항암활성은 외과피>종자>과육 순으로 높게 나타났다. 고흥산 석류 과실 부위별 총 안토시아닌 함량은 외과피>주스>종자 순으로 나타났고, 함유된 주요 안토시아닌은 Cy3,5G로서 가장 높은 함량을 보였고 그 다음이 Cy3G,Dp3,5G순으로 높게 나타났다. 총 페놀성 함량과 Calu-6 폐암세포주 활성 간이 $r^2=0.9706$으로 가장 높았고, 그 다음이 총 페놀성 함량과 DPPH 라디컬 소거능 간, DPPH 라디컬 소거능과 Calu-6 폐암세포주 활성 간 순으로 상관계수($r^2$)가 각각 0.8904, 0.8309로 나타나 상호 연관이 있음을 나타냈다.

  • Objectives : The aim of this study was to evaluate the relation between the state of dental health(number of natural teeth) and nutritional status of Korean elderly using Korean Dietary Reference Intakes, which was an objective standard for nutritional intake based on database of Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, large scale of sample obtained by the government. Methods : Complex sampling procedure was used to analyze the fourth data(2007-2009) of Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. When preparing planning file, the estimator of variance as a stratification variance (variance name : kstrata), population of survey unit as a cluster variance(variance name : PSU), and previous exam and nutritional related weighted as a weighted were analyzed by considering reproduced survey and nutritional related total weighted. Complex samples chi-square test was used to estimate the relation between number of natural teeth and inadequate intake and relation factors included in the model were analyzed by complex samples logistic regression analysis. Results : The group of edentulous had a higher risk to intake less nutrient, except calcium, riboflavin and vitamin C than recommended level comparing to reference group which had natural teeth more than 20(phosphate : OR=1.763; 95% CI=1.273-2.443, thiamine : OR=1.748; 95% CI=1.276-2.395, protein : OR=1.610; 95% CI=1.213-2.138). Conclusions : The number of teeth in Korean elderly over 65 years old had a relation with nutritional status in this investigation. Especially, intake level of nutrients was different between the edentulous group and the reference group. Therefore, dental health care is needed from young and middle age to keep health dental condition for through whole life as well as old age. Although the dental condition of the aged is not good, it is evitable to educate them about the relation between dental health and nutritional ingestion to take balanced nutrition, we think.

Mapping, Tissue Distribution and Polymorphism of Porcine Retinol Binding Protein Genes (RBP5 and RBP7)

  • The retinoids (vitamin A and its derivatives) play a critical role in vision, growth, reproduction, cell differentiation and embryonic development. Using the IMpRH panel, porcine cellular retinol binding protein genes 5 and 7 (RBP5 and RBP7) were assigned to porcine chromosomes 5 and 6, respectively. The complete coding sequences (CDS) of the RBP5 and RBP7 genes were amplified using the reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) method, and the deduced amino acid sequences of both genes were compared to human corresponding proteins. The mRNA distributions of the two genes in adult Wuzhishan pig tissues (lung, skeletal muscle, spleen, heart, stomach, large intestine, lymph node, small intestine, liver, brain, kidney and fat) were examined. A total of nine single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were identified in two genes. Three of these SNPs were analyzed using the polymerase chain reaction-restriction-fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) method in Laiwu, Wuzhishan, Guizhou, Bama, Tongcheng, Yorkshire and Landrace pig breeds. Association analysis of genotypes of these SNP loci with economic traits was done in our experimental populations. Significant associations of different genotypes of $RBP5-A/G^{63}$, $RBP5-A/G^{517}$ and $RPB5-T/C^{intron1-90}$ loci with traits including maximum carcass length (LM), minimum carcass length (LN), marbling score (MS), back fat thickness at shoulder (SBF), meat color score (MCS) and hematocrit (HCT) were detected. These SNPs may be useful as genetic markers in genetic improvement for porcine production.

부인과 암 생존자와 정상 대조군의 영양소 섭취와 식사의 질(Diet Quality Index-International) 비교 - 2013~2016년 국민건강영양조사 자료이용 - (A Comparisons of Nutritional Intake and Diet Quality Index-International in Gynecological Cancer Survivors and Normal Women - Using the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2013~2016 -)

  • Objectives: The aim of this study was to compare the nutritional intake and Diet Quality Index-International (DQI-I) of gynecological cancer survivors and normal women. Methods: This study compared the anthropometric indices, dietary behavior, nutritional intake, and DQI-I in women with previous history of breast or uterine cancer [Gynecological cancer survivors group (GCSG, n=126)] and normal women [Normal control group (NCG, n=7,011)] using the 2013~2016 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey data. Results: Body mass index and waist circumference were lower in the GCSG compared the NCG. The frequency of skipping breakfast and eating out was higher in the NCG compared to GCSG. Energy and fat intake were significantly higher in the NCG than in the GCSG, whereas intake of all minerals and vitamins (excluding thiamine), and dietary fiber intake were higher in GCSG. It was observed that the fatty acid intake of the GCSG was significantly lower than that of the NCG. The diet quality evaluation using DQI-I results showed that GCSG was higher in the "within-group" diet variety and adequacy of vegetable group than the NCG, whereas the intake level of the fruit group was higher in NCG. Besides, protein, calcium, and vitamin C intake were higher in the GCSG than in the NCG. The GCSG showed higher levels of total fat and saturated fat moderation than the NCG, whereas cholesterol moderation showed the opposite results. The results of DQI-I comparison according to the cancer survival years showed that the overall score and scores related to diet adequacy and balance were higher in the below 5-year group, whereas the over 5-year group scored higher in terms of moderation of diet. Conclusions: The results of this study suggest that a chronic disease based management approach is needed in cancer survivors. The study provides important data which can help in the preparation of guidelines for long-term lifestyle and diet management, in these patients.

어린이집과 유치원 아동의 점심 급식을 통한 영양 섭취 평가 (Nutrient Consumption of Children from Lunch at Child Day Care Centers and Kindergartens)

  • This study assessed the nutrient consumption of children from lunch at day care centers and kindergartens. A total of 184 lunch plates were selected in two child day care centers and two kindergartens in Seoul. Weights of the menus in planned meals were measured and amount of served and consumed lunches were calculated using a digital photography technique. Nutrients of the planned, served, and consumed lunches were assessed using CAN-Pro 4.0 and the Index of Nutritional Quality (INQ) was calculated for each meal. Compared with the estimated energy requirement for lunch for 3-5 year old children, the planned meals of the child day care centers and kindergartens contributed 42.8% and 98.8% of the daily energy requirements, respectively. At a child day care center, a served meal provided more nutrients than a planned meal since some children requested more servings after eating the served meals. This showed that the planned meal did not meet children's needs as well as the nutrient requirements. At the other child care center, children were served less than the planned meal by 6.8%, which resulted in serving less energy, calcium, potassium, and vitamin C than the required nutrients for lunch. Kindergarten A served meals with the energy requirement for lunch of 101.8%, but Kindergarten B served a meal with the energy requirement of 83.5%. Since the served portions were too small to meet nutrient requirements of the children, they consumed almost all the food served, and their nutrient consumption was similar to the nutrients served. Even though they consumed all the food served, their nutrient consumption did not meet their nutritional requirements. When assessed by INQ, the quality of the meal was good; children could consume enough nutrients when served proper quantity. Teachers who are responsible for serving meals need to be educated on proper portion sizes and how to encourage children to practice healthy eating. To promote healthy eating among children, parents need to provide children with messages consistent with what they have learned at institutions and to be a good role model in daily dietary life.

청도반시(Diospyros kaki Thunb. cv. Cheongdo-Bansi) 탈삽 껍질 추출물의 산화스트레스로부터 PC-12 신경세포 보호 효과 (Neuroprotective effects of astringency-removed peel extracts of Diospyros kaki Thunb. cv. Cheongdo-Bansi on oxidatively-stressed PC-12 cells)

  • 본 연구에서는 떫은 감인 청도반시(Diospyros kaki Thunb. cv. Cheongdo-Bansi)를 탈삽하여 곶감으로 만드는 과정 중에 다량의 부산물로 생겨나는 감 껍질을 활용하고자 산화방지능 및 신경세포 보호능을 평가하였다. 탈삽한 감 껍질을 40% (v/v) 에탄올-물혼합용액을 사용하여 초음파 추출을 한 후에, 가열처리와 비가열처리 방법을 이용하여 각각의 추출물을 확보하였다. 가열처리한 추출물이 비가열처리로 얻어진 것에 비해서 총페놀 함량, 총플라보노이드 함량, 산화방지능에서 약 1.3-1.8배 더 높았다. 비가열처리 추출물과 비교하여, 가열처리한 것이 PC-12 신경세포의 생존율 더 높이고, 세포 내 산화스트레스를 좀 더 완화하였다. AChE와 BChE 억제능 역시 가열처리한 추출물이 비가열처리로 얻은 추출물보다 더 높았다. 이러한 결과들은 산화방지능을 보유하며 콜린가수분해효소를 억제하는 기능성 소재 발굴을 위한 탈삽 감껍질 추출물 활용 가능성을 보여준다.

산업안전관리자의 안전의식 연구

  • 우리 나라는 한해에 안전사고로 인해 12만 .+-. 2만명정도의 재해자를 발생시키고 있으며, 재해의 천국이라는 오명까지 얻게 되었다. 따라서 본 연구는 우리나라의 산업안전관리자의 안전의식을 분석함으로써 재해발생의 감소에 일조를 하고자 함을 본 연구의 목적으로 한다. 연구기간은 1997년 3월에서 8월까지며, 총 200여명의 강원지역의 산업안전관리자들을 대상 으로 설문조사하여, 그중 불성실하게 답한 것을 제외한 183명의 관리자들의 응답결과를 토 대로 통계분석을 실시하였다. 연구내용은 안전의식에 대한 설문조사를 통하여 그들의 근무 조건과 안전에 대한 지식정도, 현 직장에의 만족과 불만족요인과 자주 쓰는 재해통해방법들을 조사하여 우리나라의 안전관리자들의 현 상황을 유추해 보고자 시도하였다. 분석결과 183명 중 여성은 불과 3명뿐이며, 83%가 기혼이며, 대졸은 전체의 25.1%이며, 59.6%가 고졸이며 , 전문대졸은 15.2%나 되었다. 전담 안전관리자는 전체의 8%에 불과했으며, 대부분 겸임을 하고 있었다. 놀라운 것은 안전관리자들의 92.6%가 안전관리자격증이 없었으며, 2급이 4.7% 에 불과했다. 과거에 부상을 당한 경험이 있는 안전관리자는 전체의 26.3%에 달해 회사가 부상을 당한 근로자를 안전부서로 발령한다는 사실을 확인할 수 있었다. 다친 원인의 50%가 시설물 결함으로 나타나 작업환경개선이 시급함을 알 수가 있었다. 우리나라도 선진국과 같은 교욱담당의 NIOSH와 제재담당의 OSHA와 같은 기관의 설립이 보다 효율적이고 근본적인 안전 관리의 문제해결책이라고 사료된다. 열악한 중소기업에 나라에서 안전교육을 담당해 주는 대신 기업은 근로자들에게 보다 안전한 환경을 제공해야 된다는 것이 이러한 기관설립의 목적이라고 하겠다. 더 나아가 이를 총괄하는 안전관리청의 신설이 보다 근본적인 문제해결을 제공해 줄 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.의 결과는 자전거 에르고노미터의 결과가 트레드밀의 결과에 87.60%정도 나타났다.음을 관찰하였다. 특히 vitamin C와 E의 병용투여는 상승적으로 적용하여 간세포손상을 더욱 억제시킴을 알 수 있었다.mance and on TFP(Total Factor Productivity) growth which is a pure measure of firm performance. 가사활동에 따른 피로도 감소를 위한 입좌식 부엌가구의 개발에 관한 연구

  • 본 연구는 주부들의 주활동공간인 부엌가구와 공간의 설계에 있어사용하기 편리하며 가사활동에 따 른 피로를 경감시키고 요통과 같은 주부직업병을 예방할 수 있는 부엌가구와 공간의 개발에 그 목적을 두었다. 연구는 먼저 수도권의 32평형 규모의 아파트150가구를 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였으며, 만 24시간동안의 실제 가사활동을 Video로 촬영하여 동작분석을 실시하였다. 그 결과 주부들은 수납의 용 이성과 공간의 크기, 작업대의 높이 등을 가장 많은 개선사항으로 지적하였으며, 절반이상의 주부들이 앉은 자세에서 작업이 이루어졌으면 좋겠다고 응답하였다. 또한 동작분석 결과 작업의 70%이상이 개수 대를 중심으로 조리대와 가열대 주변의 한정된 공간에서정적으로 선 자세에서이루어지는 것으로 파악 되었다. 이러한 선 자세에서의 작업에 따른 피로도를 감소시키기 위하여 입좌식 의자를 도입하였으며, 개수대를 씽크대의 'ㄱ'자 코너에 위치하여 주방활동시의 이동거리를 단축하고자 하였다. 피로도의 경감 을 측정하기 위하여 입좌식 의자를 도입한 개선된 씽크대와 기존의 입식씽크대에서 가사활동시 요구되는 주부들의 에너지 대사량을 비교하기 위하여 심장박동수와 산소호흡량을 측정하였다. 실험결과에 따르면 주방에 입좌식의자를 도입한 경우가 가사활동에 요구되는 에너지 소모량이 심장박동수와 산소호흡량의 기준에서 각각 평균적으로 30%와 57.5% 이상이 감소하는 것으로 파악되어 이러한 부엌가구의 도입으로 주부들의 가사활동에따른 피로도가 절반 가까이 감소될 수 있음을 니타내었다. 또한 부엌가구의 재배치 에따른 가사활동시 이동거리가 평균적으로5.5%이상이 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구결과를 주방설 계에 적용할 경우 가사활동의 효율성과 편리성이 향샹됨은 물론 가사활동에따른 피로도를 경감 시키고 요통 등의 주부직업병을 예방할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.1일 1회씩 4회 투여한 군에서도 암수에 상관없이 전 농도 군에서 염색체이상을 나타내지 않아 유전독성을 나타내지 않음을 관찰하였다. 특히 vitamin C와 E의 병용투여는 상승적으로 적용하여 간세포손상을 더욱 억제시킴을 알 수 있었다.mance and on TFP(Total Factor Productivity) growth which is a pure measure of firm performance. 유청단백 함유 체중조절용 식사대체제를 이용한 4주 다이어트 프로그램이 과체중 및 비만 여성의 체중, 체지방 및 체성분에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Whey Protein-rich Meal Substitute in 4-Week Diet Trial on Body Weight, Body Fat, and Body Composition of Overweight or Obese Females)

  • The study was performed to investigate the effects of whey protein-rich meal substitute added with vitamins, minerals, and lactobacillus powder probiotics on weight loss, body fat, and body composition in 24 female volunteers for 4 weeks. Whey protein-rich meal substitute was consumed with low-fat, high calcium milk (1% fat, 260 mg/200 mL) twice a day. Subjects submitted 3-day diet records and a life-style questionnaire before the study. During the study, subjects were required to turn in a diet record every day and consume the meal substitute formula in the metabolic ward at C university for 4 weeks. Anthropometric measurements were carried out weekly by Inbody 7.0. The dietary intake and anthropometric data were analyzed to compare changes before and after the study by paired t-test with SPSS version 23.0. The subjects were mostly early 20's and either overweight or obese and highly motivated to lose weight. Most of the subjects consumed three meals per day regularly and spent mostly 10~15 minutes for a meal. Their caloric intake was relatively low and decreased from 1,360 kcal at week 0 to 1,100 kcal after 4 weeks. However, total protein intake increased while carbohydrate and fat intakes decreased (p<0.05) after the trial. Nine vitamin intakes after the study improved compared to those before the study (p<0.05). After the study, subjects showed lower body weight (-1.8 kg), body fat (-0.94 kg), percent body fat (-0.86%), as well as waist circumference (-4.52 cm), hip circumference (-0.44 cm), waist hip ratio (-0.05), and triceps skinfold thickness (-2.39 mm) compared to those at week 0 (p<0.05). Muscle mass tended to be less compared to week 0, although there was no significant differences between weeks 0 and 4. In conclusion, diet trial with whey protein-rich meal substitute induced weight loss and positively changed body fat parameters and body composition.
