Atmospheric bulk (wet and dry) samples were monthly collected in an urban environment (Daeyeon-dong) of Busan over a year, to assess the deposition flux and seasonality of dioxin-like polychlorinated biphenyls (DLPCBs) using stainless steel pots. Deposition fluxes of DLPCBs in bulk samples were determined using high resolution gas chromatography coupled to high resolution mass spectrometry (HRGC/HRMS). Particle deposition fluxes in the urban environment varied from 23 to 98 $mg^2$/year (mean 41 $gm^2$/year). DLPCB deposition fluxes in atmospheric bulk samples ranged from 0.09 to 0.77 ng-$TEQ/m^2$/year (mean 0.35 ng-$TEQ/m^2$/year). Seasonal atmospheric deposition fluxes of DLPCBs were high in winter and low in summer. Atmospheric deposition fluxes of particles and DLPCBs in this study were comparable to or slightly lower values than those of different locations in the world. Monthly DLPCB profiles in deposition bulk samples were similar over a year. Non-ortho PCBs were higher contributions to the total DLPCBs fluxes than mono-ortho PCBs. In particular, PCB 126 had the highest concentrartion (>75%) in all deposition samples, followed by PCB 169 and PCB 156. A highly positive correlation was found among the deposition fluxes of DLPCB species, suggesting the possibility of that the DLPCB contamination originated from one source. The deposition fluxes of DLPCBs were not significantly correlated with temperature and the amount of precipitation even though the summer season with the highest temperature and the largest amount of precipitation showed the lowest DLPCB deposition flux.

With 30 excisting reservoirs in the Chin-Young area, the Sedimentation of the reservoirs has been calculated by comparing the present capacity with the original value, which revealed its reduced reservoir capacity. The reservoirs has a total drainage area of 3l4l ha, with a total capacity of 43.23 ha-m, and are short of water supply due to reduction of reservoir capacity, Annual sedimentation in the reservoir is relation to the drainage area, the mean of annual rainfall, and the slop of drainage area. The results of obtained from the investigation are summarized as follows: (1) A Sediment deposition rate is high, being about 7.03㎥/ha of drainage area, and resulting in the overage decrease of reservoir capacity by 16.1%. This high rate of deposition coule be mainly attributed to the serve denudation of forests due to disorderly cuttings of tree. (2) An average unit storageof 116mm as the time of initial construction is decreased to 95.6mm at present. This phenomena cause a greater storage of irrigation water, sinceit was assumed that original storage quantity itself was already in short. (3) A sediment deposition rate as a relation to the capacity of unit drainge area is as follow: Qs=1.27(C/A)0.6 and standard deviation is 185.5㎥/$\textrm{km}^2$/year. (4) A sediment deposition rate as a relation to the mean of annual rainfall is as follow: Qs=21.9p10.5 and the standard deviation is 364.8㎥/$\textrm{km}^2$/year. (5) A sediment deposition rate as a relation to the mean slop of drainage area is follow: Qs=39.6S0.75 and the standard deviation is 190.2㎥/$\textrm{km}^2$/year (6) Asediment deposition rate as a relation to the drainage area, mean of rainfall, mean of slope of drainage area is: Log Qs=0.197+0.108LogA-6.72LogP+2.20LogS and the standard deviation is 92.4㎥/$\textrm{km}^2$/year

Atmospheric monitoring capabilities were established in 1988 by the University of Florida at Duke forest, near Durham. NC: Cary forest, near Gainesville, FL: and Austin forest, near Nacogdoches, TX. Continuous (hourly averaged) measurements of air quality (ozone, nitrogen oxides and sulfur dioxide) and meteorological variables were made at these three low elevation (< 200 meters), rural locations in the southeastern U.S. for more than three years. During the same period at these sites wet and dry acid deposition samples were collected and analyzed on an event and weekly basis, respectively The monitoring locations were selected to determine actual atmospheric exposure indices for southern pine species in support of on-site surrogate exposure chamber studies conducted by Southern Commercial Forest Research Cooperative (SCFRC) investigators. Daily and quarterly averaged ozone maxima were higher (55 ppb) at the northernmost site in the network (Duke forest) in the second and third quarters (spring and summer seasons) and lower (35 ppb) in the first and fourth quarters (winter and fall seasons), when compared to ozone levels at the two southernmost sites (Cary and Austin forests). Seasonal ozone levels at the latter two sites were similar Nitrogen oxieds and sulfur dioxide levels were insignificant (< 5 ppb) most of the time at all sites, although soil emissions of NO at two sites were found to influence nighttime ozone concentrations. Typical maximum quarterly and annual aggregate ozone exposure indices were significantly higher at Duke forest (92.5/259 ppm-hr) than those values observed at the two southern sites (65.6/210 ppm-hr). Acid deposition (wet and dry) components concentrations and deposition fluxes observed at the Duke forest, NC piedmont site, were generally greater, dependent on site and season, than corresponding variables measured at either of the two southern coastal plain sites (Cary and Austin forests). Acid deposition variables observed at the latter two sites were remarkably similar, both qualitatively and quantitatively, although the sites were located 1300 km apart. A comparison of deposition fluxes of elemental nitrogen (NO3, NH4') and sulfur (5042-, SO3) components in wet and dry forms indicated that wet deposition accounts for approximately 70% of the total nitrogen and 73% of the total sulfur input on an annual equivalent basis at all sites.

The important source of the mercury in water-column is the influx of atmosphere mercury, via dry and wet deposition. In this study, wet deposition of mercury was estimated to be $14.56{\mu}g/m^2$ during 15 months at the Lake Soyang, which is a little higher than those observed in the several rural US Mercury Deposition Network (MDN) sites with similar precipitation depth. The mercury concentration in precipitation did not show a positive correlation with atmospheric RGM (reactive gaseous mercury) concentration, while maintaining good correlation with atmospheric $PM_{2.5}$ at Soyang Dam. This result suggests that the contribution of particulate Hg to the total Hg wet deposition should be more significant than that of RGM. In this study, both precipitation depth and precipitation type affected the amount of wet deposition and the concurrent mercury levels in precipitation. There was generally an inverse relationship between precipitation depth and Hg concentration in precipitation. Precipitation type was another factor that exerted controls on the Hg concentration in precipitation. As a result, the highest concentration of Hg was observed in snow, followed by in mixture (snow+rain) and in rain.
Indoor air quality might be affected by source strength of indoor pollutants, ventilation rate, decay rate, outdoor level, and so on. Although technologies measuring these factors exist directly, direct measurements of all factors are not always practical in most field studies. The purpose of this study was to develop an alternative method to estimate the source strength and deposition constant by application of multiple measurements. For the total duration of 60 days, indoor and outdoor $NO_2$ concentrations every 3 days were measured in 30 houses in Seoul, Asan and Daegu. Using a compartment model by mass balance and linear regression analysis, penetration factor (ventilation divided by sum of air exchange rate and deposition constant) and source strength factor (emission rate divided by sum of air exchange rate and deposition constant) were calculated. Subsequently, the source strength and deposition constant were estimated. Natural ventilation was $1.80{\pm}0.42\;ACH,\;1.11{\pm}0.50\;ACH,\;0.92{\pm}0.26\;ACH$ in Seoul, Asan and Daegu, respectively. Calculated deposition constant(K) and source strength of $NO_2,$ in this study were $0.98{\pm}0.28\;hr^{1}\;and\;16.28{\pm}7.47\;ppb/h,$ respectively.

Diamond thin film was deposited on n type (100) Si substrate by MPECVD(Microwave plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition). For the increase in nucleation density of diamond, Si substrate was pretreated by diamond powder or negative bias voltage was applied to the substrate during the initial deposition. In the case of retreated Si substrate, the diamond thin film quality was enhanced with increasing the total pressure in the range of 20~150 Torr. For the negative bias voltage, the formation condition of the diamond was seriously affected by $CH_4$ concentration and total pressure. The formation condition will be discussed with electrical current of substrate generated by plasma ions which depend on $CH_4$concentration, bias voltage, and total pressure.
Results for the concentrations of total polychlorinated biphenyls (total PCBs) and the PCB profile with different types of leaves from four coniferous trees (pine needles) at the same sampling site are presented. Concentrations of total PCBs detected in pine needles were very similar among them regardless of their different types of leaves, which means a possibility for bio-monitoring regional contamination of PCBs. Correlation coefficients(r) of PCB congeners between pine needles were very significant (r>0.97, p<0.001), which showed that PCB congener's patterns of each pine needle were similar. Profiles of PCBs detected in pine needles showed correlation with gaseous phase PCBs in air, otherwise not with particle phase PCBs in air. Therefore, it was estimated that dry gaseous deposition was a principal pathway of PCBs accumulation in pine needles. In addition, although we analyse a different types of leaves in pine needles at the same region, they can be used to identify regional contamination patterns of PCBs for larger regions.
Nitrogen (N) is an essential macronutrient. Thus, evaluating its flows and stocks in rice paddy ecosystems provides important insights into the sustainability and environmental loads of rice production. Among the N sources of paddy fields, atmospheric deposition and irrigation inputs remain poorly understood. In particular, insufficient information is available for atmosphere-rice paddy exchange of gaseous and particulate reactive N (Nr, all N species other than molecular N) which represents the net input or output through dry deposition and emission. In this study, we assessed the N inputs via atmospheric deposition and irrigation to a Japanese rice paddy area by weekly monitoring for 2 years with special emphasis on gas and particle exchange. The rice paddy during the cropping season acted as a net emitter of ammonia ($NH_3$) to the atmosphere regardless of the N fertilizer applications, which reduced the effects of dry deposition to the N input. Dry N deposition was quantitatively similar to wet N deposition, when subtracting the rice paddy $NH_3$ emissions from N exchange. The annual N inputs to the rice paddy were 3.2 to $3.6\;kg\;N\;ha^{-1}\;yr^{-1}$ for exchange, 8.1 to $9.8\;kg\;N\;ha^{-1}\;yr^{-1}$ for wet deposition, and 11.1 to $14.5\;kg\;N\;ha^{-1}\;yr^{-1}$ for irrigation. The total N input, 22.8 to $27.5\;kg\;N\;ha^{-1}\;yr^{-1}$, corresponded to 38% to 55% of the N fertilizer application rate and 53% to 67% of the brown rice N uptake. Monitoring of atmospheric deposition and irrigation as N sources for rice paddies will therefore be necessary for adequate N management.

Dry deposition fluxes for $SO_2$, particulate sulfate, nitrate, ammonium and $HNO_3$ were estimated in urban area for the time period January$\sim$ October 2005. Fluxes were generated using atmospheric concentration data collected both in Acid Deposition and Air Quality Monitoring Networks, and deposition velocities computed by combining land-use data with meteorological information. The resulting annually averaged $SO_2$, $NO_3$, and aerosol deposition velocities were found to be 0.4 cm/s, 4.3 cm/s and 0.1 cm/s, respectively, and thus deposition rates were 4.4 mg/$m^2$. day for $SO_2$, and 5.4 mg/$m^2$ . day for $NHO_3$, and particulate sulfate, ammonium and nitrate recorded 1.0 mg/$m^2$ . day, 0.4 mg/$m^2$ . day and 0.4 mg/$m^2$ day, respectively. Maximum for in seasonal variation of monthly averaged deposition velocities occurred in summer in contrast to $HNO_3$ showing peak in spring. There was no significant variation for aerosol. The dry to total (wet and dry) deposition contributed about 40% for sulfur and 28% for nitrogen species in this study.

The microhardness and the structural characteristics of the chemically vapor deposited TiN film on the 430 stainless steel substrate have been investigated with various deposition parameters such as the deposition time, the total flow rate, the flow rate ratio $(H_2/N_2)$, and the deposition temperature. The most important factor to affect the microhardness of the TiN film in this study was the denseness of the structure in connection with the degree of the lattice strain. The relationship between the lattice parameter changes and the grain size variation under all deposition conditions generally followed the grain boundary relaxation model. The (111) preferred orientation prevailed in the early stage of the deposition conditions, however, the (200) preferred orientation was developed in the later stage. The surface morphology at optimum conditions displayed a dense diamond shaped structure and the microhardness of the films was high (1700-2400Hv) regardless of the type of the substrates used.
