Synchronous Reluctance Motor (SynRM) has a simple structure with high efficient and without rotor conductor loss. Therefore, it is better than induction motor for electric vehicle (EV) on aspect of efficiency. SynRM usually operates on the constant torque region using maximum torque per ampere (MTPA)control which is adopted due to rotor structure limitation. Thus, the accurate current angle is crucial for motor control. However, finite element analysis (FEA) program is not sufficient exactly to regard how the iron loss and magnetic saturation influences on the current angle. Consequently, this paper proposed a method to calculate the current angle with consideration of iron loss.

This paper establishes in a new unified manner new mathematical models with core(iron) loss factor for two kinds of AC motors, induction and synchronous motors which are supposed to generate torque precisely or/and efficiently under vector controls. Our new models consist of three basic equations consistent with the others such as differential equation describing electromagnetic dynamics, torque equation describing torque generating mechanism, energy transmission equation describing how injected energy is wasted, saved or transmitted where all vector signals are defined in general frame of arbitrary instant angular velocity. It is clearly shown in our models that equivalent core-loss resistance can express appropriately and separately both eddy-current and hysteresis losses rather than mere vague loss. Proposed model of induction motor is the most compact in sense of the number of employed interior states and parameters. This compact model can also represent eddy-current and hysteresis losses of rotor as well as stator. For synchronous motor, saliency is taken into consideration. As well known model for cylindrical motor can be obtained directly from salient one as its special case.
In this paper, a loss-minimization nonlinear torque control for Electrical Vehicle(EV) induction motors is proposed. To improve the efficiency of the induction motors, it is important to find the optimal flux reference that minimize power losses. The proposed optimal flux reference is derived using a power loss function that is constructed with stator resistance losses, rotor resistance losses and core losses. And the time-varying load torque and the rotor resistance variation are considered in the power loss function. An algorithm that identifying the load torque is used. The rotor flux observer is used to obtain an accurate flux value regardless of the rotor resistance variation. Simulation results show a significant reduction in energy losses.
This paper presents the d-q axis equivalent circuit model of an interior permanent magnet (IPM) which includes the iron loss resistance. The model is implemented to be able to run in real-time on the FPGA-based HIL simulator. Power electronic devices are removed from the motor control unit (MCU) and a separated controller is interfaced with the real-time simulated motor drive through a set of proper inputs and outputs. The inputs signals of the HIL simulation are the gate driver signals generated from the controller, and the outputs are the winding currents and resolver signals. This paper especially presents iron loss prediction which is introduced by means of comparing the torque calculated from d-q axis currents and the desired torque; and minimizing the torque difference. This prediction method has stable prediction algorithm to reduce torque difference at specific speed and load. Simulation results demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed methods.
The content of harmonic current increases with an increase in the number of power electronic devices in power grid. When a generator is directly connected to the power grid through a step-up transformer, the influence of the harmonic currents on the generator is inevitable. To study the influences of harmonics on generators, a 24-MW bulb tubular turbine generator is taken as an example in this paper. A 2-D transient electromagnetic field model is established. Through a comparative analysis of the data of experiments and simulations, the correctness of the model is verified. The values of the air gap magnetic density, torque and losses of the generator under various conditions are calculated using the finite element method. Taking the rated condition as a reference, the influence of the harmonic currents on the magnetic flux density is analyzed. It is confirmed that the time harmonic is a key factor affecting the generator performance. At the same time, the effects of harmonic currents on the torque ripple, average torque and eddy current loss of the generator are studied, and the mechanism of the variation of the eddy current loss is also discussed.

PURPOSE. This study was conducted to evaluate the influence of the implant-abutment connection design and diameter on the screw joint stability. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Regular and wide-diameter implant systems with three different joint connection designs: an external butt joint, a one-stage internal cone, and a two-stage internal cone were divided into seven groups (n=5, in each group). The initial removal torque values of the abutment screw were measured with a digital torque gauge. The postload removal torque values were measured after 100,000 cycles of a 150 N and a 10 Hz cyclic load had been applied. Subsequently, the rates of the initial and postload removal torque losses were calculated to evaluate the effect of the joint connection design and diameter on the screw joint stability. Each group was compared using Kruskal-Wallis test and Mann-Whitney U test as post-hoc test (${\alpha}$=0.05). RESULTS. The postload removal torque value was high in the following order with regard to magnitude: two-stage internal cone, one-stage internal cone, and external butt joint systems. In the regular-diameter group, the external butt joint and one-stage internal cone systems showed lower postload removal torque loss rates than the two-stage internal cone system. In the wide-diameter group, the external butt joint system showed a lower loss rate than the one-stage internal cone and two-stage internal cone systems. In the two-stage internal cone system, the wide-diameter group showed a significantly lower loss rate than the regular-diameter group (P<.05). CONCLUSION. The results of this study showed that the external butt joint was more advantageous than the internal cone in terms of the postload removal torque loss. For the difference in the implant diameter, a wide diameter was more advantageous in terms of the torque loss rate.
An improved hydrostatic unit(HSU) model is proposed by considering the flow loss in order to analyze the power flow characteristics of a hydromechanical transmission(HMT) and a network analysis algorithm is presented to determine the torque and speed of each element of the HMT. To calculate the torque and flow loss of a pump and a motor in HSU, an effort and flow concept is introduced, which can be used to establish a torque and speed matrix in the network analysis. It is found from the network analysis that magnitude of the HSU stroke increases to maintain the same output speed in order to compensate the flow Boss in the HSU and the efficiency of the HMT shows the lowest value in the 1st speed since the HSU has the largest flow loss in the 1st speed and the flow loss decreases as the speed ratio upshifts.
The main objective of this a paper is to improve the efficiency of permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) by using an improved direct torque control (DTC) strategy. The basic idea behind the proposed strategy is to predict the impact of a small change in the stator flux amplitude at each sampling period to decrease electrical loss before the change is applied. Accordingly, at every sampling time, a voltage vector is predicted and applied to the machine to fulfill the flux change. The motor drive simulations confirm a significant improvement in efficiency as well as a very fast and smooth response under the proposed strategy.
In this paper, the torque characteristics and the bar loss distribution are analyzed when a general cage induction motor with skewed slots is fed by a 6-step inverter. For the electromagnetic analysis, time-stepping finite element method is used. And the multi-slice technique and sliding surface technique are respectively utilized to consider the skew effect and the rotation of the rotor. As a result, the effects of skewed rotor bar and the inverter output voltage on the characteristics of the torque and bar loss in the rotor are investigated. The simulation results are verified by measurement of flux density distribution axially in the stator teeth.
Development trend of modern HSDI diesel engine is now focusing on low fuel consumption and emission because of strong interest in global environmental protection. Two big branches of criteria for modern diesel engine development are down sizing and down speeding. Down sizing keeps engine operation condition to the direction of higher load and thus pursuing for better thermal efficiency. But this may cause degraded vehicle dynamic performance because of reduced back up torque. Down speeding keeps engine operation condition to the direction of slightly higher load and lower engine speed. Therefore reduction of back up torque can be limited within flat torque area. This study analyzed fuel economy effect of down speeding on a vehicle powered by HSDI diesel engine in aspect of engine friction work, intake and exhaust pumping work, exhaust hat loss and thermal loss of fuel leakage of fuel injection system. Contribution factor of each engine and vehicle related parameters under basic and down speeding condition were compared and work balance of down speeding during NEDC was analyzed.
