  • A BLDC motor with higher number of phases has several advantages, compared to the conventional three-phase BLDC motors. It can reduce the commutation torque ripple and the iron loss without increasing the voltage per phase and increase the reliability and power density. Higher number of phases increase the torque-per-ampere ratio for the same machine volume and output power by widening the electrical conduction period. In this paper, the proposed seven-phase BLDC motor drive system is made into several functional modular blocks, so that it can be easily extended to other ac motor applications: back-EMF block, hysteresis current control block, pwm inverter block, phase current block, and speed/torque control block. Also in a system of BLDC motor drive, the PI controller has been widely used in the speed controller because of the simple implementation. To obtain a good speed response in a general drive system using the PI controller, the high bandwidth of a controller is established. therefore, in this paper, a Fuzzy controller is applied to the 7-phase BLDC motor drive system in order to improve the speed control performance. The Fuzzy controller is compared with a conventional PI controller through the experiment with respect to speed dynamic responses. These experimental results show that the Fuzzy controller of the 7-phase BLDC motor drive system is superior over the conventional PI controller. The algorithm using the Fuzzy controller can improve a comfortable ride in the field of high performance 7-phase BLDC motor drive applications.

  • We analyzed the MnIr thickness dependence of torque signals measured in exchange coupled CoFe/MnIr ($t_{AF}$) bilayers. The measured torque signals were compared with calculated ones by Stoner-Wohlfarth model. The exchange coupling anisotropy $J_c$ was considered for the model calculation between ferromagnetic (F) and antiferromagnetic (AF) layers with uniaxial anisotropy constant of $K_F$ and $K_{AF}$, respectively. The rotational losses were appeared in the range of $0.5t_c$ < $t_{AF}$ < $t_c$ ($=J_c/K_{AF}$) by the unpinned AF layer. While, the unidirectional anisotropy ($J_k$) was caused by the pinned AF layer at $t_{AF}$ > $t_c$. The critical thickness of MnIr layer was $t_c$ = 3.4 nm in CoFe/MnIr bilayers. The rotational losses behavior as shown in $t_{AF}$ = 3 nm sample were explained by the random orientation of the easy axis of AF grains. The unidirectional anisotropy obtained from torque signal of $t_{AF}$ = 10 nm sample was $J_k=0.63J_c$. Thus, the unidirectional anisotropy can be enhanced up to $J_k=J_c$ by aligning the AF easy axis.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of different abutment materials on abutment screw loosening and settling-down effect in conical connection type implant system. Materials and methods: Three types of abutment, cementation, gold UCLA, and metal UCLA abutment were used. Two UCLA groups were fabricated in a similar pattern to cementation abutment. Type III gold alloy and Nickel-Chromium alloy was used for casting gold UCLA abutment and metal UCLA abutment, respectively. Fixture and abutment were tightened to 30 Ncm by using digital torque controller and re-tightening was conducted with same force after 10 minutes. Digital torque gauge was used to measure loosening torque and fixture/abutment length was measured by digital micrometer. Dynamic loads between 25 N and 250 N were applied with $0^{\circ}$ angle to the abutment axis. After loading, fixture/abutment length was re-measured and amount of settlement was calculated. Loosening torque value was also measured for comparison Results: All three groups showed significant differences of length when comparing before and after loading, but there was no significant difference of settling amount in all groups. Loosening torque values were significantly decreased when comparing before and after loading in all groups($P$<.05). However, there was no significant difference in loss of loosening torque values when compared to groups. Conclusion: In internal conical connection type implants, dynamic load affected on settlement and loosening torque of implant, but there was no differences between abutments materials. Likewise gold UCLA abutment, metal UCLA abutment might be able to withstand functional load.

  • Recently, there is a tendency to design the large full ships with lower-powered engine as the means for energy saving in ship's navigation at seas. Such a lower-powered ship is anticipated to show the different propulsive performance in rough seas, because the fluctuation of main engine load of lower powered ship is relatively large as compared with higher-powered ship is relatively large as compared with higher-powered ship. The fluctuation of propeller load is nonlinear at racing condition in waves. It is due to the variation of inflow velocity into propeller, the propeller immersion and the characteristics of engine governor. In this paper, the theoretical calculation of the nominal speed loss and the numerical simulation for the nonlinear load fluctuation of a model ship in rough seas are carried out. From the results of calculation, the following are discussed. (1) The ratio of nominal speed loss to the speed in still water. (2) The manoeuvring ability of ship and the operational ability of main engine in a seaway. (3) A method of the evaluation for the fluctuation of propeller torque and revolution on the engine characteristics plane. (4) The effect of engine governor characteristics on the propeller load fluctuation.

  • Optimal efficiency control of synchronous reluctance motor(SynRM) is very important in the sense of energy saving and conservation of natural environment because the efficiency of the SynRM is generally lower than that of other types of AC motors. This paper is proposed a novel efficiency optimization control of SynRM considering iron loss using neural network(NN). The optimal current ratio between torque current and exciting current is analytically derived to drive SynRM at maximum efficiency. This paper is proposed an efficiency optimization control for the SynRM which minimizes the copper and iron losses. The design of the speed controller based on adaptive learning mechanism fuzzy-neural networks(ALM-FNN) controller that is implemented using fuzzy control and neural networks. The objective of the efficiency optimization control is to seek a combination of d and q-axis current components, which provides minimum losses at a certain operating point in steady state. The control performance of the proposed controller is evaluated by analysis for various operating conditions. Analysis results are presented to show the validity of the proposed algorithm.

  • This proposes an online loss minimization algorithm for series PI(SPI) based interior permanent magnet synchronous motor(IPMSM) drive to yield high efficiency and high dynamic performance over wide speed range. The loss minimization algorithm is developed based on the motor model. In order to minimize the controllable electrical losses of the motor and thereby maximize the operating efficiency, the d-axis armature current is controlled optimally according to the operating speed and load conditions. For vector control purpose, a SPI is used as a speed controller which enables the utilization of the reluctance torque to achieve high dynamic performance as well as to operate the motor over a wide speed range. Also, this paper proposes current control of model reference adaptive fuzzy controller(MFC), and estimation of speed using artificial neural network(ANN) controller. The proposed efficiency optimization control, SPI, MFC, ANN in this paper is applied to IPMSM drive system, the validity of this paper is proved by analyzing response characteristics in variety operating conditions.

  • In this paper, power flow characteristics of a hydromechanical transmission(HMT) are investigated using network analysis. The HMT used in this study consist of a hydrostatic unit(HSU), planetary gear sets, clutches and brakes providing forward 4 speeds and backward 2 speeds. Since the HMT power flows showing a closed loop and the HSU efficiency varies depending on the pressure and speed, a systematic approach is required to analyze the power transmission characteristics of the HMT. In order to analyze the closed loop power flow and the HSU power loss which changes depending on the pressure and speed, network model is constructed fur each speed range. In addition, an algorithm is proposed to calculate an accurate HSU loss corresponding to the experimental results. It is found from the network analysis that the torque and speed of each transmission element including the HSU can be obtained as well as direction of the power flow by the proposed algorithm. It is expected that the network analysis can be used in the design of relatively complicated transmission system such as HMT.

  • This paper deals with thermal characteristic analysis of induction motors for machine tool spindle for motion error prediction. Firstly, the inverse design of general induction motors for machine tool spindle has been performed by design principles. Characteristics considering VVVF inverter of induction motors were analyzed. Secondary, power loss and thermal characteristics of induction motors analyzed by equivalent thermal resistance model from Motor-CAD S/W. To develop a second-order fitted power-loss distribution model for the constant-torque operating range of the induction motor, we employed the design of experiment and response surface methodology techniques. Finally, the analysis results were experimentally verified, and the validity of the proposed analysis method was confirmed.

  • A 100 〔HP〕 rated synchronous motor with superconducting rotating field winding has been designed based on the formulated equations established from 2 dimensional magnetic field distributions in a cylindrical coordinate The cross-section was drawn based on calculated design results via Fortran program and then modeled with FEM (Finite Element Method) to investigate the machine performances. First of all, the magnetic field distributions are analysed in many ways according to the field directions and the armature currents. Especially after the rotating Held winding is arranged with BSCCO-2223 high-temperature superconducting(HTS) pancake coils, the exerted magnetic field normally on the HTS tape is calculated through FEM. And the machine output power is calculated according to the torque ang1es which lie between the field and the armature main flux lines. Moreover, this Paper includes the eddy-current loss variations of a copper damper located between the field and the armature coils and design considerations of the 100 HP HTS motor utilizing ferro-magnetic material.

  • This paper addresses the adaptive controller for efficiency optimization of induction motors. The paper describes an adaptive controller based on-line efficiency optimization control of a drive that uses a direct vector controlled induction motors. To improve the efficiency of the induction motors, it is important to find the optimal flux reference that minimize power loss. The proposed optimal flux reference is derived using a power loss function that is constructed with stator resistance losses, rotor resistance losses and core losses. The proposed sliding mode flux observer generates estimates the unmeasured rotor fluxes. An optimal efficiency controller has goal of maximizing the efficiency for a given speed and load torque. A simulation shows the effectiveness of the proposed technique.
