  • This paper proposes a topological locating algorithm to determine the location of the power quality event source. This algorithm makes use of the information on the topology of the monitored network and on the direction of PQ events. As a result, the bus incidence matrix is modified using monitor location and the direction matrix is constructed. With this information, the algorithm determines the suspected locations of the PQ events. To reduce suspicious areas, it utilizes event cause and related equipment. In case of line fault event, it calculates the distance from the monitor to the location of event source. The overall algorithm is applied to the IEEE test feeder and accurately identifies the event source location.

  • We describe a method to decompose a cube with trilinear interpolation into a collection of tetrahedra with linear interpolation, where the isosurface topology is preserved for all isovalues during decomposition. Visualization algorithms that require input scalar data to be defined on a tetrahedral grid can utilize our method to process 3D rectilinear data with topological correctness. As one of many possible examples, we apply the decomposition method to topologically accurate tetrahedral mesh extraction of an interval volume from trilinear volumetric imaging data. The topological correctness of the resulting mesh can be critical for accurate simulation and visualization.

  • As Geographic Information Systems represents three-dimensional topological Information, the systems provide accurate and delicate services for user. In order to execute three-dimensional topological operations, a dimensional transformation and heterogeneous spatial models should be used. However, the existing systems that use the dimensional transformation and the heterogeneous models, are not only difficult to operate the spatial operators, but also happened to support non- interoperability. Therefore, in order to support the spatial operation as well as interoperability between dimensions, we propose three-dimensional spatial operators for the proposed models. We defined the three-dimensional spatial operators prior to designing the proposed model. We also implemented the operators of proposed model and evaluated the implemented model on the component environment. Finally, the proposed model is able to not only support interoperability among systems but also execute spatial queries efficiently on three-dimensional spatial objects.

  • The demand for the use of 3D CAD data over the Internet environment has been increased. However, transmission of 3D CAD data has delayed the communication effectiveness because of the CAD data size. Lightweight CAD file design methodology is required for rapid transmission in the distributed environment. In this paper, to derive lightweight CAD files from commercial CAD systems, a file translation system producing a native file is constructed first by using the InterOp and API of the ACIS kernel. Using the B-rep model and mesh data extracted from the native file, the lightweight CAD file with topological information is constructed as a binary file. Since the lightweight CAD file retains topological information, it is applied to the dimensional verification, digital mock-ups and visualization of CAD files. Effectiveness of the proposed lightweight CAD file is confirmed through various case studies.

  • A feature is a local shape of a product directly related to the manufacturing process. The feature plays a role of the bridge connecting CAD and CAM. In the process planning for he CAM, information on manufacturing is required. To get the a manufacturing information from CAD dat, we need to recognize features. Once features are recognized, they are used as an input for the process planning. In this paper, we thoroughly investigate the composite features, which are generated by interacting simple features. The simple features in the composite feature usually have precedence relation in terms of process sequence. Based on the reason for the precedence relation, we classify the composite features for the process planning. In addition to the precedence relation, approach direction is used as an input for the process planning. In the process planning, the number of set-up orientations are minimized whole process sequence for the features are generated. We propose a process planning algorithm based on the topological sort and breadth-first search of graphs. The algorithn is verified using sample products.

  • Identifying prestigious interdisciplinary journals is very significant for researchers. By publishing research works in prestigious journals, researchers can better propagate their works and get spotlights. Even though the quality of a papers is not represented by the journal that published the paper, it is a general concern of researchers that how to identify a set of good journals to submit their papers. Nature and Science are the two journals that have been considering as the two top interdisciplinary journals worldwide. In this paper, we propose a method for identifying journals that have the potential to become the next Nature and Science through topological analysis of interdisciplinary scientific journals.

  • A part definition must not only provide shape information of a nominal part but also contain non-shape information such as tolerances, surface roughness and material specifications. Although machining features are useful for suitable shape information fur process reasoning in CAPP, they need to be integrated with tolerance information for effective process planning. We develop a tolerance modeler that efficiently integrates the machining features with the tolerance information fur feature-based CAPP. It is based on the association of machining features, tolerance features, and tolerances. The tolerance features in this study, where tolerances are assigned, are classified into two types; one type is a face that is a topological entity on a solid model and the other type is a functional geometry that is not referenced to topological entities. The (unctional geometry is represented by using machining features. All the data fur representing the tolerance information are stored completely and unambiguously in an independent tolerance data structure. The developed tolerance modeler is implemented as a module of a comprehensive feature-based CAPP system.

  • This paper deals with conversion from the STL file to the Slice to the Slice cross-sectional information for Stereolithography. The STL file is widely used for Stereolithography, but it is very difficult to convert STL file into Slice file directly. Because it consists of an ordered list of triangular net without any topological information other than the orientation of each facet. So, The system is accomplished by data flow through several intermediate stages such as Reference. SL1. .SL2L. .SL3. and .SLC file. The data processing is performed in 5 steps: 1) Create a Reference file including common information. 2) Modify STL file within the effective range of SL machine. 3) Calculate a point of intersection between plane equation and line equation. 4) Sort z values in ascending order using quick sort algorithm. 5) Search the adjacent points and formulate a closed loop usingsingly linked linear list. The system is developed by using Borland C++ 3.1 compiler in the environment of Pentium PC, and verified to be satisfactory by making some prototypes of electric household appliances.

  • This paper proposes a robust technique of image segmentation, which can be obtained if the topological persistence of each connected component is used as the feature vector for the graph-based image segmentation. The topological persistence of the components, which are obtained from the super-level set of the image, is computed from the morse function which is associated with the gray-level or color value of each pixel of the image. The procedure for the components to be born and be merged with the other components is presented in terms of zero-dimensional homology group. Extensive experiments are conducted with a variety of images to show the more correct image segmentation can be obtained by merging the components of small persistence into the adjacent components of large persistence.
