It is well known that the apposition of bone at implant surface would be influenced by the microstructure of titanium implants. The purpose of this study was to compare bone healing around the screw-shaped titanium implant with three different surface topographies in the canine mandibles by histological and biomechanical evaluation. All mandibular premolars of six mongrel dogs were extracted and implants were placed one month later. The pure titanium implants had different surface topographies: smooth and machined ($Steri-OSS^{(R)}$: Group II); sandblasted and acid-etched ($ITI^{(R)}$, SLA: Group III) surface. The fluorescent dyes were injected on the 2nd (calcein), 4th (oxytetracycline HCI) and 12th (alizarin red) weeks of healing. Dogs were sacrificed at 4 and 12 weeks after implantation. The decalcified and undecalcified specimens were prepared for histological and histo-metrical evaluation of implant-bone contact. Some specimens at 12 weeks after implantation were used for removal torque testing. Histologically, direct bone apposition to implant surface was found in all of the treated groups. More mature and dense bone was observed at the implant-bone interface at 12 weeks than that at 4 weeks after implantation. Under the fluorescent microscope, thick regular green fluorescent lines which mean early bone apposition were observed at the implant-bone interface in Group III, while yellow and red fluorescent areas were found at the implant-bone interface in Group I and II. The average implant-bone contact ratios at 4 weeks of healing were 54.3% in Group I, 57.7% in Group II and 66.2% in Group III. In Group I, implant-bone contact ratio was significantly lower than Group II and III(p<0.05). The average implant-to-bone contact ratios at 12 weeks after implantation were 64.3% in Group I, 66.7% in Group II and 71.2% in Group III. There was no significant difference among the three groups. In Group I and II, the implant-bone contact ratio at 12 weeks increased significantly in comparison to ratio at 4 weeks(p<0.05). The removal torque values at 12 weeks after implantation were 90.9 Ncm in Group I, 81.6 Ncm in Group II and 77.1 Ncm in Group III, which were significantly different(p<0.05). These results suggest that bone healing begin earlier and be better around the surface-treated implants compared to the smooth surface implants. The sandblasted and acid-etched implants showed the most favorable bone response among the three groups during the early healing stage and could reduce the waiting period prior to implant loading.

The feasibility of generating controller surface topographies in single-point conventional turning operations is investigated. First, a mathematical model of the surface generation process was developed. Second, in order to control the texture of the machined surface, a micro-positioning stage and the associated command generation software were designed and built. Experimental examples have shown that surface texture can be precisely controlled and is in good agrement with the theoretical predictions.

Electroless Ni and Cu platings were conducted on $B_4C$ and SiC. In the electroless Ni plating, the deposition rate on $B_4C$ was higher than on SiC. However, the electroless Cu deposition occured with high deposition rate regardless of the carbide substrates used in this study. Uniformity of the deposits was better in the electroless Cu deposition than in the electroless Ni deposition. In the topographies of the electroless depositions, Ni deposits have grown as colony, whereas Cu deposits have grown as fine individual grains.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM. A few of studies which compared and continuously measured the stability of various surface treated implants in the same individual had been performed. PURPOSE. We aim to find the clinical significance of surface treatments by observing the differences in the stabilization stages of implant stability. MATERIAL AND METHODS. Eight different surface topographies of dental implants were especially designed for the present study. Machined surface implants were used as a control group. 4 nano-treated surface implants(20 nm $TiO_2$ coating surface, heat-treated 80 nm $TiO_2$ coating surface, CaP coating surface, heat treated CaP coating surface) and 3 micro-treated surface implants [resorbable blast media(RBM) surface, sandblast and acid-etched(SAE) surface, anodized RBM surface] were used as experiment groups. All 24 implants were placed in 3 adult dogs. $Periotest^{(R)}$ & ISQ values measured for 8 weeks and all animals were sacrificed at 8 weeks after surgery. Then the histological analyses were done. RESULTS. In PTV, all implants were stabilized except 1 failed implants. In ISQ values, The lowest stability was observed at different times for each individual. The ISQ values were showed increased tendency after 5 weeks in every groups. After 4 to 5 weeks, the values were stabilized. There was no statistical correlation between the ISQ values and PTV. In the histological findings, the bone formation was observed to be adequate in general and no differences among the 8 surface treated implants. CONCLUSIONS. In this study, the difference in the stability of the implants was determined not by the differences in the surface treatment but by the individual specificity.
The Haeundae beach and coast suffered synthetical dramatic changes especially in the nearshore topography by the beach nourishment project (i.e., 2013-2015). A previous study showed the rip current characteristics were changed according to the topographical change in terms of their magnitudes and likelihoods through numerical simulations using the FUNWAVE model. The magnitude and likelihood of rip currents decreased because the surfzone width decreased just after the beach nourishment. In this study, however, numerical simulations of the Haeundae rip currents were performed by using the 2017- and 2020-surveyed topographies changed for several years after the beach nourishment. From the simulation results using the topographies surveyed before and after the beach nourishment, it was found that the magnitude and likelihood of rip currents increased due to its increasing surfzone width in 2017 and 2020 and they might be increasing larger than those before the beach nourishment.

The transcription characteristics in the molding of aspheric glass lenses for camera phone modules have been investigated experimentally. The surface topographies of both the form and the roughness were compared between the mold and the molded lens. The molded lens showed a transcription ratio of 93.4%, which is obtained by comparing the form accuracy (PV) values of the mold and the molded lens. The transcription of the roughness topography was ascertained by bearing ratio analysis.
For the development of preferable immunosensor and protein chip, the viologen Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) multilayer was fabricated on the surface, and then protein A was adsorbed on the proposed viologen LB film by electrostatic attractive force. The Immunoglobulin G (IgG) labeled with fluorescence marker was self-assembled on the fabricated protein A film. The topographies of the deposited films were investigated by using atomic force microscope (AFM). The immobilization of IgG was verified by fluorescence spectrum. Such structures can be used as sublayers for various kinds of IgG immobilization toward immunosensors and protein chip.
The digital map expresses natural topographies and artificial things with 3D position coordinates in the computer such as the road, railway, building, river, mountain, paddy and dryland. Therefore, the digital map is regarded as an important factor in the information-oriented society. However, it is difficult to maintain the most recent topographic information all the times because of restricted budget and time. For that, the efficient method corresponded with the digital map should be presented. This study aims to suggest the way to make an estimate of updating cost for 1:5,000 scale digital map by using remotely sensed data. To predict updating area of the digital map, the screen digitizing method was applied to the overlapped images and digital maps.
